ALL of the disrespekt!

Submitted by KansasBlue on

I hope this will brighten up your Monday morning.  A CBS writer has decided to delve into the favorite MSU topic and rank the five most disrespected programs in the country.  Of course State made the list, and of course the guys at TOC weighed in.  The real conundrum for them is probably deciding whether they would rather be at the top of this list or not.

Here's the CBS article: http://www.cbssports.com/college-football/news/friday-five-the-most-disrespected-programs-in-college-football-2016/

And here is the response from TOC:  http://www.theonlycolors.com/2016/7/17/12210292/michigan-state-disrespected-college-football-programs

A Fan In Fargo

It's so annoying. Sorry I had to chime in as always. It's like all the followers or sheep like ND over in SoDak and NoDak. If you don't pull for the Huskers or Gophers, you like the Irish. It's because this is the bible belt of the world and there's nothing wrong with that but people are just so goofy. ND fans play the Catholic card very well over here and many follow it like a message from the almighty. Majority don't even know what state or city they play in. They just follow. The real fans in the know like the Bison now of coarse, UM, USC, Florida, Bama, Oregon, etc.

As a matter of fact, they did ask him, and it went something like this:

Q: Would you describe Michigan State as a disrespected program?

A: Why is it that no on ever wants to talk about my time with the Lakers? Honestly, it's unbelievable how many people think I know the current state of Michigan State football.

If Dantonio were given a truth serum he'd admit that he likes it this way. Just like Oregon and their uniformzz, the disrespekt is their identity and without it they'd be lost.

"Sparty fans tend to play the disrespect card a bit too often, and that's due in large part to their coach, Mark Dantonio, relying on it." Huh, so that's how you spell his name. Good to know.

Leaders And Best

I think this whole DISRESPEKT and "chip on the shoulder" stuff has gotten so overblown that the pendulum has swung in the direction of MSU actually now being overrated. Most of the advanced stats have rated MSU worse than their final poll rankings in the Dantonio era:

2015: Poll #6; F/+ #9 (S&P+ #13; FEI #8), Sagarin #22, SRS #7

2014: Poll #5; F/+ #11 (S&P+ #11; FEI #10), Sagarin #6, SRS #7

2013: Poll #3; F/+ #6 (S&P+ #8; FEI #8), Sagarin #12, SRS #15

2012: Poll unranked; F/+ #20 (S&P+ #15; FEI #25), Sagarin #37, SRS #42

2011: Poll #10/11; F/+ #14 (S&P+ #16; FEI #11), Sagarin #15, SRS #22

2010: Poll #14; F/+ #31 (S&P+ #29; FEI #37), Sagarin #46, SRS #23

2009: Poll unranked: F/+ #31 (S&P+ #23; FEI #44), Sagarin #46, SRS #55

2008: Poll #24; F/+ #32 (S&P+ #23; FEI #42), Sagarin #34

2007: Poll unranked; F/+ #26 (S&P+ #32; FEI #24), Sagarin #39

They have had a nice 5-year run, but I think The Only Colors is going a little overboard when they say, "MSU is one of the best programs in college football year in and year out."

Don't be a fucking idiot man.  We won the National Title in 1997, won 3 Big Ten titles from 1997-2000 while never avoiding regular season matchups with Ohio State, finished top 10 in 1997,1999,2000,2002,2003 in a lot stronger Big Ten conference.

All good points. But the guy above has good points as well. You celebrate your wins and you take your losses like a man as well. Excuses mean nothing.
We all hope the ship is righted and that our Team knocks the the snot out of theirs for the next 30 years.
If we don't beat them this year...ugh....their fan base is so insufferable as is I can't even imagine...

They don't even get a contract. The disrespect extends to the NFL. Of course, the Washington Paleskins get no respect either!

The thing is, getting respect takes more than just winning games.  If you want respect, maybe you shouldn't pick your players up from jail and drive them to practice.  Maybe you shouldn't show up at coaching camps and interrupt the speakers.  Maybe you shouldn't whine just because some reporter does a story about a rival program.  Maybe if a guy gets arrested for pulling a gun on someone, you shouldn't exploit the situation by giving his scholarship to someone else while keeping the offender as a walk-on.  Maybe you shouldn't have guys deciding to pursue bullshit rap careers instead of accepting your scholarships.  Maybe your star QB shouldn't swipe trophies like purse snatchers from college football legends.  Maybe you shouldn't pretend that college football did not exist before 2008.  Maybe you shouldn't hire dishonest clock operators.  Maybe when your athletes turn professional and enjoy great success, they shouldn't come back to campus and punch-out undergraduates.  Maybe when you catch a lucky break, you should say, "woo-hoo, got a lucky break," and not act like winning on a bullshit call or a flukey dropped punt-snap was part of the plan all along.  Maybe your flagship sports blog should not be Red Cedar Message Board.

Oh, and I don't know whether your program has a roid problem, Sparty.  But if it does, maybe you should fix that too.
