Nice call by the refs against ND. Love it.
Afternoon Games Open Thread
So....I see Brian Kelly has employed the go deep strategy against OU. Coaching genius right there
His face is already looking purple even tho he's not yelling
That one is over.
I would not say that. Oklahoma is not like Alabama. This could still be a game.
LOL Turnover Tommy LOL.
If you want a good laugh, read this game thread at a ND site. http://www.irishenvy.com/forums/notre-dame-game-day/109844-sep-28-oklahoma-102.html
It's really surprising to hear NBC announcers actually calling the game as it is instead of doing nothing but kissing Irish ass. This and especially last week where they actually point out when the refs are giving favorable calls to ND. We didn't have this from 1990 until now.
They just compared Tommy Rees to Peyton Manning. I guess that's a fair comparison (says no one who knows anything about football).
Has finally come out!
Also: Minnesota and Iowa play for one of the greatest trophies ever (Floyd of Rosedale).
Why Minnesota insists on its "pajama" look (all maroon) is beyond me. Their color scheme isn't the best, but when they had a maroon jersey and gold pants, under Mason, it looked decent.
Don't you know your not suppose to wear white after labor day.
And Buffalo only has 1 TOTAL YARD.
Wait a sec...you're surprised that UCONN is poop the week after Michigan. I fully expectted that.
their annual egg against an also-ran? Semi, No!(les)
Irish score. Hopefully keep this thing interesting.
I think we want ND to do well.
Shit. Sooners need to respond with a big TD drive.
I dont trust OK to hold the lead. I think ND will eventually win this.
I think FSU is about to have its annual choke game.
I trusted Clemson more as the team to beat in the ACC anyway.
Bad throw by Bell. The receiver was open.
Electric music at ND stadium sounds so dumb.
BC driving again. On the FSU 17
Jabrill Peppers is playing
BK actually calling run plays. Shit.
Only been half a quarter and Jabril Peppers has 3 WOW plays. Starts at CB from Day One at Michigan. Bank that.
— Bill Greene (@BillBankGreene) September 28, 2013
He's Back. Peppers with a sweet catch for a TD. Paramus Catholic extends lead to 30-10.
— Bill Greene (@BillBankGreene) September 28, 2013
Bring in hendricks on 3rd and 2, I wonder if it will be a read option?
Oklahoma needs to keep attacking the edge.
Hearing the "Right here, right now" at ND Stadium is . . . weird.
Great conservative play calling Stoops.
Ugh, Akron is now down 17-14, and UConn 28-6. UConn has actually outgained Buffalo but has two turnovers.
I don't understand that. Why don't they just go with a dive instead of some stretch play.
Come on Oklahoma D.
so i feel as field goal kicking has gotten worse in college football over the last few years. i have no evidence to back this up, just from watching a lot of game. is it possible that this is due to the uptick in soccer popularity in the US. or am i just crazy and this is more confirmation bias?
I don't think it has gotten worse, just the opposite. Kickers were really bad 20-30 years ago. FSU lost to Miami two years in a row in the '90s when their kicker missed from about 35 yards out both years.
Now most starters are making at least 70% of their kicks. I think the growth of soccer if anything is helping placekicking, because almost everyone kicks soccer-style now instead of the old straight-ahead method. We do see teams attempt more really long (50+) FGs nowadays, whereas in years past they'd pooch punt. That may make it look like kickers are worse, since they're going to miss a lot of those. But inside 40 yards, most kickers are almost automatic.
getting shelled by buffalo...
Rees int!! Oklahoma needs to do something here.
The St. Ignatius QB is having a game very similar to Tommy Rees
BC punts from the FSU 40 yard line with 5 min left in the half. Touchback. On 3rd and 11 they threw a 15 yard pass instead of trying to set up a short yardage 4th down or making it with a catch and run.
Iowa up 17-0 on Minnesota. The Gophers aren't showing anything on offense and just gave up a 50+ yard TD on a flanker screen.
Don't understand the play calling by Oklahoma.
Damnit. Watching OU with a QB who cannot throw just rip down the field with bubbles...just why the hell can't we even attempt this sometimes?
We'd rather just rip throw ND's secondary with Gallon getting open every play....like we did...3 weeks ago.
Nice throw by Bell.
Minnesota looks putrid on offense. 80 total yards at the half against Iowa.
I'm betting FSU gets at least a FG before the half. BC coaching staff really blew it.
I meant a TD, they'd get a TD. Holy shit is BC's D lame. I take back the comment about the coaches.
If Greg Davis' Iowa offense can muster 229 yards in the first half, I'll be severely disappointed if we don't blow the doors off of Minnesota next weekend.
Third time is a charm.
because we're Michigan. . .
Very nice drive to end the half for Georgia. God I like Aaron Murray a lot.
Also, nice to see their "pro-style" offense get to the damn line in a hurry and are able to audible and check in to/out of plays with 16 seconds on the play clock. It can be done.
Annnnd it appears none of you are watching this game...
left. Is that a good thing?
EDIT: And. . . Connecticut being turned into a Sunday morning schmear in the back bagel pages of the Hartford Courant by. . . Buffalo.
Akron was up 14-3 almost through the 2nd Q.
What is up with the play calling by Oklahoma on short yardage?
Oklahoma you suck.
ND rips off a big run for a TD. Right back in it.
Shows how impressive it is that michigan hasn't givin up a rushing td yet.
I have watched ND for three weeks in a row now and I have no idea why brian kelly ever throws the ball. They are a great running team but he goes away from it almost immediately every game.
BC secondary is plain horrible.
Oklahoma can't settle for a FG. They need a TD.
Holy shit!! That Bell play has not worked. Stop trying to run it!
Field is coming up in chunks in the ND game.
That's what the field looked like at the big house before we switched to field turf in 2003.
Anyone else really conflicted about who to root for in the ND game? OU losing means a team ranked above Michigan will probably drop, and ND winning makes our win against ND look better. But... I want ND to lose in an embarrassing fashion always.
Hurry up and post or we're all gonna die....or something...Or is this your plan Lucifer?
Now I can never post again. Wait. Dammit.
Think of it as a win/win no matter the outcome.
Hope they lose every game.
I love that CokeZero comercial. And not just b/c it is more compelling than most of the football on right now.
Bell goes down. This does not look good. More luck of the Irish.
I just came home from the cider mill and decided to watch Florida State vs. Boston College for some reason.
I take it from the hype that Jameis Winston's passer rating is still over 200? Looking at the box score, I also see that Florida State is coming up on 400 yards of offense here, whereas BC has barely 200 yards.
Eek, Freshman mistake by Rudock. Minnesota hanging by a thread and make a play they depserately needed. Now wtf can they do with it? Answers after the break!
Yeesh, NDs defense is not quite like last years
You are killing me Bob Stoops.
Awful tackling by Oklahoma.
Kelly is such a prick. Just saying.
Dose not seem as crazy today. Maybe he was forced to take a Xanax before the game. But he is still a prick.
Agreed. No huge outbursts caught on camera, but rather a constant simmering assholity
SEC DB's seem so highly rated b/c the refs never call even obvious PI.
But...Karma on the punt fumble!
God damn I don't mean to star a bitch fest about Borges or any of that but it's a bit depressing watching all these other teams, no matter their record or how good they are or who they're playing, run the ball effectively. Obviously they all don't do it all the time but every game I've watched today (at least bits of all of the televised ones) has shown successful running plays, the point being, something we've done little of. Hope it's getting fixed this weekend and next week.
Really Oklahoma?! What the hell!
This announcer's lisp is killing me
Georgia back on top. TD thow by Murray. Turnovers are killer.
What happened to SEC defense?
The NFL draft
That last field goal is going to haunt Oklahoma. They really needed a TD there.
Killer defense there ND.
TD Oklahoma! Time to play some D!
Eat shit, Notre Dame.
Dang. LSU throws right into triple coverage. What a throw.
Stopping booing ND fans. That was clearly helmet to helmet.
#30 with targeting for ND, gives Oklahoma a first down on what was 3rd and 3.
And that is why they are ejecting people for targetting. Cheap shot by the ND DB.
I don't see how that's a cheap shot. Helmet to helmet yes but not a cheap shot.
He lowered his helmet to nail Clay in the head, That is the very definition of reason that rule is in place.
God I hate that rule
There are definitely going to be instances where the targeting rule is misapplied, but that isn't one. Dude clearly could've pulled up, but brought his helmet directly in the path of the receiver's head.
Damnit, Treadwell would have been so useful this year.
I thought that the first time I saw him this year.
Nelson throws 2 picks. Let's hope that team shows up next Sat. In Ann Arbor. Is iowa's defense really that good?
No but yes. I think Iowa is definitely not as bad as I was/we all were expecting them to be, and that's as an all-around team. Back to defense, they are stout as shit up front and their linebacking corps is experienced as all hell. I predict our RBs will not run much against them, though I guess that's not a very bold statement at this juncture.
30 rushing yards on the box score.
3.2 yards per play.
Our opponents are the all-singing, all-dancing crap of the world.
It's been a good back and forth affair by two good offenses. And I am so bummed we didn't get Treadwell. Guy is a stud.
I wish Tommy Rees had more eligibility.
Minn. game doesn't look like it will be too dificult next week but the game in Iowa City won't be as easy as it seemed a couple weeks ago.
Ferentz's Iowa teams usually start slowly and then get better as the year goes on. That one could definitely be a trap game, given its placement on the schedule.
Well Notre Dame is about done I'd say
Has Brian Kelly called a running play all 4th quarter? I know they're down 2 TDs but you can't get totally one-dimensional.
That's what a loud crowd will do. I wish everyone in Michigan Stadium would understand that concept.
Another 3rd down conversion for LSU. 2 great pickups by them this game.
Did they just score too soon? What a drive.
Same play again. LSU takes the lead.
Fugggg...LSU up 4
3rd and 23 inside own 15, man oh man.
Mark Richt about to lose another big game?
Does a bear shit in the woods?
UGA DB's suck it big time. They might be worse than BC's.
But wait, this high scoring game is only evidence that the SEC is the best EVAR.
Good offenses can never trump good defenses? I'm not an SEC homer, it all annoys me as much as the next Midwest guy, but, I think it's a bit naive to think the SEC is so overrated.'
Edit: Sorry, I may have misinterpreted/misread what you meant but part of my point still stands I think, regardless.
Real windy and rainy
I'm in Portland and it's the same storm coming through. Pretty good clip on the sustained wind with gusts really jumping around. Gonna be crazy by the water in Seattle.
Tricky Ole Miss running that damn Vincet Smith play
Pass by treadwell. I have to admit I lol'd.
Wow. What a play from Keith Price.
Damn that HOLE...
Boom. GAWGA. Yessir
I hope they didn't score too early
Did UGA score too quickly? All LSU needs is a FG to tie.
of Georgia's RB Depth.
Did Georgia score too soon? lol crazy game
Crazy game. The last drive should be good.
Georgia scored too fast considering the way they are playing defense.
Well so much for defense in the SEC.
Too much time though for LSU with the cushion these teams are giving.
Awful defense by LSU
Mettenberger has had his way with the the UGA DB's. I think he could put in a TD.
Wash. DB Sean Parker with a pick that sets up a TD
84! A WR* just sacked the shit out of Mettenberger
*I get that he's not really a WR
2 NFL recievers (and 4 really shitty DB's)
No laundry for Landry
Are those helmets gold or some kind of chrome?
I think they were both no calls...and not even close.
Dawgs! Nice stand. That's what good pressure does, even though they weren't really all that close to a sack.
Shit. Georgia wins. Pretty impressive pass rush by Georgia to win it.
Well Mettenberger wanted a shot at Georgia and he got it.
Josh Harvey-Clemons is a huge strong safety. 6-5, 215.
Now we need LSU to beat Bama and then for two of the conferences to have undefeated champions.
Chaos and bedlam for the last BCS year.
Awesome game in Athens but based on this game and the A&M - Bama game what happened to all that SEE EEE CEEEE defense? It's like the Big 12 out there.
This Georgia win is great for keeping the SEC down. LSU has a shot to beat Bama, which would leave us with a lot of SEC teams with at least 1 loss. If that happens I predict we'll see Clemson vs a Oregon or Standfor in the championship and there will be much rejoicing.
One can only hope. Clemson will probably pull a Clemson and biff a game they should win. I wouldn't doubt a one-loss LSU, Georgia, or Alabama getting into the NCG over an undefeated Louisville or FSU.
I've got a feeling that unless every SEC team has at least two losses, the voters are going to give the SEC the benefit of the doubt and let at least one team in.
Not that the conference hasn't deserved it. Still, I'd rather see the SEC's streak continue over OSU sneaking into the game. Not that I'm expecting that with their extremely god-awful SOS.
I absolutely hate the questions that sideline reporters ask.
They all ask the same question, just worded differently.
Hopefully all the SEC teams end up with at least 1 loss. It's basically a foregone conclusion that one SEC team will make the NCG, but having 2 of them in there would really piss me off.
Every SEC team besides Alabama has a loss now.
