Analysis: MGoBlog Tourny Challenge

Happy Monday everybody! I feel like this is worse than a typical Monday coming off opening weekend of the tournament (simply judging by Twitter). A quick update: nobody has a perfect bracket; things are still tight at the top, but it's still early; not a lot of parity when it came to picking a champion.

The following are teams picked to win and the percentage of the total:

Michigan(177) - 17.42%

UNC(171) - 16.83%

UCLA(121) - 11.91%

Villanova(115) - 11.32%

Gonzaga(110) - 10.83%

Duke(101) - 9.94%

Arizona(84) - 8.27%

Kansas(80) - 7.87%

Kentucky(37) - 3.64%

Louisville(8),Oregon(2), Baylor(1), WVU(2), FSU(2), UVA(3), Notre Dame(1), Wichita St(1) < 1%

So that's it. Only 17 teams chosen from the vast # of entries submitted. Aside from the Michigan bias, UNC is the overwhelming favorite. I'm sure there is some pickers remorse over that after the weekend.

There are a whopping 1016 entries this year! Up almost 300 from last year. And don't forget we do have prizes at stake this year. I thought it was a pretty good first weekend. Two prevailing topics by media and coaches: seeding and the refs. Both awful.

I have Maryland and Duke in my final four with Duke winning. I admit to being a somewhat casual NCAA basketball fan, so I just guessed with every pick.

My bracket is insanely broken.

Villanova. Yeah. That worked well.

I forgot a few rules:

1. Never bet against Wisconsin prior to Elite 8.

2. Never bet against Butler before sweet 16.

3. Don't overdo it on the upsets.

Literally, my worst bracket ever.

Yeah Kenpom liked them and Larry Brown deep in March was amusing so I way overestimated them, too.

I deserve the comeuppance; had Louisville in the Final Four because I figured that would be the best way to pick up points in this bracket. Apparently I will sell my soul for a chance at a Snickers.

They were one of the hotter teams heading into the tournament which is why I liked them. What I didn't really consider is that they only play six guys. Like, at all.

Weird that I can have zero Sweet 16 teams from one region and only miss one total game (combined rounds) in the South. And yes, everything is better without Dook

Somehow I'm 16th right now, but only 960 PPR. 100th percentile, but I'm most definitely going to drop. I had a perfect sweet sixteen except for Duke and Villanova, both of whom I have in the elite 8.. sigh.

I find myself in the mass of people with 500 points and tied for 45th.

I guess that since I set the prize precedent, that's a good negbang and a half-eaten packet of Necco wafers.

Thoughts?

I had a pretty great round of 64 and then got absolutely destroyed with the round of 32.  How dare anyone pick against Michigan when we actually have at least an outside shot.
