Ok - I've watched videos on Mgoblue, searched and googled. Does anybody have any info, rumor or fact, that I haven't heard about Devin? I am not dreading watching Shane play, and I still think we can win this game with him under center. I do think this team is much better with him playing, and it looks to me like he's not even practicing in pads this week. I did hear Hoke say earlier this week that if Devin didn't practice by Wednesday that he wouldn't get any PT in the bowl game. Did he practice yesterday? The only pics I saw of him yesterday were of him without pads, so I have no idea. This mgocommunity is really good at ferreting out info from under the shroud of Fort Hoke, so I was hoping for some new info. Happy Holidays to everyone, and I hope you all had good times with family. Go Blue, and beat Kansas State!!!
Any new info on Gardner???
From what I read, he did not practice and will not start Saturday.
Well, I heard he got his redshirt granted
Who? Shane Morris? I thought his redshirt was gone, given he played in two games this year and has no medical issue to receive one like Gardner did for 2010. If Morris was granted a redshirt, I'd like to see where that's documented.
He wasn't even talking about Morris.
The title of this thread is "Any new info on Gardner???" and it was assumed the comment was about Morris, lol
It was simply a joke in reference to all of the questions about DG before he was granted his redshirt. Stefon Diggs, Demar Dorsey level jokes.
I think he was being sarcastic my friend! lol
Hoke just said at his presser that Shane will start the bowl game. I don't have enough points to start a new thread but there will be one soon enough.
And there we go.
Maybe if you add a few more question marks on to the title someone will be motivated to find out?
Per Angelique yesterday, Shane was running practice Wednesday. So we can conclude he will start Saturday. It's not clear to me that Devin is anywhere close to being ready to play, but if he is I suppose he can be an emergency backup.
If Shane tears it up on Saturday, who starts next year? Could Devin possibly move back to WR? I really think that might be a better move for him given that he will probably play WR in the NFL. Having Funchess and Gardner on the outside could be really deadly for our offense.
I suspect the coaches will give him a chance to compete for the starting position next year regardless, but if he plays well it certainly won't hurt. That said, Gardner is probably still the best option going forward if that line is a mess, just because of his ability to elude would-be chest destroyers.
I agree ... given the tendency of Hoke to generally favor seniors, then Gardner is the QB next year. That's even if Morris plays a good bowl game. There'll be a competition for the spot next year, but unless something really unexpected happens it'll be Gardner, with Morris as a very good backup.
Really? You think he will play WR in the NFL? Athletic QBs are the new trend in the NFL and he has all the physical tools to play the position. He needs to get better at reads and decisions but he will almost definitely be drafted as a QB. When he actually had protection he was pretty good, it was when the OL sucked that he struggled but even Tom Brady sucks when he is getting hit and pressured a lot.
it's pretty early man.
Do you honestly think DG is not going to be our QB next year? No matter what Shane does, and I mean that, DG is our QB. He's borderline brilliant at times. He'll have an entire offseason to get better. He's essentially a sophomore qb at this point. Give the guy a bit of a break, let him learn more this off season, and I think he's gonna be a stud next year.
There is news, but it never gets posted til someone asks for it. So any minute now.
It's a bit of a telling tale when our starting QB is likely out for the bowl game, and it requires a forum post to tease out any information about it. It's about as anticlimactic as turtle sex.
Eh, maybe it's the food coma talking. Or maybe I'm just depressed about Bullough getting suspended. Poor lil' Sparty.
Shane Morris will start bww bowl
come on man that news is SOOO 6 minutes ago.
I really like this blog and will always post here, but I have to say the amount of snarky responses I always get is a little over the top. Yes, I know that I used too many question marks. Yes, I know that there is probably not any information that I haven't already read ten times. The breadth and length of the people who post here is really impressive, though. You never know what someone might have found out that might see this post. At worst, it's something to blog about on a day I have to work with family from out of town back at home... I get that every time I create a thread there will be people heaping negativity, but for some reason it always surprises me. I guess that's what I get for not having any real info to share.
Comes from you saying that Gardner should be moved to WR? Based on what... the fact that he's athletic. The kid was a borderline 5 star QB out of high school, has shown flashes of brilliance at QB, and seems to clearly be the best option going forward. He misses one game and now we're ready to move him back to WR for his SR year (and yes SR means something for QBs)... ummm no
Or Giants fans would be calling for the owner's head for wasting a draft pick, Coughlin's head for suddenly becoming a bad coach, and demanding that Eli be moved to snapper. Fortunately he had enough relatively good seasons that his record-setting number of interceptions this year wasn't laid solely on his head (or arm). Seems they had some [many] difficulties with the O-line (including starting center & Mich. Alum David Bass being injured and eventually going on IR). And good thing Eli has that track record, or the fact that he and his brother (who's had a couple good seasons too, I've heard) praised Devin so highly at their camp this summer, the urelenting skeptics would have said "Yeah? So what does that interception-throwing Giants QB know about QB-ing?"
I haven't yet read the new thread about Devin's playing with a broken foot in the OSU game, so though it isn't news now, I'll insert this quote from CBSsports.com's story:
As for Gardner's foot injury, the fact he suffered the injury during Michigan's second drive of the third quarter means that Gardner led the Wolverines on three touchdown drives in the fourth quarter with a broken foot. In other words, Devin Gardner is tougher than you and I.
It doesn't help that what you posted above is wrong. Where do you get the idea that his NFL position is WR? Because Denard was drafted as a RB/WR? They are completely different types of players. Denard was recruited as a QB by exactly 1 school while Gardener was one of the top ranked dual threat QBs to most recruiting services. He's a QB and only played WR because the team lacked large fast WRs (which he could be) and there was an entrenched starter in front of him.
Weren't there some videos of the team leading up to the bowl game last year? Did they not do the same sort of thing again this year?
So yet again we have proof that Hoike doesn't "bluff" despite the enormous number of posters who claimed his statement earlier in the week about Morris starting was just a ruse. It just amazes me how, despite the fact that time after time what Hoke says in pressers is proven to be exactly what he thinks/means we try and read into his words to come up with some sort of secret meaning that simpy isnt there.
You mean that when a player gets hurt he really thinks they have a booboo?
That made me laugh!
People are always trying to read more into what comes out of the Fort than what is said, and have been for any number of years since I can remember being a freshmen in 1976. They confuse non-full disclosure (i.e. They are not going to give us intimate details of all the goings on) with there somehow being a wall of secrecy to be breached. Instead, Hoke is who he is, says what he thinks, does not air his dirty laundry in public, and people try to analyze it like he is one of the old Soviet Union politburo members.
Like you, it is time to accept Hoke at his word, and judge him by both his words and deeds. There is no super secret agenda or special insight to be gained by parsing his every statement. Reality is that the team is 7-5, was very inconsistent over the year on offense and on defense, appears to be short of experienced talent and depth, and hopefully those issues are being addressed and fixed by the current staff. 2014 will be another year to see if the team improves and we have an upward trajectory or if we are doomed to B1G football purgatory for another 2-??? years. All we can do is wait and watch and hope!
I just hope nobody cancels their season tickets. . .
I get that there is a 99% he is our starting QB next year, but Hoke has put Devin at WR already. It's not like some crazy dream that I made up. The dude is 6'4", fast, and can jump out of the gym. If Shane passes for 300 yards and 4 TD's on Saturday, I bet it's at least a discussion. Maybe a short one, but it will cross their minds. Moving on to where you think Devin projects as a pro, you are correct that there is no fact one way or the other about where they will play him. You're right that athletic QB's are now rampant in the NFL and there are several successful ones. Most of them that survive in the NFL were far more polished in their read progression in College. In my opinoin, Devin does not read the field very well, and I think he predetermines where he's going pre-snap. You get killed in the NFL playing like that. He's got another whole offseason and all of next year to improve, but I think that's a hard skill to learn. Most guys either have it or not.
Not to sound like too much of a smart ass but did his desperation throws to Gallon give you the hint he Occasionally predetermines his passes. To me that is either A. Bad coaching; to allow the behavior to continue. Or B. Real uncertainty in your O-line. Which after 40 sacks or so I also cannot blame DG for.
To me his reads and progressions are all built into the plays. Since he is locking onto one guy that shows me he is not getting the reps in practice, at least not reps that take him entirely through his progressions.
Borges won't throw screens to WRs, but he will force plays that essentially ask DG to climb the most simple of ladders. IMO that is bad play calling, but I know we have already beat that horse to death.
If Devin plays in the pros, it will be as a QB. Put him on PHI or even the Vikes and he would be pretty solid. He is simply too good . . .
