Antonio Kinard article

Submitted by amphibious1 on

There is an article about Antonio Kinard kind of wanting to red-shirt and bulk up. But, what I liked most about the article was some insight he gave about Sparty trying to recruit him...

“Michigan State was on it to the fullest,” Kinard said. “They would not give up. They would call me on my cell phone and be like, ‘Hey, are you going to come down here to visit? It’s only like a half-hour more away, 50-something miles away from Michigan.’ And it was just like, ‘Give it up. I’m not going to y’all’s school.’

“They would keep nagging. They would send letters to the school, to my house. It would get nuts to the point where I was like, ‘Please, just give up. I’m a Wolverine.’”

Nice....

Sounds like a great kid with a good head on his shoulders. He would be a beast at 6'4" and 230 lbs. It sucks he had to find out about getting a new position coach from a reporter though.

Sounds like a good dude to have as part of the class.

On a side note, I wonder if there's a significant correlation between a recruit's star rankings and the emo level of his highlight hype-track. Might be some fertile ground for a future diary...

to have a recruit who WANTS to come to the University of Michigan, as opposed to recruits who will come here only if their asses have been kissed in the right manner who otherwise don't give a flying fuck where they play for three years.

Noteworthy tidbit:

Kinard committed to Michigan at the Wolverines’ junior recruiting day last spring, and never seriously entertained offers from Penn State, Illinois, Michigan State and others.

This is the first published report Kinard had ANY other scholarship offers, let alone a Penn State linebacker offer.

Antonio's coach, Jeff Whittaker, who is quoted in the article, is on of the funniest dudes you'll ever meet...AND one of the most entertaining people to share adult beverages with.

Any new word on Kinard qualifying? He's the other player (besides Drake and Witty) that there were concerns with him qualifying right?
Agree will all the other posters, seems to have a great attitude. I hope we're able to redshirt him and get 4 good years on the field out of him.
