but Gallon has showed an ability to play above his height.  Open that playbook back up, replace fade on one side with stop fade and several of those plays come back in.  Think Gallon against South Carolina.  I think that is the quality of receiver he is and can be going forward.  Don't get me wrong this sucks on a major league level, but there are other areas on the field where such news would all the more painful.

Time for Chesson to step up.  It sucks but it could be a lot worse (at positions where we lack major depth).  I expect either Dukes or Jones to step up as a 4th/5th option for freshmen.

This sucks, I was really looking forward to watching him play. Hopefully the rest of the WR Corp can pick up some of the slack.

what worries me a little.  This is a huge nut punch, but it is not quite Countess level.  My fear is that there is this and then that (or something similar).  I could not withstand that kind of nut punch in addition to the Jake Ryan off-season nut punch already endured.

Why does this keep happening every year? Is this really normal? Going back to 2010 when Wolfolk got hurt in practice, it seems like we have lost at least one significant starter every year before the season even starts. Does this go on at other schools on a yearly basis?

Are you serious? Yes, it absolutely happens everywhere. If Alabama lost the guy who was the probable favorite to win the #2 WR spot, would you hear about it? Exactly.

Football is dangerous, and injuries happen. Part of me just wishes I wasn't so obsessed so I could start the season focusing on all the new faces that I see, and not all the guys who I heard about in camp who got hurt.

Iowa, dude.  Iowa.  And it seems like this year so far, Notre Shame.

But it does seem like this happens a lot more at some places than others.  OSU -- can anyone think of a critical, season-long injury that they have had in the last 15 years?  They haven't had a significant injury to a starting QB in God knows how long.  Troy Smith never got hurt.  Pryor got a boo boo or two, but still played.  Miller has missed a half or two.  The only remotely significant injury issue that they have had in the past 10 years that I can think of is Beanie Wells missing lots of time because of injury.  Even then, I think that he still managed to run for a lot of yards.  And it's not like they have never been thin at places.  An extended injury for them at LB, OL, or QB last year would have caused them major problems.

Just when I was salivating over how Borges was going to open up the vertical attack.  Everyone's gonna talk about Reynolds and Jackson.  Any thoughts on a dark horse?  Csonte York?

Well shit. These injuries are getting freaking ridiculous. Football and all, but man, two starter level guys gone last year plus promising rotational freshman, now one missing half the year with another missing the whole year so far this year. And backup QB out whole year. That's rough.

Get well A Darboh! This team really can't afford injuries. Time for Chesson or Reynolds to step up and make us proud. No doubt they will. Go Blue!!

I considered him an X-Factor.  We know Gallon is a good-great player but losing a guy with some experience, size, speed, and skill is a punch to the gut.  Oh well, football is a dangerous game.  Next man up.

But who IS the next man up?  Chesson was already in our plans, and he'll be forced into a bigger role.  But do we use Dukes this year?  York? Bo Dever? or just more TE (Funchess/Butt)?

As much as I like Dileo, Reynolds, and Jackson they each come with limitations.  We'll overcome the loss with depth, but this is definitely a loss to keep an eye on.

Why does this shit seem to happen yearly? A position for which we need production and a dude goes down with an injury. Fucking shit fuck.

Running and jumping at high speeds with 200-300 lb men trying to crush you.  I've seen people break their ankle in recreational softball games. It's definitely unfortunate but it's not like these injuries are unexplainable.

This isn't good, but it replaces one X with another X.

For the first time, Michigan is going to benefit from... meaningful depth?!?

The existence of Darboh's redshirt year is also beneficial.  I think a lot of things are pointing to the fact that next year is The Year, but this doesn't automatically place this year in jeopardy.

I feel like when we get injured, we get INJURED. I mean, Woolfolk, Countess, Ryan, Wormley, and Bryant in past years and now Darboh.

Does it seem like we get alot of injuries, BIG INJURIES from practice? Is this common in other programs? I'm all for physical practices but I wonder, does it need to be toned down a bit? Or is this common thru out college football?

I don't think foot injuries are usually a product of physical practices. A lot of times they just come from landing wrong or just a weird shift of weight on the foot.

But yes, I agree we do seem to always have at least one big time player get injured each year. It probably just feels like we get more than other teams because we pay more attention to it.

Darboh did not even catch a ball in 2012. He has no catches in college career yet. Even though we were excited for a potential breakout season based on practice reports, he still was not a proven playmaker yet. This injury is nowhere near as devastating as Jake Ryan this year or Denard Robinson and Blake Countess last year.

Feel bad for the kid, but I think the team can get through this. Jeremy Gallon, Devin Funchess, and Drew Dileo are still there. Hopefully, Jehu Chesson and one of the true freshmen can step up and fill the role.
