I was in Row B that year. Ordered my tickets late. My cousin and I went to a baseball game earlier that summer and he was saying how we would trounce them. Of course I agreed heh. After the game I went to BWW on State and some fans asked to join me. Didn't notice they were App State fans. We had a good meal but man that was a depressing day.

These threads should lend themselves to decent discussion, but they're doomed to dissolve into gobs of feelingsball (like talk about "playing soft," and other nonsense) and the gnashing of teeth from old men.

we're ranked #5 in the polls and everyone was laughing about playing that game.  I remember pre-game all the "experts" said the game would be totally under control after the first drive of the 2nd half.  I NEVER liked playing them.  AppSt. was coming off a national championship and really was far more athletic than the experts thought they were.

Did Michigan blow the fucking game ... hell yes they did.  I believe we were 0-5 in the red zone ... or something like that.  The next week was even worse as Oregon came to AA

I gotta go puke ...

I only remember two things:

  1. Probably the 48th time that game Armanti Edwards escaped the pocket and ran downfield
  2. That awful sound you'll get in the Big House where it's 105,000 in stunned silence and the faint roar of the 5,000 away fans in the opposite nose-bleeds (you all know this sound) as App St ran the blocked FG back downfield

On 2 counts -first for scheduling the Div 1AA National Champs and second for talking Carr into coming back that year. You can chalk up the bad start (and I'd claim injuries also) to a lack of being prepared.

The first Appy State game was my last in Michigan Stadium as I was taking my son on a tour of campuses.

I remember telling him that we had the #2 high school QB in his first game as a freshman. "Expect to see a lot of  Ryan Mallett in the second half" I told my son.

Before the game began I read the program where is stated

"Mountaineers to Watch - Armanti Edwards - 2006 National Freshman of the Year...Threw for 2,251 yards, rushed for 1,153...Fifth player in NCAA history to pass for 2,000 yards and rush for 1,000 in a season".   Then it said, he "did not start until the third game of the season,"

I looked up and said, "oh, crap, I hope our coaches know this".

We will be avoiding the stadium for the rematch just so we don't curse it.

If it is a close game (within 20 points) I will be quite worried about this season. Though this team will probably improve through the season. I think we may be the best 8-4 team in the country by seasons end!

Made the trip to Columbus so we could visit family, but more importantly so my dad and I could watch the game in the BTN market (we live in TN)... We ended up watching at a BWW with a slew of OSU fans who did not have directv... What a mistake, and one of my worst Michigan football experiences.

I noticed something rather interesting in that article.  It mentions that Appy State was "young" last year, but that they were also "young" in 2012 and it implies that they also got a lot of starters back from the team two years ago.  If that is the case, then last year's performance was probably as much of a coaching issue as anything.
