Regardless of how much lipstick ESPN puts on this pig, Illinois - NW is not going to be a good gam and Wrigley is not a good place for a game.
Afternoon College Football Thread
the mad hatter down here.
Moving down the field pretty nicely on first drive. Surprised this is only Stanzi's first start against Ohio State.
Pam WArd doing the VT game.
Those Miami Hurricane uni's are horrible.
looks like a douche in that jacket.
TD Anti-Hippie Quarterback
TD Iowa... Stanzi to McNutt
So ESPN tries to milk the Wrigley games for all it's worth and then goes ahead and puts it on the network (ESPNU) that most basic cable packages don't have. Go figure.
I would be livid if I had seats in the "wall" endzone. Crazy rage.
Wonder how much they got milked for those "prime" seats
To be fair, if the game I voluntarily signed up to watch in Wrigley is a mediocre Illinois team battling a QB-less NW team, I probably deserve to be gouged.
Still needs to be said: Millen is an idiot.
I hope the OSU-IOWA game goes 6 OT's and everyone is beat to shit after the game.
Nice pick by Iowa
Unreal pick. Iowa. Wow. Big Nut pissed.
Thats was incredible.
HOLY SH*T... Did you see that Iowa interception by Hyde?
Millen just said "The Big Nut [Tressel] is not too pleased with that one [Pryor interception]." Big Nut. Word.
I know he broke the single season QB rushing record... what was the other?
The ESPN announcer said he broke a couple big records.
The one mentioned on ESPN.com was the 1500/1500 club, but that sorta comes with the territory. Not exactly a separate record.
Continuing with the Millen groaners... he just cracked a "Boren" identity joke. Ouch. Thankfully the play by play guy gave him a bunch of crap about it.
Pryor still runs like a huge girl.
OSU takes teh lead :(
The ol' Pryor "I'm injured but will lead my team back" non-injury. Played.
They zoomed in to a disappointed OSU fan at some point and he had a line of fake OSU tattoos in a line on his second chin. I shrieked in horror.
Tied up at 10.
Pryor is picked!
Just keep hitting Pryor. Hard.
OSU buries a 48-yard FG, sitll down 17-13 with 7:38 to play. We'll see if Pryor has any comeback left in him if he can get the ball back down 1 score.
I hope we never play Northwesterner at Wrigley. The facilities and logistics of that place are a joke.
Iowa's gonna give up the game winning TD here. Their D has folded in the 4th in all the close games.
They did just give it up, but Posey dropped it. Looks as if OSU will get it anyway, and with less time left on the clock for Iowa.
WOW. That is funny
Thought that would be the TD Iowa would give up in the 4th
Brutus' reaction was the best after the Posey drop
Posey hates TD's.
He hates TD's what?
That 4th down was pitiful. It's like Iowa doesn't want it.
But I wouldn't mind if the only way State can get to the Rose Bowl is by us beating OSU.
1st and goal OSU
Sanzenbacher bailed Pryor out there.
EDIT: Did you edit that fast or did I misread?
That is not a catch
His foot never touched. Should've overturned it
Not "firm" control but not enough to overturn. This isn't the SEC trying to protect their best team.
Good call. If that were Michigan, I would be furious if that were overturned.
I wonder if Iowa blogs are still disputing how lucky they were last year.
Depending on how the last 1:47 goes...
True that. I'd love to see Iowa break OSU hearts but this year they've blown the close ones.
or are the rest of you really, really sick of seeing the fat, face painted, buckeye necklace fan?
His name is Big Nut. He is not my favorite.
Good return. Only need a FG to tie it up.
So it's ok to tackle a receiver before the ball getting there. OK good to know
And go for the head.
Wow. Dirty as hell.
Wow. That was egregious. And uncalled. Looked like both a PI and spearing
Iowa deserves a big time makeup call.
Nah. Those refs are hippies and are pissed at Stanzi's comments.
How can Ferntz not be reaming out a ref right now?
That was a dumb play. Why have a route short of the first?
actually root for Michigan next week? I recall last time a tOSU loss was in their interests, most I knew still rooted against Michigan. Wouldn't want to lose their identity, after all.
Illinois' win means Michigan has defeated a bowl-bound team. Nice? If UConn and ND win another game this year, it means we've beaten three.
I hate Gary Danielson so much. LSU is losing to 4-6 Mississippi because they are giving up 38 points at home to the 43rd ranked offense. Danielson somehow uses this to say how the SEC is so much better than anyone else and that a 1 loss SEC team (LSU or Auburn) should play in the MNC game over TCU/Boise.
Mississippi is fucking terrible. They lost to Jacksonville State and gave up 49 points. They lost to 2-8 Vanderbilt. They lost to 4-6 Tennesse 52-14. The Vols had a previous SEC high 17 points.
Fuck Gary Danielson.
When Ohio State loses to Purdue it shows that the Big Ten is having a down year and Ohio State is flawed. When LSU loses to Mississippi it shows the strength of the SEC. Give me a break.
LSU shouldn't be ranked ahead of Boise State and TCU. Sure LSU has better wins but they have a L to their credit.
Iowa is a good football team. They stomped a team that may win a share of the Big Ten Title and go to the Rose Bowl, and lost heartbreakers at home to two other teams in the same boat.
But they also lost on the road to the 4th place team in the Pac Ten, an Arizona team that has a nearly identical record to the Hawkeyes. And yet the general perception is that the Big Ten is right behind the SEC or right behind the Big XII as the 2nd or 3rd best conference in the land, and the Pac 10 has Oregon, maybe Stanford, and the 8 dwarfs. Before that it was USC and the 9 dwarfs. Despite not having a team in the top 5, the Big Ten has more respect than the Pac 10.
So it goes both ways
loses to Bama, wouldn't they have to fall behind LSU? Just based on how poll voters typically do things? They're not going to fall only 2 spots.
So, other than Oregon, the top ranked BCS conference alternative to TCU/BSU would be a 1-loss LSU team who is NOT playing in their conference CG and effectively lost to Tennessee, and maybe others.
They couldn't POSSIBLY let such a team into the National Championship over undefeated TCU and BSU.....could they?!
Maybe voters would jump Auburn back over LSU if they win the CCG.
Jordan Jefferson is so patient on his runs.
Miles played those last minutes just right. He didn't panic, and allowed his O to eat up the clock. It worked out for them.
Situation: trailing by three points, Iowa is facing 4th and 21 with around 1:10 to go after Stanzi is sacked, at about its own 20. They have all three timeouts. At that point, what is more likely: converting a 4th and 21 against OSU's defense or getting a stop and the ball back? Sure, no one likes to punt, but that's playing the percentages. Ferentz didn't do that. He went for it - and even worse, he called timeout before the fourth-down play, leaving him with only two left after his offense, predictably, turned it over on downs. OSU, taking over in Iowa territory, was then able to run the clock down to nine seconds before going for it on 4th down (and converting). Had Iowa punted, and OSU called the same three plays, there would have been around 50 seconds left before 4th down, and Tressel likely wouldn't have dared go for it in his own territory.
