All 5 starters from NCAA Championship bball game on Opening Day NBA rosters

Submitted by Moe on

As the NBA season begins, all 5 players that started the Championship Game are on NBA rosters.  The craziest stat is that 4 of them still would techincally have NCAA eligibility.  Link

That hypothetical team is scary good:

Burke

Levert

Stauskas

Robinson

McGary

It'd be interesting to see how they'd stack up against similarly built hypothetical teams from programs like Kentucky.

A team with only three of those guys almost beat Kentucky minus McGary. If you want to take that team in its 3rd yr vs. another Calipari team in its 3rd yr...I still have to give Beilein a coaching edge. I think he'd find a way to win with those guys. That team would be so unbelievably good right now.

Ugh... I so remember this exact moment in time.  Morgan moved left to secure an off-the-ball screen and didn't plant his left leg sufficiently to allow Levert to shoot off the reverse pass post-screen.  They had to reset the offense.   Of course they eventually scored on a jumper.  But still.... it's the little things.

I totally got why Coach B was underwhelmed....

Just seemed like an interesting word. I guess I'm just proud of a lot of teams at Michigan. I'm proud of that Novak senior class that won on all guts and turned the program around. I'm proud of the Mike Martin senior class that fought through tough times to have the best season we've had since what, 2006?

I'm proud of '97 for being the last truly dominant team from the north. And proud of 2008 for never giving up even though the fanbase was divided, they were less talented in most of the games they played in and the system didn't fit their playing styles.

I'm proud of LAST year's team for following up that championship team and embodying all things Jordan Morgan, because, I mean, how can you not be proud of Jordan Morgan?

I've just mentioned Football and MBB, but I'm no less proud of any other sport that embodies the values and traditions I feel are important for Michigan Athletics.

I suppose it's all relative.

Huh? The fanbase was hardly divided in 2008 - that wasn't for another couple of years. And there absolutely were guys on that team who didn't give it their all - especially on the defensive side of the ball.

It really does show how good Beilein is at identifying and developing talent that none of them save McGary were that highly-regarded coming out of HS.

I'm just making a comment/joke about the fact that you can't bring up Michigan's NBA development lately without hearing about the East Lansing Quarterback Factory, and I think it's hilarious how quickly it got back to regularly scheduled programming, with Stanton on the bench, Cousins on the bench in favor of Colt McCoy (formerly of hot mom and perennial Heisman bridesmaid fame), Hoyer still starting because um it's Cleveland, guys...and Brady back to domination.

into the championship game.  We had 5 NBA caliber players and a terrific coach and still lost the game.  It is just so tough to win 6 games in a row against good to great competition.

Think about how much fun that team would be to watch. All those guys were so fun to wtach

I'm especially going to miss McGary handling the ball coast to coast from rebound to eventual dunk/layup.
