Andrew Copp makes the Jets (EDIT: And scores a point)
If he and Larkin both stay up most of the year, that's pretty persuasive proof that their choices were wise. I hope they do; good for them making the show on opening night.
EDIT: The Jets beat the Bruins handily, and Copp had a nice assist on their fifth goal. Nice start.
EDIT again: saw on Twitter from Jeffrey Weinstein that Copp's first point was at the end of last season, which I had forgotten or never knew. I edited the thread title to fix, and my apologies to COY if I am the source of their tweet that Weinstein corrected.

Yay Andrew! Who are the Jets?
October 8th, 2015 at 2:54 PM ^
Winnipeg
They were the Jets for a long time, then moved to Atlanta to become the Thrashers (for some idiotic reason), but that didn't last long, as they moved back to Winnipeg.
October 8th, 2015 at 3:11 PM ^
The original Winnipeg Jets were a WHA team that moved to Arizona and became the Coyotes. The current Winnipeg Jets moved from Atlanta where they were a late 90's expansion team called the Thrashers. For records purposes, the records of the original Jets were absorbed into the Coyotes records books and the new Jets carried the Thrashers records with them.
For the record, New Jets logo / jerseys >>>> Old Jets logo / jerseys
October 8th, 2015 at 3:15 PM ^
No fucking way... The old Jets logo and jerseys were 100 times better
October 8th, 2015 at 3:25 PM ^
I respectfully disagree. The color scheme is better and the logo is a classic play on the Avro heritage. The old Jets logo just looked confused. I also, for spite's sake, enjoy that they got the Maple Leafs to agree to let them use a maple leaf on their jersey. Suck it Toronto.
Now I will sit back down and politely wait for your counterpoint while offering you a box of 10 Timbits.
October 8th, 2015 at 4:29 PM ^
To each their own I guess but I LOVE the old jets jerseys and logo to no end
October 8th, 2015 at 4:30 PM ^
And we'll call it a toonie for those timbits I picked up... Had to turn down those nasty pumkin spice ones though
October 8th, 2015 at 3:14 PM ^
Incorrect.... The old Winnipeg Jets moved to Phoenix and are now the Arizona Coyotes. The Atlanta Thrashers were an expansion team that started play in 1999
October 8th, 2015 at 3:31 PM ^
This is true. My bad. I just like the Red Wings. They are the best...like, ever.
October 8th, 2015 at 4:06 PM ^
Jets! Jets! Jets!
October 8th, 2015 at 4:27 PM ^
That would be the New York Jets....
October 8th, 2015 at 5:50 PM ^
Now let me check your Canada card...
October 8th, 2015 at 6:05 PM ^
Dude no. That shit just reminds me of the travesty that is Mike Greenberg.

Best of luck to him, I have a feeling Winnipeg played hardball with him to get him to sign and if that's the case then I really want to see it work out for him.
Still makes me wonder what the hell is going on in the hockey program that two guys could leave before their eligibility was up and make NHL rosters and yet the team can't get it's crap together enough to make the playoffs? This just makes me even more convinced that something is wrong.
To be clear, I am not at all certain that Red is the issue, and frankly he's done too much for the program as a player and a coach to be pushed out. He deserves to go out on his own terms.
October 8th, 2015 at 5:37 PM ^
Because of the new CBA teams hold a player's rights for 4 years, not 5, so most teams are going to try and sign their college juniors whether they're ready or not.
October 8th, 2015 at 2:54 PM ^
A few former players. Is someone in the front office an alum?

"If he and Larkin both stay up most of the year, that's pretty persuasive proof that their choices were wise."
I think it's also pretty damning on our coaching staff given the results of the team last year.
October 8th, 2015 at 3:13 PM ^
but I think the addition of Steve Shields as our full time goalie coach is going to prove to be a remarkable upgrade. Raback it.
October 8th, 2015 at 3:19 PM ^
Is this our first hockey-related "Raback it"?
October 8th, 2015 at 4:17 PM ^
I am of the opinion that Michigan won't reach its potential until after the transition we expect next year.
And I am of the opinion that while I may wish he chose to time it differently, our coach has earned the right to choose when he steps down. Only Wally Grant and Vic Heyliger (together) can claim an equivalent level of positive influence on the Michigan Hockey program. Even now, the expectations that the team is falling short of are established only because of the quality of Red Berenson.
October 8th, 2015 at 4:24 PM ^
It was playing Richrod-ball on the ice. A bunch of equivalent 67-65 games. I think I ran the numbers after last season and we're basically the only major-conference team in the last 15 years to miss the tournament with the kind of scoring output we had. Most people scoring 4ish goals a game are one seeds

Formidable!
October 8th, 2015 at 3:29 PM ^
I thought I saw that Kevin Porter was recalled by the Penguins as well.
October 8th, 2015 at 3:32 PM ^
Ugh, I want to go to the Jets-Bruins game tonight, but I don't want to shell $63 for a ticket for two less than good teams. I'm going to miss some nice Trouba lasers, aren't I?
October 8th, 2015 at 3:52 PM ^
With Trouba, and Copp on the Jets with Kyle Connor joining them some day, I find it very easy to pull for them in the Western Conference.
October 8th, 2015 at 3:59 PM ^
Full disclosure, I didn't know who Andrew was either. I rejoice with those who rejoice. And I assume he is rejoicing.
October 8th, 2015 at 4:55 PM ^
Friendly reminder that Copp led the state of Michigan in passing his senior year as Skyline's quarterback. Dudes an aflete

Bennie and the Jets?
October 8th, 2015 at 7:50 PM ^
Copp has barely played thus far. 1:32 in the first. Gonna have to make an impression a la Luke Glendening.
October 8th, 2015 at 8:08 PM ^
He was named the captain for the Montreal Canadiens. For those unaware of the significance of that it would similar to being named captian of the Yankees, Celtics or an elite Euro soccer team like Real Madrid or Man U.
October 8th, 2015 at 11:42 PM ^
And Andrew Copp scores an assist!
Not a surprise that his minutes were limited; it's his first game and they have him on the fourth line. Good start, though.
