Any Hints About Wisconsin Game Time?
Background: I am returning home from Texas for a family reunion that my parents are throwing Saturday, October 1st. I am hoping to package the whole thing up with a trip to the Big House for the first time in 6 years to see Michigan beat Wisconsin, but I am hesitant to pull the trigger on a ticket if it is going to severely interfere with the party. A noon game time would be perfect. A 3pm game time would still be manageable. A night game would be a non-starter.
I know a lot of people here have their ear much more firmly to the ground on these kinds of things than I do. Is there any hint at all for when this game will be starting? If not, does anyone know when this announcement will be made? It's kinda a pain to have to keep checking daily to see if I can at least know when to pull the trigger.
Any help would be appreciated.
It will definitely not be a night game. It has been announced officially no home night games this season.
I would guess 3:30 instead of noon since its a "premium" matchup but in all likelyhood it will not be announced until 2 weeks before.
Plan on it being 3:30, hope that it's noon for your sake.
Not sure where you are traveling to from the Big House or what time the party starts, but keep in mind traffic is going to be atrocious in several areas. My mom lives in the Eaton Rapids area and when I come up to Michigan for 3:30 games it takes forever to travel the sixty miles back to her place. I usually just eat somewhere around the stadium until traffic starts moving again.
It will be sometime between the hours of Noon and 8pm
My post would be more along the lines of, "I'm coming back to town fro the Wisconsin game. Does anybody know what time my family reunion is going to start?"
You're stuck in Ohio, while the OP is returning home from Texas from a family reunion that his parents are throwing Saturday, October 1st. "Well, Prince, so Genoa and Lucca are now just family estates of the Buonapartes. But I warn you, if you don't tell me that this means war, if you still try to defend the infamies and horrors perpetrated by that Antichrist—I really believe he is Antichrist—I will have nothing more to do with you and you are no longer my friend, no longer my 'faithful slave,' as you call yourself! But how do you do? I see I have frightened you—sit down and tell me all the news."

I'm both proud and embarassed of myself that I was able to identify your quoted reference from only the first half of the first line - and I read that book almost 20 years ago. Good to see classic literature and college football hand-in-hand in an internet blog... I guess.
Not a night game unfortuantely, but I'd be shocked if it were a noon start. Can't remember the last time Michigan played another top half Big Ten team at noon besides OSU.
successfully trained my family never to schedule anything on a home game Saturday.
Nice work.
Next challenge: successfully train family never to schedule anything on a game Saturday.
Six months ago, you would have been out of luck. But now that it's no longer a night game, I would expect 3:30.
So you should be able to make it to that party while the lights on top of the big house continue to collect dust.
Love thinly veiled shot
but we know it won't be a night game and I can't imagine Michigan-Wisconsin being a nooner. It'll be intriguing nationally just because we haven't played them in years. I'd bet it's going to be a 3:30
It has already been formally declared that there are no night games. So it won't be then.
The game is a match up of two teams that are expected to be in the running for their Division championship. They are aslo two "brand-name" teams that have not played each other in forever.
That is not the stuff of a Pam Ward noon game.
So, bottom line: Expect a 3:30 start unless one of the two teams absolutely tanks in September.
Thanks Bo's Ghost.
What do ya think of the job Jimmy is doing?
I can tell you one thing, a Michigan man is going to coach Michigan.
Just the kinda analysis I was looking for. Thanks!
but we aren't telling... sorry
That week is a dumpster fire competitively in the league. Even if Wisconsin comes in with two losses (which is likely since they play LSU @ Lambeau and @ MSU before they play us), the next best game is Northwestern @ Iowa, and that's already scheduled for noon. In fact, it looks like the only other game that doesn't already have a time, according to ESPN, is Minnesota @ PSU. There's virtually no chance that ABC chooses that game for the 3:30 slot.

Looking at Wisconsin's Big Ten schedule, man, they're really getting paid back for all those old schedules in the late 1990s/early 2000s where they'd win the league while missing either OSU or Michigan.
Their first six league games... @MSU, @UM, bye, OSU, @ Iowa, Nebraska, @Northwestern. That's five 10+ win teams from last year plus Nebraska, with the two easiest games coming at the tail end.
12 days before the game, around noon. So Monday, September 19.
I got $20 on 3:30
Thread Jack- Any news where Derrick Green is headed? Not that I care that much, but I can't find anything which seems weird.
He got 'em.
Nobody and I mean nobody does CSI forensic analysis on an upcoming TV start time slate more thoroughly and methodically than the fine folks at MGoBlog.
Good looking out fam*

Are there any night games this year?

I can guarantee that it will be 3:30.
It's a 7pm house party in Plymouth-type thing. So it'd be tight, but no one is going to be too disappointed if I'm a few minutes late.
Then you're in business. Caveat: you have to be prepared to leave before the game is decided if it is close and/or goes to OT. But if you can afford to trickle in by 7:30 without offending or missing anything important, you can do it if you plan ahead.
First, consider how you will travel from the game to your destination. Get opinions (probably available in this thread) about traffic on various roadways. Determine where you will park beforehand to give you the best possible exit. If I am in a hurry to leave I try to park a medium distance away, accounting both for heavier traffic in the immediate vicinity and less time walking, skipping a major intersection or two to speed things up. Consider avoiding left turns in traffic, which can add crucial minutes to your time, that sort of thing.
Give yourself a drop-dead departure time of 6:30 or 6:45. Like I said, you may miss something important, though hopefully Michigan will be in control. If for some reason the game is ending right around then, be ready to get out ahead of the crowd. Like, watch the last play or two from the tunnel entrance.
This sounds like a lot of planning and a lot of rushing around, and it will be. But accounting for that now will allow you the freedom to enjoy both events to the fullest without worry, except for that time period where you are transiting between the game and the reunion.
Years from now you will remember the freshness of the marching band, the roar of the crowd, the team rushing under the banner, the winged helmets, and the athleticism of the defense. And you'll remember the sweetness of catching up with family members, seeing people together you haven't seen in years.
You won't remember the tiring, quick walk to your car, the complex roads you took to dodge postgame traffic, or the extra few dollars you spent to ensure that you parked in such a way that you could leave before everybody else. But you'll be glad that you did all of those things.
