Any info on the Recruiting Weekend?

Submitted by DrWolverine23 on
Sorry if this is premature, but with no bowl game to look to, recruiting has become my obsession. From the scout mainpage, apparently we have come to the top for Hankins the DT from Southeastern. Did we make any inroads with any other recruits? TomVH? Anybody?

I heard that everyone became really close over the weekend and 5 of the guys came to RR and wanted to commit on the spot. RR said uh.....let me get back to you in a second and ran out the back of Schembechler Hall saying "I hate the Fucking Big Ten and their idiotic rules". Rosenberg was in the dumpster at the time. If you go to the Freep they got the story up. "RR is a cheater and hates the Big Ten because they have morals and he is a corrupt redneck bumpkin" Yeah I know I couldn't believe how long the headline was either.

His committment would give us some depth, and he obviously is not the typical three star, since Florida offered him as well. Meanwhile, if we could get Sean Parker that would be HUGE.

since you brought it up... we had another not so typical 3-star with a florida offer on campus this weekend - that's right, jeremy jackson. its incredible how unexcited people are about him already!! edit - oh wait, i forgot, there was another not so typical 3-star with a florida offer - ricardo miller!

the star scheme sucks, on both sites. if you want to know who's got a chance to be good, save your money and see who's offered them. the recruiting coordinators at the respective schools do a much better job than rivals/scout. for instance...there are some lower rated players with awesome offers, such as those listed above. and there are some other highly rated players, like jerald robinson, with no offers besides ours.

I don't remember where the specific article is anymore - I think it was in a Tuesday/Wed Recruitin' and possibly is linked on the MGoRecruitingBoard - but I know he has been offered by several BCS schools. Sites like Rivals and Scouts don't update the offer lists of recruits very often, especially guys like Robinson who committed so early on. Another thing - those offer lists are usually put up at the request of the recruit, or at least partially. For someone like Jerald who's been as blue as you can get, why would he bother sending Rivals/Scouts an updated offer list? He's incredibly steadfast in his commitment and will be on campus within 30 days.

I'd take what is listed with a grain of salt. Guys like Brian, TOB, Obes, TomVH, Magnus, etc. could probably also tell you that the offer lists are not necessarily 100% reflective. I'd call them (the lists) good guides, but not stone. Edit: In my first post I shouldn't have said that offer lists are not updated "very often" - more like they aren't always updated the second a new team offers. I've seen some guys offer lists lay dormant for a while, and then someone like Hankins have his list updated almost immediately after his Michigan offer.

There sure are a lot of accounts created in the last two weeks that write the same things in the same style. It must be a coincidence that so many "obsessed" posters have joined the last two weeks while everyone who isn't a hardcore UM fan is jumping off the bandwagon.

They were all at the basketball game, but left at halftime. I tried to start a "Come to Mi-chi-gan" chant, but it didn't gain traction. Obviously, the basketball team didn't do much to impress them, but we did have a good student turnout, so hopefully they were impressed by that.

At the game against Houston Baptist, before the OSU game, they also left at half. I think the coaches only bring them to the game for a half, or at least, that's what I concluded then. So, either before that game, they were unimpressed as well, or it's just how long the coaches plan on them being at the game.

When there's news, it will be posted here. TomVH/Brian/Tim/Other Brian will post stuff when they know it. There doesn't need to be a thread asking, "Hey did anyone hear anything?" Do you really expect 5 people to be like, "Oh yeah, Hankins committed, he told me. I forgot to let anyone know." Please just show some patience.

he did say that florida is still #1 in the rivals interview, but he was very, very positive. i think that we're going to get him.

S Sean Parker said his trip to Michigan was good, no commitment. Michigan was already high on his list, so nothing changed. http://twitter.com/TomVH also via TomVH's twitter: No feeling like walking through the grocery store with only toilet paper as your purchase That last part was less relevent to this thread. Sorry.

dang...i was really hoping he'd commit over the weekend...i thought we had the best shot at him over he/knight/anderson. still though, even if we don't land one of those three, we've still got 3/4 safties committed (depending on where conelius ends up)

You know it's all a test right? We just ask you to see if you'll actually do it, it's like a crazy ritualistic PROVE YOUR LOVE TO US exercise. We know it makes you uncomfortable and possibly squeamish.
