Any news on McDowell?

This is a strange situation. Some rumblings he may come to Michigan.

Neither UM nor MSU.  That said my view is its somewhat unfortunate this wasn't all hashed out before.  But sometimes new information comes about which overrides the conventionally established wisdoms.

I'm sort of following from afar.  It would be superb to have a kid with his talent on the Team.  I read the comments about his loyalties being elsewhere but I can think of no other scenario with lower downside than that.  Playing by simply going thru the motions/sulking/call it what you like, is a surefire recipe to ride the pine or worse.  So I don't see that as really being an option.

You come to Michigan, we're going to make you work for it, classroom and field.  But, its for your own good.

I obviously have no idea how this will turn out, would love to have him at Michigan, but more than anything do NOT want to see a "compromise" where he ends up at Ohio.

Absolutely. His future rides on the assumption he wants to pay in the NFL. No player is going to go to their 2nd (I assume) choice and actively work against the program. If he ends up here, it's a kid we REALLY need who likes UM. I think it's clear he wants or wanted msu but he liked UM a lot. In fact, many (myself included) felt we were risking losing him due to pretty much putting almost all our eggs in the Hand basket and then did even before Hand chose Bama. However, he liked UM. I think a better season (just by look, not even record) without msu also winning their first RB since I was 7 lands us both of them. There was just that perfect storm of our team taking a huge step back offensively, looking the worst defensively since Mattison arrived, and msu having a major bounce back from the previous trash season. I have to admit that their D last year was maybe the best in the country, a huge step up from the mediocre year before. Then, most shocking was the offense under an OC that was deemed a joke hire after firing the guy that led an inept offense possibly worse than ours last year, considering Bell was all they had, he had his wrist year due to NO PASSING GAME dispite an OL that gave their QB more time than Gardner ever got last year lol. Maybe not in the stats but the msu offense was atrocious, defense average. Last year's msu 180, our play and our assurance from everyone that we had Hand locked up lost us MM (imo). Our play lost us Hand (imo). Double whammy perfect storm. YOU HAPPILY ACCEPT MM if he decides to come! We need him.....badly.

Based on everything Sam Webb said and what Lawrence Marshall said, I really do think this was a tough, close call for Malik. If he somehow still ends up at UM, I have no doubt his teammates will help him feel welcome and he will give his team his all. I will never have the pleasure of having a 5* football or basketball player son, so I have no idea what this has been like for Malik and his family. I only hope their relationships survive this whole situation and that Malik has a good collegiate athletic experience.

I know his Mom doesn't want him at State. Long ago he was big on Michigan, so if he wants to stay close to his parents I think his choice would be Michigan. Though is he really wants to attend State he will probably go without the blessing of his parents. But if he's very close to his parents, like I think he is, then Michigan is still in the game. I think he would be a great addition to the team, so I hope he goes Blue!

Sam Webb was talking about him today again on the recruiting roundup. Man oh man, this is getting interesting. By the sounds of what Sam was saying, he made inevitably wind up at Michigan. Sam knows things, and maybe leaning towards Michigan for Mr McDowell.
