I very much have a Southern accent, but remember, Southern and Country and very different accents. You don't sound like Jed Clampett if your IQ is 150.

He was a perfectly kindly old fellow.

That's an interesting point, because as I see it UM is likely to be much better at the end of the season than at the beginning. The same is presumably true of Alabama, but I tend to think UM's improvement will be more pronounced (only second year under Borges/Mattison, lots of young players) than Alabama's (lots of upper-classmen playing in a familiar system).
Of course, we will be able to tell for sure which of us is right when UM faces Alabama in a national title game rematch, right?

I agree considering how many starters they lost compared to UM and how quickly talent tends to ramp up with a little experience. I think UM has a better chance, albeit slightly, getting Bama earlier than later. Remember they are also adjusting to a new OC to boot.
In looking at Bama's schedule last year they really laid wood on almost everybody except that first LSU game. Most of the games where their opponents actually scored more points were also games where the opposing QB had some appreciable rushing yardage. Interesting to note that although PSU lost to Bama, they had the second smallest scoring differential outside of the loss to LSU.
Not sure any of this proves anything but it makes me feel a little better.

Rebuilding is not the right word for our defense. Reloading is better, particularly for the front 7. We have 5 (Definitely 4) future NFL players in the front 7, and 2 in the secondary. Secondary is a combo of rebuilding/reloading. We could make a couple of mistakes in the secondary with communication, but if you're expecting a wide-eyed, thinking-too-much, mistake-prone group to step on the field on D in Arlington, you've got another thging coming. I fully expect Alabama to have a top 5 defense this year, and should be the odds on favorite to be # 1. The scheme is top notch and we return A LOT of Talent.
Tailbacks:
1) Eddie Lacy
2) Jalston Fowler
3) Dee Hart
4) TJ Yeldon
5) Kenyan Drake
All of the above are legit, although Hart needs space to work and Fowler is a do-everything jumbo back. Lacy, Yeldon, and Drake are all about 6'2" 215-220 pound every down backs. Yeldon is 6'3" I believe. Drake may redshirt, however.

I agree with your sentiment, but Saban's worst defense at Bama has still been top 10, so in order for us to have a "lousy defense" our entire first and second string's must die in a fiery plane accident. Bama's D could be awesome, but at our worst we're talking 15-20 in the country - at absolute worst.

The matchups in the two deep, if we're talking size, don't look too bad really. I haven't had time to do too many comparisons, but as an example, our offensive lines are similarly sized for the most part.
LT: Average is 6-4, 307 for Alabama, compared to 6-7, 297 for Michigan
LG: 6-3, 305 for Alabama, compared to 6-3, 302 for Michigan
C: 6-5, 295 for Alabama, compared to 6-4, 292 for Michigan
RG: 6-4, 307 for Alabama, compared to 6-4, 312 for Michigan
RT: 6-6, 324 for Alabama, compared to 6-8, 302 for Michigan
So you get an idea what our defense would look like against their OL in terms of size, using this site's unofficial two-deep for the sake of argument:
SDE: 6-5, 278
NT: 6-4, 300
DT: 6-5, 292
WDE: 6-4, 269
Compared to some select elements of the Alabama defense:
Their DEs average 6-4, 289
At NT, you're looking at 6-4, 317
Linebackers for the Tide average around 6-3, 241. Ours are around 6-2, 232
Again, this is not exhaustive, but hopefully it is somewhat useful.

We're busting at the seams with 4 and 5 star linebackers. They're everywhere.
