Alex Boone Says Harbaugh Pushed 49ers Too Hard

I totally understand why Jim wanted to come back to the college game now.

I didn't know that making it to the Super Bowl was the pinnacle of the NFL. I would have thought it was winning the Super Bowl.

The message is simple for anyone who plays under Harbaugh: do as I say and we will win. I guess the 49ers got tired of that. One thing's for sure, they'll get tired of losing a lot faster than they got tired of Harbaugh.

I had an internet argument with someone who said something about "how many teams who xyz went all the way?" And he came back with a list of one team who won the Super Bowl and three who lost the Super Bowl. So... 1 team, then? But, no! Apparently MAKING the Super Bowl is "going all the way."

In the past, I have found that Boone has an ax to grind against Michigan. If Harbaugh were working for the Jacksonville Jaguars or the Oklahoma Sooners right now, I don't know that Boone would be saying these types of things.

It's difficult to motivate a bunch of millionaires to want to get better. Most of these players dreams were to make it to the NFL and now that they made it there isn't any drive to go any further. From the outside I get the sense that making the Superbowl wasn't enough for Harbaugh but it was certainly enough for the rest of the 49er organization.

the coach is there to call the next suggested plays for the players, and then clap and slap them on the ass as they come up the field. Maybe bring them cookies and milk the night before games.

Come to think of it, I may know of a great guy for the job that all these over paid prima donnas will just love as a head coach.

You would think Boone would have more appreciation for the coach who helped him revive his career after alcohol abuse almost destroyed it.

Tough shit pal. You play football. You're supposed to be pushed hard. Harbaugh pushed you hard to make you better, and he did. Wonder if you'll be singing the same tune when/if your team falls back into the gutter next Fall.

You make millions of dollars every year by playing a game. I don't feel all that bad for you.

Good. I want a guy like that as our coach. I'm sorry if those NFL players are too lazy and don't want to work hard. Bottom line is that they have the privilege of playing in that league and have earned the right to the riches and fame that come with it, but they also have to work their asses off. If they don't like that, then GTFO.

Boone is a buckeye if that clarifies things.  These stories from SF players are not new so it's a rehash during a slow football news cycle. Also you can see why they didn't win the super bowl with players like that.

He just keeps pushing you, and you’re like, ‘Dude, we got over the mountain. Stop. Let go.’ He kind of wore out his welcome.

I know, Alex....it's just terrible when someone believes that no matter how far you've come and how much you've improved, you can be even better than that potentially. It's just awful when people have expectations and strive to achieve, isn't it?

Harbaugh likes to use the phrase "if you're not getting better, you're getting worse." That "win the day" type of mentality seems much more suited to the college game anyway IMO. I'm sure most NFL vets with a nice paycheck wouldn't want to have a coach like that. That shtick seems like it would work much better with college kids, constantly pushing them to get better every day so one day, they can be the ones making that nice NFL paycheck.

That the guys paid millions of dollars can't be bothered to have a "win the day" mentality, but the guys who 90% of won't get into the NFL and owon't get a dime playing football are much more suited to this mentality, Sad, really.

I don't care how much money you make or how good you are, if you're not striving to always be better you are not doing your job right.

I'd take this as a compliment if I were Harbaugh. This shouldn't be a red flag at all. If I were a parent of a high schooler, id be chomping at the bit to get my kid into Michigan just because of this. Post this on Harbaugh's statue outside schem hall.

Because I ant to say that the great leaders don't just make the summit and call it a day. The great leaders make the summit and look across for a taller mountain to climb. Mr Boone doesn't understand because he does not have the pedigree of a great leader, or the work ethic to become a great leader.

He's a buckeye, knows his NFL career will likely be short, and so he's prepping himself for a successful career selling insurance or used cars in Columbus by insulting Harbaugh.
