Iowa sophomore running back De’Andre Johnson was charged with eluding on Saturday just two days after being cited for a disorderly house.

According to the University Heights Police Department Johnson, 20, was pulled over on his motorcycle shortly after 9 p.m. after initially failing to stop after speeding away from a red light.

The police report said that Johnson pulled out of his driveway and was waiting at the red light at Benton/Sunset intersection, and “rapidly accelerated.”

He was locked in at 60 mph in a 25 zone and the police “activated top lights and sirens. Defendant continued to gain distance.”

Johnson finally pulled into 1018 W. Benton and parked his motorcycle behind a vehicle in the grass. The report said Johnson said his friend lived at the address but no friend “Jake” was every found.

Johnson is being charged with eluding, a serious misdemeanor, punishable by up to one year in jail and a mandatory fine of at least $315 but not more than $1,875.

Iowa coach Kirk Ferentz released a statement Sunday afternoon: “I was very disappointed to learn of the situation involving De’Andre Johnson Saturday evening.  As a result, De’Andre has been suspended immediately from all team activities.”

Johnson was ticketed by Iowa City police for maintaining a disorderly house

I have a couple of ex-girlfriends who would be in major trouble there...

It was bad enough that I had to work with half of Iowa's two-deep for analyzing Big Ten RBs for my next diary (Canzeri being out with his ACL tear), but Johnson's suspension eliminates the other half of it. I will choose randomly between the two redshirt sophomores and the two walk-ons, which is the same method Iowa will use when choosing a starter.

It's a distinct possibility that he was "eluding" because he didn't realize the police were behind him.  It happened to me and my brother when we were teens, driving a 1973 Vega, of all things.  The local police had some crap car with a top speed of something like 85-90 mph and we were leaving them in our dust.  We ended up with a whole lot of police from 3 different jurisdictions pulling us over.  We honestly did not know there was some police officer way behind us who couldn't keep up with a used Vega. We were definitely speeding, but we were not eluding in any intentional way.

He should have just explained, "Sorry, officer. I was being chased by AIRBHG, so I was trying to get away." He would have gotten a police escort.
