We are all obsessed, but we don't need to know or hear his thoughts right now.

I am sure the same local media that whines about Harbaugh being everywhere will now complain that he won't talk.

Yesterday, WDFN made sure to note at every sports break that Jim Harbaugh is the first head coach in 112 BTN Preseason Reports to not talk to the media.  They were hammering this point home all afternoon.  The whine was strong yesterday.

Valenti was apopletic, it was actually pretty funny.  His complaints broke down like this.

  1. PR is part of Harbaugh's job and not talking to the BTN is akin to direlection of duty
  2. BTN is paying Michigan's bills.
  3. Delany should have intervened and straightened Michigan out. (I would LOVE to see him try that)
  4. Any Michigan fan who doesn't agree with his point of view is a homer and part of the "Harbaugh cult".

To me, this really shows that Coach Harbaugh knows when he can let loose and when it's time to get serious.

I think we're going to see a very different guy August through March than we see March through July...

I will say this about myself... I absolutely HATE getting distracted. It throws me off and takes me longer to do two things at once than it would take me to do one thing and then the other. My thoughts aren't focused, and my brain is scattered. I get irritable and lose my train of thought sometimes completely. I would say that this is one of my strongest weaknesses - My wife would confirm this.

Not saying Jim is this way, but I think for most of us it is difficult to remain completely "focused" when there are distractions out there that face us. Jim is in GO MODE right now, and it's obvious to me that he wants to stay in GO MODE. And while I don't think there's ever a time for him not to be in GO MODE, I'm pretty sure he understands that his brain cannot deal properly (and more than likely politely) with distractions at this point. He's starting something new, and he's going at it full force. Complete motivation.

Love it.

What you stated is not a weakness. Multitasking is a mirage. It doesn't exist. You might be able to correctly call it manage tasking, but in the end humans aren't built for high end, multitasking. You sir have the correct approach.

Well I wouldn't necessarily call it an "approach." That sounds more like a choice. Mine is more like a being. I am who I am. No matter how much it drives my wife insane, I can't hear her speak to me while I'm reading mgoblog. IT'S JUST NOT POSSIBLE.

He seems like the kind of guy who wants to engage in as little small talk as possible. So if he's not going to reveal anything significant, why talk at all? I know people expect the convention of coach speak at this point, but why have another Colin Cowherd situation? The guy doesn't want to talk.

Won't talk to media or fan base Makes the players live in the shittest housing on campus Feeds the players all the same thing, take it or leave it Makes players live in no AC when it's 90 degrees Tells team seniors and upperclassmen are noting special Has lost more players since his arrival than anyone, including Texas. So it seems like he is the type of guy that is best described as a self absorbed Asshole that's ruining any good faith his team may have had. This is easy a 7-8 loss season. Bank on it! First loss will be in Utah, bet the house. The kids will stop playing by the third quarter.

What does a few minutes of Harbaugh speaking coachspeak give me other than a couple minutes to procrastinate at work.  It won't be anything substantive or so who cares. Nothing matters until the team takes the field in Utah.

within the football department on this media stuff.  It's possible that Harbaugh had little to no notice for the Cowherd interview as well as the B10 network interview.  And being the driven over-achiever he is, unplanned media interviews (which he probably doesn't care for much) are a big distraction that he'd rather not do.  If the B10 Network just assumed he would do an interview with him, they were wrong.  Going forward, if the media really wants to get an interview with him, they're going to have to learn to work it out far in advance with the AD PR people so there are no surprises like today.  With JH, they are dealing with someone who sets his own rules and doesn't subscribe to the media conventions they may be used to.

I can only assume this was downvoted due to someone's aversion to book learnin'. Which happens to be an AVERSION I SHARE! Don't ever mention finals, grades, books or "studying" here again. As a wise man once said, "we ain't come here to comment about school." Leave that crap to your MENSA den meetings.

You're crying about not hearing another man speak and say shit you already know. Think about it.

You really want to hear the answers? Post 10 realistic questions that would've been asked and I guarantee me adn other posters can answer them the same way Harbaugh would have.

  1. "They're battling, it's a competition every day...we're just trying to find the QB who's going to win us football games. That's what we want...a leader on the team and someone who's going to put us in the best position to win games."
  2. "Right now it's still a battle, Coach Wheatley is coaching those guys up. Making sure we're getting better every day. I like what I've seen, I like the toughness."
  3. "I haven't worried too much about last year - we're here focused on the here, the now, getting better every day. Many of those guys player last year and go experience. Coach Tolbert had them this summer - got them bigger, stronger - challenge them mentally. Now Coach Drevno is working to find the best combination so we can be a line that is tough, one that sets the point of attach, one that protects the quarterback."
  4. "Right now, Jabrill's focus is on defense - you know, he was injured last year and wasn't able to participate, so our focus is getting him comfortable on defense and letting him compete. Jabrill's a great competitor."

There - four Harbaughesqe answers to your questions about the offense. It's always going to be fluff, it's always going to be the same stuff. The show isn't for you and I...it's for the person who stops paying attention to college football in January.

I basically agree with what you said. We can guess 95% of what would be uttered. Obviously we wouldn't get anything substantive about the team out of him, but that's not the point. Harbaugh has those occassional maize nuggets of hilarious commentary. I mean, we're going down in the submarine? That's awesome, and that is what we want to hear.

...I'm confused, what are you talking about? Go back to B1G media day.

Or go to OUR media day when he was asked about Drake Johnson. He ranted about him for awhile and called him a favorite player. He also answered a number of questions about Jake Butt.

Harbaugh's not against speaking for one person in particular.

i guess, not really though, he definitely speaks more broadly than pointing out particular players, right now...I don't see him answering any question about Jabrill Peppers playing offense at this point, it would be deflected, I guess that's what I'm saying..

This is very consistent with a core statement made by Harbaugh very early in his time here and I am quite alright with it. He mentioned, after all, that he doesn't want to talk about it anymore than he absolutely needs to talk about it apparently, but he wants to be it. Right now, the more time this team spends "being it", the better off we are, I think, especially in this first year.
