Alumni Association big house tours

Submitted by Maize on
I'm going to be heading up for the game this weekend and I was wondering if anyone has any information on or has attended one of these tours. http://alumni.umich.edu/events/big-house-tours I signed up for the tour this upcoming weekend but I haven't really received any info other than a start time. Oh, and it looks like there are still some spots available for this weeks if anyone is interested..

I will be taking the tour in two weeks.  I reserved my spot in early August and did not receive any sort of confirmation until I actually called.  They then sent me the email I have attached below.

Dear Big House Tour Participant,

We have received your registration and look forward to seeing you at the Alumni Association’s upcoming Big House Tour.  Please note that no tickets will be mailed; your reservation will be held at the door.

If you have pre-purchased a copy of "The Big House, Fielding H. Yost and the Building of Michigan Stadium," book(s) will be available for pick-up during check-in at the beginning of the tour.

Please plan to arrive 10 minutes before the scheduled start time of the tour as tours begin promptly at announced start times. Check-in and the beginning of the tour will be in the Junge Family Championship Center located on the east side of Michigan Stadium (next to the tunnel entrance). Tours run approximately 1.5 hours.

Parking is available (at no charge) in the Blue Lot adjacent to Michigan Stadium and the Junge Center. The Blue Lot is accessible from either Stadium Boulevard (south) or Keech Street (north).  Click here  (link to

Please note the following important tour policies:

• No food or drink may be brought into the stadium.

• Children under 5 years of age not permitted.

• Still photography cameras ARE allowed. Video cameras are NOT allowed.

• Only pre-registered guests will be admitted.  (Sorry, no walk up registrations are available.)

• Wheelchair access is available but must be arranged in advance.

If you have any questions or need additional information, please call the Alumni Association’s customer relations department during normal business hours 9am-5pm (EDT) at 800-847-4764.

It was great, you'll have a good time.  Of course, I was pretty easy to please.  You get to walk on the field and toss around footballs. Everything else is gravy.

I went on the tour the day after the game against UConn.  It was great!  You start in the Family Center where Dr. Soderstrum will give a presentation (he could really use a grandkid or grad student to help him with his PowerPoint slides...) which was quite entertaining.  You'll then go through the locker room, take pictures with a helmet and shoulder pads on and gaze and "Strength and Honour".  Then you'll go through the East Side Club and Suite Levels.  After that, you'll come back down to run through the tunnel and out to the field where you can run around and play football for a while.  My recommendation, bring your own ball!  They'll provide some but not many and you'll feel bad taking one from a kid!

I went after the UConn game. Definitely an experience to be had, it was amazing seeing the club seats and suites, and walking onto the field through the tunnel....it was priceless.
