Ahmir Mitchell Heading to Rutgers

Submitted by daa browns on

So... the Rivalry continues... In all seriousness best of luck to him and his endeavors.

Ash hates Michigan so much that he will try to use Mitchell to undermine the nice "pipeline" to NJ that Michigan has developed.  I hope Mitchell cleans up his act, goes to class, gets a degree and has a nice, successful life after football.  But I don't wish him or his team a bit of success on the field.

Sorry, but Rutgers needs to stay "down."  Michigan doesn't need Rutgers to rise to the level of "decent team that sees Michigan as a rivalry game."

i don't get the best of luck, well wishes. I'm not saying wish I'll on him, but from the sounds of it, he came to AA an acted a fool. Wasted our staffs time and resources recruiting him.

Eh, I don't know.  I think many people around here for a little overboard with the well wishes.  Refraining from being a dick to the kid is being a decent person.  I agree no one should be giving Mitchell a hard time.  But this is a case where Mitchell clearly fucked up, so I don't think you need to hope that he does well to be a decent person.  I hope he gets his shit together and gets a degree, but I hope he sucks at football.  That doesn't make me a bad person.

Part of being a sports fan is hoping the players on the other team suck (unless you have some other connection to like them).  At best, Ahmir Mitchell is now no different than any other Rutgers player.  At worst, I want him to suck more than the other Rutgers players because he took up a spot in out recruiting class and didn't uphold his end of the bargain.

I hear you.

Never understood how adults who have never once met any of these kids always feel the need to make it clear that they "wish them the best" after whatever transpires.

I get it in the case of Shane Morris transferring or a player who becomes injured and who was actually on the team...

oh well - figured once the news broke about Mitchell that he'd be coaxed to Rutgers

Agreed.  There's a huge difference between wishing the best to Spike Albrecht or to someone like a Brian Cole.  Spike contributed a ton to the team and did everything asked of him.  I don't know the whole Brian Cole story but it sounds like he screwed his own situation up.  I don't want bad things to happen to Brian Cole by any means, but I certainly don't feel the need to wish him well beyond simply getting his like shit together.

I'm going to wish him we'll, not I'll. But seriously, they teach sportsmanship in Little League. You should want people to succeed in life, because that carries over to less asshats in the world. Lastly, the fact that he wasted UM's money is false and irrelevant: UM chose to recruit him, as they did many people who did not commit; plenty of players end up wasting space on a roster every year--so an immature young male athlete gone in less than a year saved the team from more resources spent on him.
