Allen Gant Interview

Submitted by Steve Lorenz on

Hey guys, I was fortunate enough to talk to 2012 commit Allen Gant a couple weeks ago. As has been the case most times, it was a great interview and a lot of fun. Hope you enjoy: Allen Gant

Excellent interview. Hope Allen surprises some people as he's one of the under-the-radar recruits in this class. Sounds like he's got a great head on his shoulders too.

There definitely are a lot of "great kids in this class."  That is why I'm not really all that worried about who the last few recruits turn out to be.  The coaching staff knows who they want, and I trust them to bring in kids who will be cornerstones of the reshaping that is going on with the roster.

I know we can't really make any judgments for four or five years, but I think this is going to be a great class when all is said and done.

Sounds like a true Michigan man there.  I hope the kid has the kind of success Kovacs has had, especially since he holds Kovacs in such high regard, how great would it be to have another Kovacs-like  player roaming the secondary for Michigan for the next 4 years with the coaching of Mattison and co from day one.

Aqua, Given your recently revealed love for Gaga I couldn't help thinking of the aqua of my mind (basically lloyd brady) and Allen Gant breaking into a rendition of born this way after that question about instincts. Made me laugh out loud. Tremendous interview though. Maybe my favorite so far. You can tell Gant is going to make the most of his education and be a leader on the team. He can school the out of staters on what The Game is all about.

Seems like a great kid, and it looks like he can be successful here playing safety in the box.. precisely the kovacs role, and aqua thank you for your work this string of interviews have given us a deeper connection with the young men we will be cheering on for the next few years on Saturdays

Tremendous should have its own bar on the MGoBoard like Tom used to have, or at least a title before the thread titles (i.e. "Tremendous: Allen Gant interview"). I love these so much, and it has very quickly become a mainstay here. I can usually tell when a thread is going to be from aquaman, but I think the blogs should be even more integrated. I love it.

As others have said, this kid just seems to have a great head on his shoulders and all about the team.  Great interview Aqua!  Two things really stood out.  One, when asked who he wants to model his game after, he stated Kovacs.  He didn't state a pro player, rather the player Mattison told him he wants him to play like.  Tells me how focused he is on M.  Two, when asked whether he'd prefer a hit on a QB or an interception, he opted for the interception because it would give the ball back to the offense.  This kid's got it right!

He seems ready to go!

I got a chuckle from this combination of Q&A;

Tremendous: Safeties maybe more than anyone have to have good instincts, but nobody can really explain instincts. Do you feel like you developed those traits or were you born with them?

Allen: For me personally, I feel like I was born with them.

Tremendous: Try to explain your instinctive abilities if you can.

Allen: It all starts with practice.
