Another 2013 OL offer: Cameron Hunt

Submitted by dnak438 on

According to the Twitters (a Sam Webb RT among them). He's from Corona, CA (Centennial High School, Vontaze Burfict's school).

  • Rivals: 4 star (#31 OL), 6'4", 255 lbs
  • Scout: 4 star (#13 OG), 6'4", 255 lbs
  • 247: 3 star (#54 OT), 6'5", 275lbs
  • ESPN: 4 star (#13 OT, #220 overall), 6'4", 267 lbs

(Edited to clarify rankings from various services).

Rivals has eight 4- or 5-star players from Corona Centennial in itsdatabase; Burfict was the only 5-star, and of course I immeditely recognized him. Matt Scott (current AZ QB) also went there. (By comparison, Cass Tech has twelve 4- or 5- star players in the Rivals database).

Hunt seems excited with his quick jump on an official visit. Na'Ty or Lacy would be great too. Who else visits with them? When is LaQuon's official? It's critical for the right mix of players as other commits (ie, Shane) are not present and the Big House isn't packed with fans.

For the guy worrying about the rankings. Something else to consider is character. Hoke by many estimations(FE-Dakich last night announcing the UM-NC St. game) is "the nicest man in the world". That isn't going to breed the instant allure multiple title rings does. But with success he'll get a better and better foothold. Then when you enter the living room you have a sleazy proven liar in Meyer who has shown to go after flawed character and have his own flawed character. While Hoke has shown character comes first. Good parents more often than not have good kids as opposed to bad parents. And good parents will recognize Meyers bling approach as what it is, and they will recognize Hoke for what he is. We will build momentum and if we are even we are leavin. We just have to get to even.

I think the advantage Hoke has over Meyer is the ability to identify under the radar talent.  Stribling being the most obvious example.  If Meyer simply recruits based on star rankings, he's going to get some good/great athletes, he also might wind up with a team of players that he can't keep under control and with the recent events at tsiO, enough negative attention and things could go south real quick.
