Ballgame. Iowa picks sunseri. Comeback complete.
Afternoon Games Open Thread
Such a great third quarter, such a shitty fourth quarter. It's like The Stache nevel left.
399 passing yards for the game, three passing TDs at 14, 25, and 21 yards each. Sounds like a Tony Gibson coached secondary to me!
Is Clemson v Auburn on or did CMU v WMU actually prempt it?
going off on Auburn. *sigh*
Maryland with the ball down 37-31 w/ 2:26 left
Maryland was down 34-10 at one point...now down 6 and driving with 2 to go. Is this comeback saturday?
44-14. So they're probably better than UMASS
O'Brien threw a terrible interception. WVU with the ball with 1:13 left. Maryland has only 1 timeout.
I'm really reluctant to turn on the MSU/ND game until I'm confident it starts. Tom Hammond is awful.
What is that burning smell?
Nevermind, it's Thomas Rawls redshirt. =)
I was really surprised to see him playing 2 snaps with the 1st string still in.
Auburn's win streak is over.
Why does NBC have a studio show too? I seriously don't understand how this is supposed to improve my chances of watching.
Derek Dooley has a laptop bag with him. Maybe he checks Rocky Top Talk for suggestions.
Anyone think the young Tennessee team has a chance today vs Florida?
Probably better than they have the past few years. Still a tall order.
Tom Hammond always leans over like he's hiding a boner.
Takes a boner-hider to know a boner-hider, and I can tell you that the dude really loves him some ND football, or he's on a Viagra drip.
My primary games are MSU-ND and Northwestern-Army. With an eye on UT-UF and maybe Neb-UW.
How are people doing in the MGoBlog College Pick'em? Am I the only one who thought Auburn's luck would hold for one more week?
You too sparty.
Riddick taken off both returns. That makes a lot of sense. ND can't save Atkinson as they'll need if if there are any injuries to their rbs.
Florida just so much faster thatn Tennessee right now...
Why are ND's student shirts not one of their school colors?
What color are NDs jerseys?
ND is moving the ball with relative ease against Sparty. The question is: Will they turn it over when it matters most again?
Floyd just commited a crime on that play...
Why didn't Floyd go pro last year? He's so, so good.
Well that was easy for ND.
man I am glad we don't have to worry about ND anymore.
TD Notre Dame. They made it look pretty easy.
Sparty NO! 7-0 Notre Dame.
MSU is in trouble if ND doesn't turn the ball over.
Ive seen atleast 3 holds and no flag was thrown ...
even moreso when they keep showing D'ant on the sideline
Wow, huge bust by Nebraska coverage. UW an extra point away from tying.
Cousins terrible throw lucked out by defensive holding.
ND now also giving away turnovers...they are not turnover friendly
Nice hold to bail out Cousins. And the ND weekly foot-shoot begins...
Couzins bailed out on that play. Horrible decision
So many games that I want to watch are on right now. I feel overloaded right now.
Little Brother punts their first drive away.
Lil' bro's O-line getting bulldozed already. Boys are gonna be tired this afternoon.
Sparty is looking like they are in a big game = going to get blown out! Lovin' it so far...early, but lovin' it
Does anyone have a good stream fo the MSU/ND game? Stuck at work and I can't find a good one.
I haven't checked but nbcsports.com might have a legit stream. NBC is actually pretty good about online video.
Yep. The NBC stream is much better than the other one I had. Thanks and +1 to you sir!!
The beginning of this game is looking earily similar to the Michigan-ND game. ND scores, gets 3 and out, and is now driving down field with no trouble for another score.
Ok, so my conclusions so far from the MSU/ND game is that MSU will win with 2 seconds left after they figure out the Gary Gray still plays for ND.
Haha ND. They are really good at turning the ball over.
Yeah, this looks JUST LIKE last week.
I feel as if Arby's needs to start an apple turnover promotion with ND
Gholston a top DE in the B1G? Has he done anything to deserve that yet?
but he does look like he's going to be a player
TAKE NOTE BORGES: Counter running plays from the shotgun works against Sparty.
And ugh @ Rees with ANOTHER turnover.
This unbalanced formation MSU keeps trying to run has just been garbage
If Im MSU I would try to throw some quick passes to help negate their terrible oline. Cousins just got smacked and fumbled.
FUMBLLLLLEEEEEEE! ND ball.
Who did France think he should block on that fumble? He let 2-3 guys go.
MSU currently has -8 total yards.
Time to bring Crist back in. Rees's TOs are becoming embarassing.
reis is awful. time for the bench. go get 'em kelly!
Do ND's QBs know what color their team wears?
First he was a backup,
then he was a starter,
and now, Tommy Rees is...
A TURNOVER MACHINE!
It's 24 Int Comedy.
Tommy Rees is
THE TURNOVER MACHINE!
how many pts. off of turnovers has ND given up???
If you thought the Rees interception was pathetic, UW threw it right into Lavonte David's gut while they were driving.
Black is quite slimming on most humans, but it might just be asking too much on him.
Nebraska will be a really cool place to have road games in the future.
it's a great experience and a very tough place to play. I went to their opener last year and the year before, it's electric. (And not in the cliched sense, it really is exciting.)
Sparty's offense is pathetic. Remember Sparty fans saying Cousins was easily the best QB in the conference after the first two games?
Yeah I am definitley not seeing anything from Cousins. Even when he has time he hasnt looked good.
If there was fantasy football for college, I would always start whatever DEF is facing Notre Dame.
Notre Dame returns the KO. At least our coverage team hasn't done that yet.
Haha, somebody needs to teach their kicker some form tackling. Whiff
That was a great tackle attempt by MSU's kicker.
Glad ND didnt have thier return game figured out last week.
Can't throw a pick if you return the kickoff for a TD.
i am going to follow mike valenti on twitter today. could be classic. online rant?
Cousins tries the Denard technique. Throw it up at Gary Gray and see what happens.
and it totally worked. He just went to cunningham in what was almost exactly a replay of denard-roundtree. threw it short to the right side, cunningham adjusted to make the play in front of gray. even the announcer mentioned that it "looked familiar." ouch!
just chuck it high and deep against the ND DBs.
My question for when we play Sparty is this: Will they try and use the run game like now? Or will they try and test our secondary more like last year?
Cousins needs the run game in order to be effective. Stuff MSU's run, you stuff MSU.
Sparty is always going to try to run first. Cousins is good but vastly over-rated.
Looks like they watched the UTL game... most passes so far toward Gary Gay
It's hard to believe that Brian Kelley cant find a better CB then Gary Gray.
ND is very thin at CB.
Just need to look at the 2012 class for his replacement.
Abdullah just muffed a punt. UW recovers on the 23. Gallon has been doing a good job of fielding punts, even getting to the sideline to save yardage. The Abdullah punt was a line drive right to him.
that Lynch kid is just enormous for a true freshman
UCLA is looking lost. Wonder how long Rick Neuhisel has left at UCLA?
Whenever MSU isn't in a max protect scheme, Cousins has no chance.
he needs to learn the ref signals lol
Man, despite those turnovers, ND has the ability to just march down the field
92 yards in 10 plays and 5 minutes. Impressive
That's a TD. 21-7 ND
Touche salesman. My head isn't completely in the game right now.
It's 21-10. But Sparty is driving.
..... you'll hear the sound of Dantonio's agent faxing out his resume to every 0-2 division I program in the country....
That's bad if Burkland is seriously hurt. He's a proising right tackle and already decent enough.
Yeah it does not look good either. Hope the kid is ok.
It doesn't look to good, having to get carted off. God, I hate seeing serious injuries to kids. At least he has plenty of eligability left.
yikes, looks like Sparty loses their RT. wish him the best
MSU has their starting RT down and it looks pretty bad (ankle?). MSU can't have injuries there.
Looked like a couple players rolled into the back of his knee. Dont want to speculate but maybe ACL?
When he was carted off, he had his shoe off and his leg wasn't stabilized. I'm pretty sure it's his ankle. Hope he's okay.
#51, looks quite small
a hyperextension perhaps? Wish him well soon whatever it is.
Drink everytime they note that Cousins is a 5 year senior.
"Gary Gray deflects it incomplete"
Finish your liquor cabinet.
You gotta know Dantonio is thinking about it.
What a stupid call. You need the 3 anyway. Might as well kick it, take the points, and take the ball after halftime.
What is Sparty doing?? Everyone saw that coming.
The entire ND coaching staff should have been fired at halftime.
Dumtonio strikes again.
Awful play call by Dantanio. After last year of course they're looking fake. And with you getting the ball to start the 2nd half, take the three points to make it a one score game.
When even my wife is saying "hey, that was a dumb call. Why didn't MSU just kick it", you know you are in trouble. The MSU magic may just have run out for them after last year's magical run.
If you want to skip highlights, Minnesota-Miami is about to start the 3rd quarter. Man, Kill is one red dude.
Also, Army driving on Northwestern on CBSSN. Although, crowd is at least 40% NU fans.
The ball fell off the tee. Miami's (NTM) kicker kicked it anyway, and the refs blew it dead. I know they'll blow it dead if the kicker stops, but if he kicks it? I've never seen that before and wouldn't have guessed they'd kill the play.
I understand this isn't the most legimitmate thing in the world, but Steele thought Western, Toledo and Northern Illinois were the 3 best teams in the MAC. Wisky is up 35-7 against Northern early in the 3rd. That would compare favorably to Michigan's game against WMU and of course OSU's game against Toledo.
I am glad we dont have Wisconsin on the schedule this year. Russell Wilson has taken that offense to another level.
Is the jerel worthy hype dead yet?
Hopefully. That kind of came out of left field. Some thought he was a top 5 pick!
Didn't understand the hype on Worthy. Showed no motor, didn't show any burst or quickness. Bad hand usages.
This is hilarious. 28-10 ND.
To be fair, this is what Michigan would have gone through last week if ND wasn't so, uh, generous.
Wisconsin could be on our schedule. What about the Big Ten Championship game? Gotta believe.
Dantonio's trick plays aren't working that well today, eh?
Another Dantonio fail. He runs the wildcat, goes for nothing. Two plays later, he runs it again, loses 11 yards.
I recommend people follow along with this thread. Already 85 pages in, but worth the shits and giggles.
That is what the LiveBlogs look like when Michigan isn't manhandling the team they're playing. After the second drive, people were calling for Gardner to get in.
I give the mods so much credit when it comes to sifting through a typical liveblog. I saw people calling for Gardner as well, and it just seemed insane. Teams go up and down during a game, and sometimes you get pulled in to a per-play mindset.
ND is playing pissed off today. Everyone knew it would be that or please fire our coach now (again)
I didn't know who would win, but I definitely thought MSU would keep it close. If Notre Dame won, I thought it would be by a field goal.
I honestly thought they would be defeated. MSU just doesn't look that great outside of Cousins. Hell, ND is still behind in the TO margin. Why hasn't MSU figured out that Gary Gray still plays?
ND still has to play the 4th quarter...
MSU is averaging 1.1 yards per rush so far. Their Oline is very suspect.
Stay tuned. Kelly tends to get conservative when leading.
Tick. Tock. Tick. Tock.
The big difference is that MSU has nobody like Denard who can just take over the game. For as good as Cousins is as a pocket passer, he needs a good line to protect him. MSU's looks to be average at best, and so Cousins is going to be harassed all game.
Also, UM got really lucky last week that ND didn't find a way to convert a couple of their chances. They are playing much better this week, and it shows.
62 Yard TD pass for N'Western: They just tied Army at 14.
Why does ND shut down their offense as soon as the 4th quarter starts?
Wow. One helluva bounce on the ND punt.
TD Army. They now lead NW 21-14. Under 3 mins left in that one.
TD Army with 2:49 left.
Holy penalties, Batman!
like an anteater in a Hymenopteran-themed horror movie
There are no words. These turnovers are hilarious.
I was halfway into writing about the decision to punt with under 5 left, but ND went and did that.
Kelly is turning pink.
Can someone please photoshop kelly's face as a rainbow? in all his colors? Please?
MSU punts?! ND muffs it?! Does neither team want to win?
What was Cousins looking at? Even if the receiver ran the route well there are 2 ND defenders right infront of that slant.
Oh. My. Goodness.
Cousins picked, preserves ND victory
There. I think Notre Dame has it in hand now.
Hang on, ND might find a way to fumble while taking a knee.
Good point. I knew better as I was hitting "save".
This is some bad football in ND.
beaten... Tears of Infinite Sadness anyone?
The big TO finally goes to ND
Who else was yelling, "DON'T FUMBLE" on the interception? Geeze, Louise.
like an anteater in a Hymenopteran-themed horror movie
This is great. Screw MSU.
Army is in victory formation. 21-14.
Sparty No!! Riots imminent for EL. Hide ya couches ya'll!
MSU's only TD was when a ND defender completely fell down.
That was some poetic justice.
Notre Dame starts a cupcake run now. Expect the media to be kissing their asses until November.
Yep. And this is why I was pulling for MSU. Expect them to be ranked again after next week.
That kick was textbook perfect. I mean, that hit the seam in the middle of the net behind the goalposts.
seems my phone re-posts every time I refresh the page
is on pace for 52 turnovers for the year (assuming no more in the Michigan State game and no bowl). The record is 61 (USA Today College Football Encyclopedia). It's within reach!
BTW, Can someone tell me WTF Tony Banks (I think it's him on BTN) is wearing? What the heck is that?
I dunno. He looks like he belongs on Let's Make A Deal, straight out of 1973.
I do believe that's velvet and props to him for attempting to pull that off. Costanza would be proud.
Notre Dame says "please Dantonio, take this game! WE DONT WANT IT!!" Michigan State says "Oh, please sir, I disagree, please, take this game right back!"
In other news, SDSU is losing to Washington State 10-7.
Kirk Cousins is kind of overrated. And Sparty's LT sucks. Hopefully Roh or Black can exploit the hell out of him.
I disagree. He's not a game changer, but he's probably the most steadily solid QB in B1G right now. The key for ND is that they absolutely stuffed the run. MSU isn't going to win throwing the ball like 40 times a game.
Nebraska with a pick to put that on on ice.
51-38 final, it looks like.
