Any Lewan repercussions?

Submitted by StephenRKass on

So, in a post about Taylor Lewan a couple of days ago, (http://mgoblog.com/mgoboard/what-did-taylor-lewan-do?page=1), the basic answer given was that either he was trying to step OVER an Indiana player, or he was trying to step ON an Indiana player. Did the officials and RR & Fry ever sort this out? Is there any kind of punishment or suspension or further repercussions coming to Lewan because of this incident/non-incident?

Either you are being sarcastic, and think nothing will happen because the coaches won't do anything . . .

or you think that Lewan was out of control and that between RR & the refs, he will be suspended a game or two or dealt with in some other significant fashion.

So which is it? Sarcasm or stiff repercussions?

And there was a ton of repercussions for Curtis Terry repeatedly kicking Tebow in the head while he was on the ground, google it.  The last fan I want to hear about this subject from is an Ohio State fan, Robert Reynolds almost crushed Sorgi's windpipe for christ's sake.  Good old Sweatervest, pinnacle of morals, suspended Reynolds for ONE GAME following what could have been charged as a criminal act.

I'm not sure if there will be any furthur punishment, but I think I found the cause of the antimosity. On the final drive when Denard runs out of bounds Lewan is manhandling #44 over to the sidelines. The player( #44) then grabs Lewans Jersey and pulls/slams Lewan into the ground out of bounds. I guess everyone was watching Denard and didn't notice but after that Lewan was apparently looking for payback.

Yes he was, but so was Indiana's tackle.  I generally don't have a problem with the refs as long as they are calling or in not calling it consistantly.  I thought there was a huge obvious hold on the left tackle on Indiana's first run play.

I think of refs as umpires with a strike zone.  As long they are calling it /allowing it for both teams no complaints.  Seems like the refs decided to call a loose game.  I'm giving a stern look to the ND refs at this point.  I think a holding on Martin in the backfield was the only holding call in the game.

But we shouldnt be surprised if Lewan gets hit with a few versus MSU, if he's not suspended.

If refs call a game consistently tight in terms of holding, is it to our advantage or disadvantage? I know that Brian was livid about the non-calls with holding vs. ND. Now, if Lewan is getting non-calls, that is to our advantage. Given teams holding against Mike Martin and Roh, is it better if those holds are called (and likewise, holds against Lewan,) or is it better for us that both teams are allowed to hold? I'm thinking that it might be to our advantage for a game to be called tightly, because DRob doesn't need huge holes to get free and gain big chunks of yardage.

That Denard run for the 1st down, Lewan was stripping the jersey off of him. We were really lucky to not get that call and kill the drive.  Then the next play after riding him out of bounds, the guy not only throws Lewan to the ground (how does that even happen?), but right into Denard's legs.  I think that was the root. But of course, with that fine ESPNU camerawork, we never got to see the actually incident.

I think the play before that, Lewan was blocking #44 and ended up tangled up with him. As Lewan tried to rush back to the line because the clock was running, #44 grabbed his shoe and wouldn't let go for a while as Lewan tried to get a ref's attention. That probably peeved him a bit.

If he was holding as much as it seemed against Indiana, I'm actually a little worried about that match up.  Lewan may have tons of potential, but he's not quite there yet.  I do recall Jake Long admitting to holding plenty though, but saying he was good at hiding it.  If that's the case, Lewan may just need to make it a bit less blatant.

He'll get a butt chewing from Rich at the moment, but the team (and Rich) knows that this kid will fight for the team.

He'll learn the right and wrong time to pull this stuff over time as he is still a RS Freshman in his 2nd start.

In  the press conference RichRod said it was "no big deal."  I saw Lewan get shoved while he was standing out of bounds after a Denard run and I screamed at my TV for a flag.  It did not work. It seems after this the chippiness began.

If I was Lewan bait for an entire game I might try to get even in other ways, too, although not so blatantly dirty.  Also, if Indiana's students are cheering Denard getting hurt than it only gets worse from here on out in every way.
