Am I a bad person for rooting against OSU in the Rose Bowl?
After having had to put up with various OSU fans exulting in the (hopefully brief) downturn of Michigan football, I find it somewhat annoying that these same people have told me that I should be rooting for Ohio State in the Rose Bowl - you know, "as a fan of the Big Ten."
Oh, noooo my friend. No no no no no no no.
I hope they lose. I hope they lose BIG. I hope that Ducks vs. Bucks is an ugly massacre that will have parents ushering their children from the living room, and oh yes, I very much hope that OSU is on the wrong side of it.
Am I a bad person?
Perhaps. But I have five very good reasons to root against OSU tomorrow:
5) Any OSU fan who says that they would ever, at any time, root for Michigan in a bowl or any other game - "as a fan of the Big Ten" - is a liar.
4) If the Ducks' spread offense annihilates OSU, it will be further reason for optimism for the RichRod era at Michigan
3) The beautiful quiet that I will enjoy on Monday as OSU fans avoid me all day.
2) I just like to see them lose.
1) I'm afraid that I might go to Hell if I root for Satan, even for one game.

In 06 before the National Title game, my buddy's (michigan fan) dad (osu fan) had a sign hanging in their garage that said "2002 National Champions on it". A month before the game he decided to add on to it "and 2006 national champions" because of course they were going to stomp the gators right? You know how that turned out. We both cracked up!

I don't openly root against Sparty. Doing so would provide their existence with validation. The worst thing you can do when dealing with a Little Brother is acknowledge their existence.

agreed on your comment about wanting to see a spread team shred tosu, especially considering the talent that richrod is stockpiling these days, i would love to see the ducks roll over tosu.
it would be payback for all of those hair-pulling games where troy smith/vince young/etc... (fill-in your spread qb that can run) ran all over our team!
definitely looking forward to m-football in 2010!

Loyalty and all and I do hope we win our bowl games. But not them not ever! I loathe the very sight of those arrogant pricks and I hope they get stomped beyond recognition. I hope they never win another game ever again in any sport EVER.
Oh and I will not be rooting for MSU either because....f*** them that's why.

I am a fan of Michigan. That means I cheer for them and maybe other teams if I feel like it. And like many above...I will be cheering for all other Big 10 teams...probably even Sparty, but never those stinky bastards from Columbus.
Plus those Oregon cheerleaders are quite nice...

They smile from ear to ear at our recent faults. Now they expect us to root for them in the bowl game because its the Big 10. I seem to remember the 2007 year where every fan of OSU took a great deal of enjoyment in our pain. We all know what two games I am talking about, App St and Oregon. I didnt see them rooting for us in against Oregon. I hope they lose to the tune of 100-0 I HATE EVERYTHING ABOUT THAT DAMN SCHOOL AND THEIR FANS! You are not a bad person and you are certainly not alone when you root against them. Screw OSU, GO DUCKS!!!

Beyond that, Duck fans have been nice here, and I hear, at their place. I don't hold the special team disasters against them, or the fact that they had the best team in the country before the guy who should have won the Heisman over that Tebow guy got hurt.

I root for who I pick in the games for the most part, and despite having done poorly thus far, I would bet that Oregon is going to run over, through, and around Ohio State.

I will never root for OSU either. I don't care if the team down there winning will make the Big Ten look stronger. I couldn't care less about Big Ten pride. In this tough time for Michigan football, with the M being out of the bowl games and OSU playing in big games. The only joy I get is watching them choke on the national stage. I guess that makes me a bad person.

The stronger the conference, the stronger our schedule, the better we can potentially be. The B10 is an academic class of football - I think this expansion talk has really brought me to that point of view.
We don't want the product downgraded by year in year out losses in the BCS. I will always root on the B10, even OSU unless there is some major event that makes it hateful (ala Tressel pulling a Leach like woodshed incident.)
In general OSU alums are pleasent, unaffiliated OSU fans are dorks. I don't let the dorks destroy my loyalties against non conference teams.
Go Bucks! Screw the Ducks! I was there for both losses vs. Oregon. I can't root them on here. Especially after the A2 game.

Rooting against OSU is the correct thing to do. You're a Michigan fan first and that means hating OSU. Living in Oregon and during the week leading up to the Civil War between Oregon State and Oregon the only question I heard all week was "who are you rooting for?" My answer each and every time was whoever will beat Ohio State by the most.

I've said this before and I'll say it a million more times:
I root for two teams: Michigan and whoever is playing Ohio State.
Seeing the Buckeyes lose is the next best thing to a Michigan win. If there was ever a game where, if they won, it was good for Michigan...I still wouldn't cheer for them. I would cheer on the other team to screw up...

I want to see another version of the spread that also has a defense beat the hell out of tOSU. I want to see Pryor with a totally confused look, get pulled, and the "Oh no, not again" in the eyes of tOSU fans.
All this may carry me through a long offseason with the hope that our spread offense and improved defense can do the same to tOSU next year.

I say that, not to provoke a fight -- because we will all be on the same side next November. I just draw a distinction between "rivalry" and "hate."
I'd be happiest if an undefeated Michigan team faced an undefeated OSU team every year in November. Other than vague intangibles (yes, we do recruit head-to-head against OSU for many recruits) I see no upside to rooting for OSU to lose.
As I recall, in the first week of this season, Oregon was the outlaw team of the nation. Rooting for LeGarrete Blount & Co. to run over Ohio State seems inexcusable to me.

Would a Buckeye fan be more magnanimous than a Michigan fan if the tables were turned? No, for two reasons. One, Buckeye fans are vindictive douchebags. Two, they wouldn't know what magnanimous means.
