Amatuer scouting report: Messiah Deweaver
First thread for me. My high school/hometown, Lebanon played Messiah Deweaver's Trotwood Madison last Friday. Trotwood has sent UM: Roundtree, Shaw, Mooore, McCray, and Dawson in the recent past. Trotwood is a Dlll (out of 7) powerhouse in Ohio. They have been to four straight title games in Dll/Dlll. Lebanon is an average size/talent Dl (biggest) team at best.
The game ended Trotwood 37-10. It was closer than that. Trotwood had two pick sixes once Lebanon's qb was injured and returned an onside kick for a td. As for Deweaver, he looks the part at first glance. He has good huddle command and looks like a leader.
He is super tough. He was sacked eight times and hit on almost every throw while going 9/21 for 97 yards and one TD. He was very inacurrate even the few times he had time. He overthrew almost everything and once had a crossing route wide open and threw high and behind the reciever. His best throws were on the run when he would throw right at the line of scrimmage instead of run. His best throw was a post fade for a td on 4th down.
He looks the part but his accuracy must improve. He was under "Gardner at MSU '13" pressure though. He must have excelled in camp settings or a private throwing session to have been offered. Not many qb's do well under that much pressure but, I expected more. He did show extreme toughness and leadership. I am not a scout by any means, but I have officated (four years) and watched high school football for most of my life. If you did not know he was a Michigan commit, he would not have stood out last week. I was using maize colored glasses too.

The kid's got 2 years of HS left. I'll give him that time to improve. Thanks for the home-grown Future Blue Original writeup.

He is only a junior and took some vicious hits. I have faith in some of our coaches. This is just my brutally honest opinions/observations. 4UM4LIFE!

Hopefully that will not be an experinece QB's have at Michigan when he gets here.

Sounds like he will be perfect

"sacked eight times and hit on almost every throw"
Sounds like he is ready for UM. I can see why he was targeted by the staff.

I saw their game against Centerville (undefeated and ranked #5 in the state in D1) last week and it was the same only more so--Trotwood's o-line was overrun and DeWeaver was running for his life the whole game. Somehow they kept it close and only lost 21-14; like you I'm impressed by his toughness.
The one thing I'll add: a lot of quarterbacks that age drop their eyes and lose vision when they start scrambling. He doesn't--he was very very good at keeping his eyes downfield while he eluded the rush.

did he walk on water?

I'm from the Dayton area and know the teams coming up on Trotwood's schedule.
DeWeaver SHOULD put up some pretty good numbers in his next 5 games against Sidney, Piqua, Troy, Greenville, and Butler. He has Sidney tonight (where I live) and they are pretty bad.

Trotwood 80, Sidney 21.
I don't know any more than that--were you there?
