Alumni Association Football Saturdays

Submitted by EZ Bud on

What a complete and utter failure. I have been trying to buy tickets non-stop since 9:50am, only to run into a litany of technical issues. On three separate occasions, I had Penn State tickets in my cart, attempted to submit the order, only to be met by a confirmation page that refused to load. Penn State is now sold out, and the entire website has shut down due to technical difficulties. Let's install Wi-Fi in Michigan Stadium. Maybe then I will have the privilege to purchase a $100 ticket.  /rant

The website gave me trouble when trying to buy season tickets. Wouldn't let me edit my credit card using Chrome or IE. Finally got it to work on an out of date version of FireFox.

unless you KNOW you are protected, get out of the IE business.  Homeland Security issued a statement that it should not be trusted.  I'm sure many of you know this already and most I think already use Mozilla or Chrome or something else.  Just FYI

I feel your pain...but there is a way to "turn off" a portion of the explorer that causes the damage.  Here are the directions I received from my bosses:

Users must:

(1) If available, use other browsers for the immediate time until a fix is implemented

(2) If IE is your only option (and will be in some cases), ensure any site you visit is known (ex: .mil) and  refrain from visiting all advertisements or links you did not navigate to intentionally

      -   To be on the safe side before using IE for any site, including .mil sites, you should disable the  Adobe Flash Player plugin.

--  To do this go to Tools* it is the little Gear shape  in the top right hand corner, select Manage Add-ons,

-- Then under Show, select All add-ons and then select Shockwave Flash Object and click on Disable button at the bottom

-- This will not prevent the bug if you go to the wrong site but it will prevent  it from running until a fix is released.

3) Use extreme caution as phishing may be on the rise due to this vulnerability

(4) Always use the R-E-A-D methodology before opening email:  Relevant? Expected?  Addressed Properly?  Digitally Signed?

I had much the same experience, tried to buy Minnesota tickets online for about 45 mins, even got them in my cart, but I couldn't get the transaction to complete.

I ended up calling and had tickets in 5 mins.  Was a much better experience.

So now add shitty on-line ordering tool to the list of things stopping people from buying tickets?

Given everything that's been going on around here regarding tickets recently wouldnt you think they'd make ordering tickets as easy and seemless as possible?  Jesus it's almost as if they Athletic Department is trying to cull the heard these days.

This is not intended to be snarky but how does the Alumni Association run a ticket sales campaign without any involvement from the Athletic Department?  Doesnt the Alumni Association have to get the tickets through the Athletic Department making them simply a "front-end" sales facilitator to the back-end ticket distribution?

This is only speculation, but perhaps the athletic office gifts a certain amount of tickets to the alumni association, and they are responsible for distributing them (via sales, fund-raisers, or gifts)

I'm not an alumni association insider though, so I honestly have no idea.

Wasn't this program better when we filled out a form with preferences, either mailed or submitted online, and got the outcome a few weeks later?  I never missed on Ohio tickets.  I didn't even bother logging in this morning, will take my chances on StubHub.

After today's debacle, I'd much prefer the old system where we mailed in a form and entered a raffle. It's frustrating to hear that people were able to get tickets easily by calling, when all the messages prior to the ticket sale stressed that the only way to obtain tickets was to be on your computer at 10am on May 1. However, after 2.5 hours of technical failure nonsense, I also wound up calling and got tickets to Minnesota with relative ease. I just wish I knew I could have called at 10am.

This was a complete failure.  I tried continuously to enter the website starting at 10:00. When I finally accessed it  half an hour later, it repeatedly froze after allowing me to put tickets in the cart. Clearly, the Alumni Association was poorly equipped to handle this and should be embarrassed.

Every year since such option was available and, as they say in the Bahamas, "It's never easy" which seems to be the case with the Athletic Department Internet experiences.

But this is a well-respected university with a great Engineering Department, right?
