I am very confused by Biefeldt being ranked.  Either he is the biggest "sure thing sleeper" recruit ever (with amazing recruiting video that was never seen before 2 weeks ago) or Beilein is starting to get credibility for landing unknowns and MaxPreps just assumes he will be another "Beilein success" even though there is zero evidence to support it.

"The Top 100 is a composite look at the nation's top prospects based on high school success and production, as well as potential at the collegiate level and beyond."

I suspect that Maxpreps put a lot of weight on senior year production, which is why they are ranked this way.  Rivals and Scout consider camps, AAU, and offers pretty heavily.

to a huge market in the recruting world.

Biefeldt's offer list doesn't relfect that of a top 100 recruit and I believe thats higher than any other site on Bundridge as well.

Not that it matters with these 3 commits (who I like), just saying  - these rankings look a little closer to a promotional stunt than objective research.

Everyone outside of a top 100 list isn't a total sleeper.  Theres at least 50 major confererence teams and over 10 scholarships per school - so if you're a top 100 kid you should be getting a lot more offers than that.  You probably know about Biefeldt's ties to Illinois, so Michigan is his only offer that indicates he might be anywhere near a top 100 player.

Not dogging the kid - if Bielien likes him, I'm glad to have him.  I'm just saying the site probably has motive to overrank him and that we shouldn't get too excited about one (of many) sites being an outlier.

I'd bet that UM's Rival's site has a disproportionatly high subscription size compared to MSU's. The readership for internet recruiting sites may not be that great for MSU.  Fanbases and internet-active fanbases aren't always the same thing, nor are recruiting-oriented fanbases.

you think he woulda taught Rich Rod something about recruiting. and winning. and rivalries. and how to deal with the media.

FIRE BEILEIN.

You have obviously never paid any attention to anything I've ever written. I didn't give a shit about points then, don't give a shit about them now. And FTR the bit about Beilein was a joke, I have supported Beezer since day one, just as I supported RICH ROD since day one, and just as I've supported Hoke since day one. All I'm trying to do is lighten the mood of all the MICHons hanging out here. Some get it, most don't.

I am not exactly the super duper recruiting expert, didnt play NBA ball, and do not scout high school basketball for a living, BUT, it is clear to me that......

- Trey Burke is the real deal, and even ranked at about #100, is underrated.  There is no way there are 20+ points better than him.  He should be borderline 5* IMO, top 50 every list.

- Brundidge should be ranked higher than Burke on ANY list, let alone every.

-  No opinion on B(^%&$&kldt.  I just beleive JB has a good eye for what he wants at that position, and trust him.

You just said burke is the real deal and then went on to say brundidge should always be ranked higher than him??

Personally I like both a lot, but I feel burke is going to be the better player in their freshman year.

I think Trey Burke was underrated.  Maybe if the recruiting services re-ranked players he might move up some more.  I don't really care about his rankings, I'm just really happy that he is coming to Michigan.

From what I have seen (and the only one I have seen in person is Brundidge) but it appears to me that Brundidge is vastly overrated, while Burke is slightly underrated. Who knows what the case is with Bielfeldt's rankings.

Belien's system should accentuate Brundidge game on the offense end, the kid will be getting into the paint and causing problems. Defensively IMO is where Brundidge is going to struggle for a good while, but his offensive skill set will get him some productive PT.

has me laughing out loud.  This part of it in particular, but overall very funny.  It's been a rough few weeks at work, so laughter feels especially good; thanks, mgoblogcommunity.  If it had any effect I'd +1 you all, especially DarkBlue--even though he doesn't care.

ESPN Chicago has him as the 4th best player in Illinois ranked ahead of Anthony Davis (a Kentucky recruit). Isn't that deserving of a top 100 ranking? He filled out a little late so he's just now getting the recognition he deserves. I personally think Burke is top 25 but most of the rankings are based on AAU games and he played his best ball in high shcool games.

for ESPN Chicago ranked the players in Illinois on who should win the Ill. Mr. Basketball and he had Max 4th and Davis sixth (while also stating that ESPN Recruiting has Davis as the #2 player in the country). It won't let me link cause it's locked or I would.

Max Bielfeldt, Peoria Notre Dame, Senior, Forward

Bielfeldt, a 6-8 power forward, averaged 23 points, 11 rebounds and five blocks for the Irish. Notre Dame went 28-0 and was nationally ranked before losing in the sectional semifinals. Bielfeldt was the Peoria area’s best player this season. He isn’t as highly touted as the other candidates, but he could steal a number of downstate votes. He is being recruited by Illinois and Michigan.

“Bielfeldt was such a huge mismatch for opponents at the high school level due to his combination of size, strength, craftiness and ability to step out and knock down a shot when he had to,” City/Suburban Hoops Report recruiting analyst Joe Henricksen said. “What sticks out is his consistent high level of production. He is such a presence and force, which enabled his teammates to thrive with so much attention paid to him every trip down the floor.”

Odds of winning: 15-1

  • Chasson Randle, Rock Island, Senior, Guard, Odds of winning: 2-1
  • Wayne Blackshear, Morgan Park, Senior, Guard, Odds of winning: 3-1
  • Ryan Boatright, East Aurora, Senior, Guard, Odds of winning: 5-1
  • Max Bielfeldt, Peoria Notre Dame, Senior, Forward, Odds of winning: 15-1
  • David Sobolewski, Benet, Senior, Guard, Odds of winning: 40:1
  • Anthony Davis, Perspectives, Senior, forward, Odds of winning: 50:1
  • Jabari Parker, Simeon, Sophomore, Forward, Odds of winning: 75:1
