Albuquerque sports writer rips Harbaugh for moving Gentry to TE
He says Gentry should have signed with Alabama because he would have a national championship. No mention of how he will win several at UM.

Didn't Gentry initiate the move to TE because he wanted to see the field sooner?

I'm not sure. My key insider to the situation can't get a call back from Zach or his dad. :-(

trick play, I will laugh in this Albuquerque sports writer's eye.

I don't have any inside information - just speculation honestly. Gentry was the guy Harbaugh went after in the 2015 class, so I think he must have seen something in him. Based on that, I doubt that he's given up on Gentry so soon. It seems more likely to me that the 2 deep looks pretty good for now, with O'Korn and Morris/Speight, so Harbaugh is using the position switch to give him a chance to see the field, something he has done quite frequently already with other players. Just my opinion though.

Could possibly be that Gentry is a really good TE or that he wanted to move to TE, or both.

of moving any higher than a career backup in AA. He may have thought otherwise, but I do know Jim is able to evaluate talent at a level as good as anyone in the game. It is not unusual for a coach to give players a chance at proving themselves at their desired position with the understanding you could move elsewhere.
However, and I can't imagine even the writer from that paper can imagine a coach that sees something special in a young man at another position, would be dumb enough just to ignore it and allow him to go through his career without making an attempt at becoming a very special player, albeit at a position that is not his first choice. I also believe if he had played at the highest level of competition in a number of different states, he might have been recognized and recruited as one of the nation's best at that position That is what his size, athleticism and intelligence suggest to me. This kid has a chance to become an excellent TE.
So Harbaugh, a Super Bowl coach, believes I have a chance at becoming a good TE, maybe great and he believes as a qb, I might get mop up duty as third man in line. What am I to do? I think I would take my chances with his evaluation, no matter how much this might sting my ego at first. Mind you as well, it did not hurt him a bit, as part of his RS year, to be able to gain a great deal of understanding what is expected of the TE in this offense and even throwing to some of those he will now do battle with.
Something also tells me Gentry might have become aware, by nothing more than the caliber of those he was competing with daily, that they were a little bit better than those he competed with for the starting job at his high school in New Mexico. There have been more than a few instances in the past where players who believed that strongly in their skills at a certain position, they were willing to transfer, set out a year and then compete. Damn, the name O'Korn comes readily to mind.

This one?
"Not that anyone in Ann Arbor, Mich., gives a hoot about what some schmuck sportswriter in Albuquerque thinks."

I would have thought this one:
"I may very well be clueless about the entire situation. And admittedly, I have zero inside information. I’ve never seen a Michigan football practice, and have no idea how Zach Gentry looked in drills last year."
Nothing like a "journalist" saying he admittedly doesn't know shit, then in the next breath spewing reasons the kid made the wrong college choice based on literally nothing.
It sounds like this guy has spent the last year telling his drinking buds, "Wait until you see how my good friend Zach Gentry plays QB at UM, he will be the next TOM BRADY!!!!!" Only to be butt-hurt about the move to TE.

Tacky in calling Harbaugh out on this move to TE. His reporting is pretty ticky-tacky, or shoddy.
Wait...Ticky for a middle name?

He sounds like a complete ignoramus when it comes to CFB. He calls taking a high ranked QB in the 2016 and 2017 classes a real head scratcher. What does he think Nick Saban does, take one every four years?
Writing about how Gentry feels based purely on admittedy totally uninformed guesses is the mark of a complete hack.

Seriously, what does it take to be a sports reported in Alburqueque? He must have been rejected in Wyoming.

Nah dude, he's totally right. Gentry should be the only quarterback for Michigan even two years after his eligibility runs out. Otherwise it's gotta be Harbaugh and his antics.
