Adrian Witty Eligibility Question

Submitted by mcfors on
I read somewhere that Adrian Witty is retaking classes and hopes to enroll in January...if that happens, does this season count as a redshirt season? Or could he redshirt in 2010, anyway? And which recruiting class would he count towards? 2009 or 2010? I'm confused about the whole situation.

No this would not count as a redshirt since he is not on the team. He could redshirt in 2010 He can count towards either class if they have scholarships available.

Thanks. According to ZoneReadStretch, for those who don't feel like clicking the link: "This rule has recently changed. Using Adrian Witty as an example, the old rule allowed his scholarship to be applied to the 2009 class if he enrolled early in the 2010 class as most feel will happen, but this rule as recently changed not allowing his scholarship to be applied to the 2009 class, thus his scholarship would count against the 2010 number which allows us to sign up to 28 kids, but by enrolling day (June) that number has to be down to 25 in a given class."

a player cant extend his eligibility by not being on scholarship greyshirt has to do with enrollment. so a player either enrolls in january or enrolls and takes under 12 credits (thus not being a fulltime student)

so no question of red-shirt here (that would be like red-shirting DG this year). If he enrolls in Jan, we have the OPTION of counting him towards wither the 2009 or 2010 class.

they will count as many of the 2010 early enrollee recruits as possible towards last year's limit of 25 per year (should be about 3 or 4 spots if my memory serves me correct). he may or may not be one of these (doesn't really matter). the rest will count towards the normal 2010 recruiting limit of 25 per yr. he will be able to redshirt in 2010 like any other recruit coming in. short answer, treat him as a 2010 recruit.

I have herd very good things about witty from his friend cassius mcDowell, he is working out everyday and is very focused on school. Lets hope this is true.

Well, we all know that if you're going to trust anyone about a kid's potential to contribute immediately on the FBS level, it's that guy's best friend who's a senior in high school.

its not like hes taking junior college courses or anything, just trying to sharpen up that high school diploma. he would probably be treated much like a mormon recruit that took a mission for a year or two after graduating high school.
