Dp the service academies offer red shirts to their athletes? I wonder this because they require service duty after graduation. But, either way, I hope it's a speedy and effective recovery for him! And hopefully it doesn't affect him in the service after graduating.

No redshirts at service academies, no. (They each have a prep school where some students will go for a year if they're not ready to play.) Four years to play four years, and then they're off to serve our country for another four years. Really a shame this young man got hurt. I can't even imagine how much he and his family were looking forward to playing in the Big House.

Jeez. That's not good for their team. The center exchange is the key in that offense.

Hope the kid is alright though and makes it back next year.

But with the academy academic structure, he's SOL. USAFA doesn't have a 5th year program (the AF's grad school is at Wright-Patterson, not at the USAFA)  unless he got a waiver from the commandant to postpone his graduation, but most cadets want to get their military careers going. There have been extremely limited 5th yr redshirts at the academies.. if that happens the cadet stays around for a 5th year in some weird post graduate status, but again this is VERY VERY rare.
