Let's get it Astros!

Is major league baseball still around? I thought it died out sometime in the late 1990s (I kid, I kid!). But seriously, I wonder how it's going to survive once the baby boomers and gen xers (like me) start to die off. Millenials don't really follow the sport.
October 6th, 2015 at 8:15 PM ^
Um...as a millenial I can say this is incredibly false. Myself and nearly all my friends care a lot about their MLB teams and follow the game very closely.
October 6th, 2015 at 8:19 PM ^
Okay paper tiger calm down. We're all happy you and your friends are unique free thinkers. His post was a little assumptive but the numbers don't lie. There isn't as much interest in the sport as there used to be. Here's a trophy.

lol. why are you so quarrelsome? you hate baseball that much?
October 6th, 2015 at 8:39 PM ^
I love baseball. I'm watching the game now. It's just hurting from a numbers standpoint. Kids are choosing other sports all over the country.

fair enough. i agree with what you're saying, but baseball will be fine. The carribean and latin american countries will continue to pump the MLB full of players and fans will still support their local team.
October 6th, 2015 at 9:13 PM ^
uhh, most parents aren't letting their kids play football. so we're in the golden age of NFL and ncaa football. baseball will always get players
October 6th, 2015 at 8:37 PM ^
This is unnecessarily rude and inflammatory.
October 6th, 2015 at 8:48 PM ^
Also. I would like to see those 'numbers'. As a parent of boys that play travel baseball, I disagree with you in regards to baseballs popularity.
Also, also, all sports have their ups and downs. Just look at the NBA.

My 10 year old loves watching MLB tonight ans Quick Pitch with me.

The Tigers finished in last place this year and had a higher attendance than in 1984, and in a ballpark with a smaller capacity. They have had 11 straight seasons with over 2,000,000 in attendance - including 4 of those seasons over 3,000,000. In their ENTIRE history prior to these last 11 seasons, they only topped 2,000,000 7 times and 2 of those were 1999 and 2000 (last season at Tiger Stadium and first at Comerica).
Unfortunately if any sport dies out it may be football, due to the head injuries and parents not allowing kids to play. More kids play baseball than football. I don't think baseball is going anywhere.
October 6th, 2015 at 8:15 PM ^
probably be okay.
October 6th, 2015 at 8:21 PM ^
baseball is more popular than ever
October 6th, 2015 at 8:34 PM ^
IF THEY WORE AIR JORDANS LIKE JETER YOU WOULD CARE MORE!11!!!!1!!
October 6th, 2015 at 11:10 PM ^
I would argue there are more young stars in baseball now than at any point in the past two decades, and they're not all on the Cubs.
October 6th, 2015 at 8:12 PM ^
When do the Tigers play? Haven't watched a game since May 9, so I assume they still have the best record in baseball and got a first-round bye?
October 6th, 2015 at 10:03 PM ^
on the Tigers roster, Tito? I guess that .309 BA you had for Detroit in '77 will only carry you just so far, huh?
October 6th, 2015 at 8:14 PM ^
Go Yankees!!
October 6th, 2015 at 8:15 PM ^
detainees watch a baseball game.
October 6th, 2015 at 8:16 PM ^
because they're so popular for football
October 6th, 2015 at 8:22 PM ^
Who is she? Have never seen nor heard of her. Some sort of trade from NCAA softball coverage after sending Curt Schilling to the softball world series?

they have five people in the booth right now. I wonder if that's enough. Maybe they should throw Chris Berman in there for a few back, back, backs every once in a while
October 6th, 2015 at 8:48 PM ^
Two things.
1. This reminds me of the Naked Gun and it makes me happy
2. Go Astros.

Astros fell off but are still a compelling story. But rooting against the Yankees is so fun that i want them to stick around.

Astros on the board with a long HR from Colby Rasmus.
October 6th, 2015 at 8:41 PM ^
Astros really need to take advantage of this
October 6th, 2015 at 8:48 PM ^
Very typical of Astros recent hitting. They'll get men on, but rarely capitalize.
Won't advance without clutch hitting.
October 6th, 2015 at 8:59 PM ^
Go Astros, first playoff game in 10 long painful years. That and they are a year ahead of plan from what the GM had talked about 3 years ago.
October 6th, 2015 at 9:19 PM ^
Tanaka having his troubles against this lineup. Yankees having no luck with Cactus Jack.
October 6th, 2015 at 9:23 PM ^
Gomez with the bat flip. If he's on your team, you love him. If not...
October 6th, 2015 at 9:39 PM ^
Just hope the bullpen can hold onto the lead

I think the poster in the DraftKings/FanDuel thread was right: No commercials on ESPN! This has been nice... Now wait they'll show one next break.

Why does ESPN insist on the "behind the catcher" camera angle for the first pitch of every inning?
October 6th, 2015 at 10:08 PM ^
Really hate that the Astros couldn't capitalize on those base runners. That's what has been happening throughout September though and the reason they're even playing this game instead of winning the division.
Go Stros!

October 6th, 2015 at 10:28 PM ^
Astros now lead 3-0 as they plate a run with 2 down in the 7th.
Altuve, who drove in that run with a single, preceeds to immediately steal 2nd.
Lets add some more!
October 6th, 2015 at 11:13 PM ^
Yankees have a good team, but don't have the big stars to step up and win the game for them. Keuchel pitched well tonight - 3 hits, 7 K's, and 1 walk.

Astros do it like they have all year. Pitching, long balls, swiping bases. Love it!
