Any Details Regarding Recruitment of Daren Kitchen

Submitted by Dreisbach1817 on

Tom,

Is there any update on our recruitment of Kitchen?  I thought he was coming for a visit UConn weekend but I guess that didn't work out last minute.  Previous comments had him very high on Michigan.  Has that changed?  In addition, with our 2 CBs already in the class, plus guys like Crawford showing stronger interest, I'm curious as to whether Michigan's interest has cooled at all.  Of course, it's not like we couldn't use the depth at CB.  But I haven't heard anything about him since UConn. Interested to hear if you have any word.

Thanks.

I highly doubt you'll get Tom's attention with that title.  Regardless, Kitchen is prolly Plan B.  Combo of Walls and Crawford should be good enough to address secondary needs.  Clinton-Dix and Karlos Williams would be bonuses.

But it seems, Michigan is slow playing him a bit.  I think the coaches feel pretty good about Crawford and Walls.  With that said, it seems every week Michigan gets another available scholarship for the 2011 class with all the transfers.

I think if Michigan puts a firm offer on the table this kid will jump at it.    Still plenty of time and a bunch more games to win.

Yeah, from previous posts it sounded like Kitchen was very ready to commit but the coaching staff has held him off.   Not sure if he'd still jump if the offer came through as it looks like he's got a couple of other offers from BCS programs.

He was basically set to commit twice now, and was also planning on coming to the U Conn game for an official visit. The coaches have pushed both back. Take from that what you will.

Daren seemed to think that a written offer was in the mail a couple weeks ago right? I think we're delivering it via a 4 year old on a hot wheels.

But yeah, he's a plan B. If Crawford, etc fall through then he'll get the offer I'm guessing. Unless he gets fed up waiting for us to ask him out and decides to go to Nebraska.

What's with all these guys we're recruiting with the low star ratings? I know it doesn't mean everything, but compared to other big name schools (OSU,LSU,FLA,OKL,TX,etc) we are way behind the eight ball. Is anyone else worried we aren't bringing in the talent we were consistently bringing in in previous years...?

Someone please explain it to me then? Seriously. I'm just saying compare those teams verbal commits at this point with ours... I'm sure it will change quite a bit come signing day, but if someone could explain? I mean, a lot of the guys we really want, none of the other power schools have even offered...Granted schemes are different and whatnot, but.... I'm sick of bring up a point that may rub some people the wrong way and getting negged. What gives?

I've said this before and this is by no means an excuse, more of an explanation into some things.

With regards to recruits choosing other big time programs, or just other schools in general, you have to understand their view point. When Michigan won the National Championship in 1997, the kids in the 2011 class were (assuming most of them are 17 now) three years old. If that doesn't resonate, in 2006 when we went into the OSU game undefeated, they were twelve years old. The Michigan that you know and remember is not the same that they have seen.

Now put that mentality in with the fact that Michigan has had 2 losing seasons, and a negatively publicized head coaching change. Michigan is fighting an up hill battle with recruiting, and in my mind have done a pretty good job so far.
