Another National CBB analyst picks Michigan to win title

Submitted by Butterfield on

Not the first to do so, probably not the last, but this one is interesting because it comes from a man who has experienced a rollover in Maurice Taylor's SUV (and also played basketball at Staeee), Mateen Cleaves:

“It’s hard not to pick Michigan right now, with what they’re doing,” Cleaves said of the unbeaten and No. 2-ranked Wolverines. “For me to say Michigan, you know it’s got to be real, because I’m a Michigan State guy through and through. But you’ve got to give credit where credit is due.

“Michigan is a great team. Fun to watch, very well-coached and led by Trey Burke. He makes it easy for those guys. They have four guys who can get shots any time they want to. (Tim) Hardaway can get a shot any time he wants. (Nik) Stauskas has been a big surprise to everybody.”

Thanks for posting the quote. Otherwise I would not have clicked that link. Fuck the Free Press.

Also, before the season and even a couple weeks ago I said we would split the series with Ohio (lose in Cbus and win in AA), but now I think we're going to win both games. I also think we're going to sweep Sparty. Hopefully Horford can see limited playing time tonight to see how his knee is and I'm praying he will be 100% for Sunday.

Ya crack me up...Mateen Cleaves...just 4 posts above the "Shady Recruiting Practices" thread, subtly inserts comment about the improper "benefit" received courtesy of Mo Taylor.

I think this is how the "Ideal" basketball team should be put together. Athletic, rebounding bigs surrounded by 3pt shooters and people who drive to the basket. I think Beilein could take his coaching style and it would play in a huge way in the NBA. George Karl is trying something similar with my Nuggets (even if they don't have shooters and forget to drive to the basket).

is probably a little too old to start a career in the NBA.  Besides, he seems to be enjoying himself this year as he can finally see the benefits of all his rebuilding.  I believe he's said as much in a few interviews.

I expect Beilein to finish his very long, successful career in Ann Arbor.  I just hope he can keep his assistants around and groom one of them to be his successor.

As late as last month, Beilein at least hinted at the prospect - (Link to Rivals article)

"I love rebuilding programs. I wanted to do one more, and the University of Michigan ended up being that choice."

Related to this, he's also been heard to say that he intends to coach until he simply doesn't want to do so anymore, so that in combination with the above quote makes me feel good about a nice, long run and bright future for Michigan basketball.
