Andy Mignery says Tate not doing enough over 20 hour work

Submitted by M-Wolverine on
Well, not exactly. But I thought it was kinda funny (in an funny ironic, not funny haha way) that on the radio this morning in reaction to Tate saying he wants the seniors to leave with a win over OSU that he'd be in the film room for ten hours to make sure they get the victory. And Andy's reaction is that "ten hours, that's a minimum" he should be doing. John Navarre called him when he saw the article and confirmed his thoughts by saying "yeah, ten hours...a day". So, in light of even more crap being heaped on the team for working too many hours and not recording it, I thought it was interesting that to former players it doesn't seem like they're using too much of their "private time" to prepare. How do we know that Tate didn't mean 10 hours a day? This quote is being talked about too much, it's irrelevant. He said, "If it takes 10 hours in film this week.." which could've meant, "If it takes 10 hours (a day) in film this week.." since he was exaggerating, and essentially saying he doesn't care what it takes. His preparation hasn't been in question before this, and I'm assuming it's not now.

I'm not questioning his preparation. Just saying that it hardly seems like they're working any more (or less) than they always have, and former guys don't see it as some excessive violation of players rights. In Tate's case, I'm sure he just threw a number out. He kinda shoots from the hip, verbally.

and webb and mignery acted like a couple of d-bags on this issue. i think tate misspoke and they jumped all over him about how many hours he should watch tape. navarre, that freaking waste of a qb, even chimed in according to mignery. they go out of their way not to say anything bad about the coaches, but they throw a 19 year old kid under the bus for misspeaking. assclowns.

the same QB who left Michigan as the all-time leader in passing yardage, passing TDs, completion? He was the last starting QB who beat OSU(I don't like to use win/loss record to say that the QB is good). Yeah, he is a freaking waste of a QB.....

in spite of navarre, not because of him. chris perry and the oline beat osu that year, not that statue. not to mention he single handedly lost the osu game in 2001 when we had a better team.

"a freaking waste of a QB". Particularly when it wasn't the case. He spent a year and a half playing when he wasn't supposed to be, because of Henson's ups and downs. And right now, he has our last win against OSU under his belt, so I wouldn't discount him so lightly. (Yeah, yeah...it was Chris Perry...well, throwing for all those yards since hasn't done us a lot of good, has it?).

UM Fany NY - Not only did Navarre win a ton of games and ended up being a leader in many of the passing statistics at Michigan, but he also had his day in the NFL (even started a game or two). This kid never should have been starting as a freshman, but that is not his fault. Throughout his Michigan career he made the most of his ability - enough so that no one passed him on the depth chart. Don't you think it is about time for you and fans like you to lay off the kid and recognize him for what he did achieve. He is a good kid who made a huge contribution to the Michigan program. For you to continue to bag on him reflects poorly you.

pretty sure Navarre started as a freshman for a hurt Henson, but it was only 3 games. The real problem with Navarre's sophmore season was Henson bolting for the minor leagues. DAMN YOU STEINBRENNER!!!!!!!! other than that Navarre was a great quarterback, especially in his senior year.

I'd suggest you watch some games from 2003 again. With the exception of the Oregon game (when he struggled), Navarre had an excellent season. Yes, he had some limitations, but he squeezed every ounce of ability he had. He became the only QB in school history to top 3,000 yards passing in a season.
