bama's bad kicking will actually cost them games
September 23rd, 2010 at 8:57 PM ^
Pfluger haunt Alabama at the Cowboys Stadium!!!!
September 23rd, 2010 at 9:06 PM ^
when that happened. That's the only thing I actually remember without watching video. Ahh, the memories. As much as I love Mgo...I do miss the simple times of childhood where Michigan could do no wrong in my 12 year old eyes.
September 24th, 2010 at 6:47 AM ^
Was awesome in that game. Possibly his best as a Wolverine. David Terrell also.
September 23rd, 2010 at 9:08 PM ^
defending national champion!!
September 23rd, 2010 at 10:29 PM ^
You need to update your sig again - we're up to 880 wins.
September 23rd, 2010 at 8:44 PM ^
Wow I like it, but is there only going to be 5 home games that year?
September 23rd, 2010 at 8:46 PM ^
Good point, but four Big Ten home games and two non-conf home games would be six. I wonder if they'll take a hiatus from Notre Dame. That move would be fine by me.
September 23rd, 2010 at 9:05 PM ^
Well if we don't skip Notre Dame in 2012, then we could only have 6 home games. Plus we already have Nebraska and Ohio State on the road. Seems like it would be beneficial to drop Notre Dame in South Bend for 2012.
September 23rd, 2010 at 8:47 PM ^
Two tasty OOC cupcakes and four Big Ten games (with OSU and Nebraska on the road). That is looking like a crappy home slate.
September 23rd, 2010 at 8:47 PM ^
plus Alabama obviously would be neutral. I'd assume 2 non-conference home games, plus 4 in-conference home games. I'm going with 6.
September 23rd, 2010 at 10:57 PM ^
No, we're taking a hiatus from ND for 2012-2013, so we will have 7 home games.
September 24th, 2010 at 3:54 AM ^
Who cares? Michigan will have the toughest schedule ever in 2012 adding Alabama. If Iowa, MSU, Nebraska KEEP getting better every year, and tUOS is still a top dog.. If we still got ND on the schedule and THEY improve... thats 6 BIGGG games in one season. If we come out alive... i dono what kind of things ill do.
September 24th, 2010 at 12:55 PM ^
No, I don't disagree with that, but we will have 7.5 home games in terms of revenue.
September 23rd, 2010 at 8:46 PM ^
I didn't even read the article - I didn't even let the text on the page load. But I saw Atlanta in 2013-2014 in the page title. Woooooooo!!! If that is factually accurate. So awesome. Party at my place!
Edit. Aaaand...that is why you let the text load. Fail. You are still welcome to come party though.
September 23rd, 2010 at 8:50 PM ^
You got punk'd. Sorry bud. Maybe we'll schedule a non-conference with GT in the future?
September 24th, 2010 at 9:19 AM ^
This would be awesome. Georgia or Georgia Tech will do. Athens is a fun town, and Atlanta obviously is a fun city.
September 23rd, 2010 at 9:09 PM ^
you missed out on the juiciest tidbit outside of the 2012 game- Alabama is scheduled to visit Michigan State in 2017, the last year of Saban's contract. How awesome would that be?! Of course, he'll be coaching somebody else by then, but one can dream.
September 23rd, 2010 at 8:49 PM ^
Nice work by Brian, here, too. This is a pretty big win for him. Congrats.
September 23rd, 2010 at 8:51 PM ^
6 home games? We must really be getting paid to play in this.
2012 OOC looks to be brutal if Kelly turns ND into a good/great team. Bring it on!
September 23rd, 2010 at 9:01 PM ^
Hopefully we have our defense figured out by then.
September 23rd, 2010 at 9:09 PM ^
We'll have a lot of seniors and juniors not freshman and sophomores by then. Plus on the other side of the ball we will have a senior Denard.
September 23rd, 2010 at 9:21 PM ^
While I was mostly being facetious, we have to assume that our defensive attrition slows from a hemmorage to a slow trickle for our defense to be lead by upperclassmen by then.
September 23rd, 2010 at 9:02 PM ^
WOOOOO!
I like this...what a schedule in 2012...Nebraska on the road, Ohio State on the road, Notre Dame on the road (not official), and now Alabama in Dallas...
September 23rd, 2010 at 9:06 PM ^
I'd like it more if we were playing Bama in Ann Arbor or Tuscaloosa. I don't like the idea of us playing our biggest OOC game in an off-campus stadium. This better not be the start of a trend.
September 23rd, 2010 at 9:12 PM ^
Its about the only way now to get top programs to play each other....
Really it's better than nothing...I'd rather play Bama anywhere instead of scheduling William and Mary for a home game.
September 23rd, 2010 at 9:20 PM ^
If USC will go to Minnesota, we can get a good opponent to come to Ann Arbor. Hell, Sparty is doing a home-and-home with Bama later this decade.
September 23rd, 2010 at 9:26 PM ^
Not to mention the OSU v USC home and home, and the OSU v Miami (YTM) home and home.
September 24th, 2010 at 12:57 AM ^
Yeah but USC probably saw that game as a win, and Alabama probably sees MSU as a win as well, it is not quite the same as scheduling a game against an "equal" opponent. And, yes USC did schedule OSU, I just think that argument is a little bit apples to oranges.
September 23rd, 2010 at 9:19 PM ^
2012 is turning into a huge year in regards to the national perception of this team and the conference. It will be a great time down in Texas at Jerry World if 2011 is awesome and 2010 shapes up to high marks
2010 - 10-3 with bowl win 2011 - National Championship contention 2012 - Look out!!!
We can be optimistic right?
September 23rd, 2010 at 9:07 PM ^
the defense of our National Championship.
September 23rd, 2010 at 10:36 PM ^
Hey, I think you forgot the words "two time" between our and National.
September 23rd, 2010 at 9:15 PM ^
We have had success historically against the SEC so this is a very winnable game.
September 23rd, 2010 at 9:16 PM ^
...just to hit that video board during punts.
September 23rd, 2010 at 9:39 PM ^
Halftime show at all??
September 23rd, 2010 at 9:24 PM ^
Why pick a state where there is relatively little interest in either program? Why not a place with local fan bases, like the Orange Bowl (rematch!), Solider Field, the Rose Bowl, or somewhere else historic for the programs?
That being said, this is the biggest non-conference game Michigan has scheduled since, well, maybe ever. I suppose if this is the only compromise under which the teams would agree, we have to do it, but still.
September 23rd, 2010 at 10:38 PM ^
Best OOC game ever? Not even biggest of the last 25 years...try Mich vs ND, #1 vs #2, 1989 I believe (the Rocket Ismail game)...
September 23rd, 2010 at 10:47 PM ^
They're playing in Texas because Jerry Jones is going to "make it rain" on Michigan and Alabama for coming and playing in Jerryworld.
September 24th, 2010 at 8:00 AM ^
Arlington is smack down in the middle of Dallas. We have a sizeable following in Texas, much like anywhere. But I think it helps in recruiting Texas players more than anything. A "bowl game" outside of bowl season.
September 23rd, 2010 at 9:27 PM ^
A little background: I've been traveling with same group every year to a different Michigan road game. A couple of years ago, we finished the entire B10 road circuit after visiting all of the other ten campuses. So in 2009 we went back to A2 and luckily picked the Indiana game, our only conference victory. This year we struck gold in South Bend. Next year is pretty grim for road games, so the heavy lean at this point is to go back to A2 to see our first night game vs. ND.
For 2012, we are pretty much set on seeing the first ever game in Lincoln against the B10's newest conference member.
But now comes this and I have to confess I'm a little torn. The chance to play a recent national champion, the chance to test our mettle against an SEC team, the chance to beat Saban, and the chance to see a game in Cowboys Stadium.
I think @Nebraska is the right call here but would be interested to hear others opinions either way. Which game would you go to?
September 23rd, 2010 at 9:30 PM ^
problem solved
September 23rd, 2010 at 10:33 PM ^
There can only be one *official* road trip with my crew each year and while my wife would have no problem with me going to two games--she totally gets this Michigan affliction--there's no way we'd get the whole group out to two games.
To your point, however, I would strongly consider going to both games even if it's not the whole group for one or an officially sanctioned road trip.
And let's be honest, this is a very, very good "problem" to have.
September 23rd, 2010 at 9:32 PM ^
That is a tough call, but I would pick an on-campus game in Lincoln over tailgating in a parking lot in Texas. In September.
September 23rd, 2010 at 9:33 PM ^
I would pick the Alabama game in Dallas. You'll have plenty of chances to see Michigan in Lincoln in the coming years, but how many chances to see Alabama v. Michigan on a neutral field in Dallas?
September 23rd, 2010 at 10:04 PM ^
with the group of guys I tailgate with. We also try to hit a road game every year. For 2012, we agreed that we'll be going to Arlington.
Seeing Michigan play in Lincoln would be historic, no doubt. However, it is going to be damn near impossible to get tickets. That will not be the case for the Bama game. In fact, I will not be surprised if the option to buy a ticket is offered to season ticket holders. Also, the Lincoln road trip will be an option every other year. Bama in Arlington is a one time thing.
September 23rd, 2010 at 9:50 PM ^
we're rolling out the "blue" carpet for you! C'mon up!
September 23rd, 2010 at 11:26 PM ^
UM vs Bama in Arlington would be great. I guess they'll have to figure out how to split concessions. I just thought of something, you might be able to buy a beer at the game, for $12.00, of course.
September 24th, 2010 at 2:39 PM ^
That was going to be my comment - definitely pick the game in Texas Stadium. It'll be like watching the CCHA playoffs last year at the Joe and being able to pound beers, only not in Detroit (although I hear Dallas isn't much to speak of, either). That is the real once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.
September 24th, 2010 at 1:30 AM ^
I do the same thing with my buddies. One roadie per season. I'd vote for Lincoln, by a mile. That's a real football/B10 atmosphere. Historic. Dallas is just a big, generic city in sweltering Texas. No atmosphere whatsoever. And, if you're talking budget, Dallas is a much more expensive location to visit.
