Another fire RR article

Submitted by jaggs on
http://ncaafootball.fanhouse.com/2009/11/24/legally-speaking-now-is-tim… My question: the National media seems to be embracing the fire RR story despite no evidence to support them. In fact, there is much more evidence supporting him then any speculation he should be fired. Are there really people out there dumb enough that they think M will be better off with a new coach? When the National media says M supporters are pining for RR's firing, who are these people? Do they exist? While immediately after a loss or during an all to frequent 3rd and 25 conversion I think to myself that its not acceptable, it is plain as day to see that firing the head coach will set us back years. Why does the media make this stuff up?

Who everyone is voting for=RR to fail (look at newspapers MSM etc even Tom says it in his posts that MGoBlog is a haven for RR supporters who are blind followers of the man and that the majority of fans are pissed off). So yes on this site he might be the minority but I would say that he's a "normal" fan outside of MGoBlog essentially that they don't know anything but pretend to.

"As much as I disagree with his (tomhagan's) views, they are presented in an adult manner and he attempts to present them in an adult way." How is, "You're a kool-aid drinker b/c you disagree with me," an adult reaction? Is it mature to be the one person in town who says, "All 99,999 of you are wrong and I'm right and MY facts prove it"? I'm sorry, but just b/c he doesn't call people childish names doesn't mean he's not being childish. His arguments are at a 5th grade playground level.

I have a hard time reconciling this being a knock on pro-RR sentiment:
"we are cool, young and enlightened with graphs and charts... so follow us"
And yet this somehow being supportive of anti-RR sentiment:
"Remember: Truths and Facts are what they are, so don't be afraid to draw your own conclusions from them, even if those conclusions draw a crack in the concrete of your own misconceptions...."
The "cool, young and enlightened with graphs and charts" crowd, for example myself, The Mathlete, Brian, et al., provide falsifiable, replicable data, and conclusions based on those data. If you have criticisms of that research, and their respective conclusions, then there is ample room for you to do that. I mean like WIDE OPEN. I mean like you can download the same Excel document I put all that time into for The Decimated Defense, and look over it yourself, and draw your own conclusions from them, or show me where I made mistakes. In fact, I would LOVE it if you did that! Theories, to be good theories, need rigor, and since I'm pretty sure most readers went into reading that series already believing our talent level was causing many of the problems, rigor has been in short supply. If you are a person who understands scientific theory, rather than some Internet jackass trying to peddle his own beliefs and sneering at the insignificance of any opinion which isn't yours, then PLEASE, I'M BEGGING YOU, HAVE AT MY DECIMATED DEFENSE SERIES! What "truths" and "facts" have you brought to the table, Tom? And how do you know you're a "whipping boy" and not "just being an asshole?" I mean, you gotta prove this stuff if you want to go up against conventional wisdom and change minds. You can't just say "Truth" and have that stand as evidence that you're clean and everyone else is full of shit. In fact, using "Truth" as if it's your own provenance like that is a hallmark of the very kind of mindless punditry that you're here decrying. My mind's open. If you can prove to me that we're better off dropping Rich Rod yesterday, I'll be your biggest supporter. Proving means doing the legwork. It means leaving open the possibility that you're wrong, welcoming rigor, and not discounting any dissent out of hand. It means making all of those graphs and charts using available data, and then drawing your conclusions from them. It means going deeper than cliche, e.g. your catchy but essentially dismissive (and therefore intellectually vapid) "you know what they say about Excuses" post signage. I challenge you to do that.

You keep rehashing the same tired points day in and day out. We get it, you hate Rodriguez and yesterday would have been too late to get rid of him in your eyes. As we all know the season is over and both the AD and school president have said he's coming back. So it's clearly not going to happen. With that being said, why don't you just give it a rest? For crying out loud it's Thanksgiving and you're still begging for a guy to be fired! Think about that for a second.

Check out comment #13 (from jft02, who sounds like a classic townie / Walmart Wolvie specimen who claims to be a graduate). Among the jewels: * Coach RichRod should be fired now for the good of the Michigan Football program! He should be fired because he is 8 -16, as the Michigan Coach he is a loser end of story! DUH! * The reason you fire him now is so that his type of players/recruits don’t do further damage to the program, his under- sized, weak, and slow players (on average they are no faster than the Coach Carr years…except at QB…..) are not able to compete with the bigger and stronger Big Ten Type player, as evidenced by the way that the defensive line and offensive line as gotten pushed around all season ….giving up a record amount of rushing yards, and not to mention getting burned each and every play in the defensive secondary. DUH! (Comment: Those light and fast defensive lines from Florida State have really gotten pushed around in big games, haven't they?) * How many great WVU players are in the NFL from his 7 year tenure at WVU, which is how I measure talent when I want to compare because the Big East in not a powerhouse Football conference historically. (Great discussion flow, professor.) * How many National Championships did this so-called great Coach win at WVU? (@#$% almighty... how many did Bo win?) * He created the situation the team is in, the cupboard was not bare he ran away the right kind of QB…(Ryan Mallett now starting at ARK in the SEC) and Offensive linemen (3 of them like Justin Boren..Now starting at OSU) (Wow... never heard that one before!) * Why not analyze what it is that the players you have on hand can do, then create a system which would allow them to win more games than they lose, end of story. (That's right! Take Steven Threet and get yourself to the Outback Bowl. Easy!)
