Adreian Payne is alright in my book

I've never really known much about Adreian Payne off the court.  I never really cared to know.  Today, I stumbled upon this article about Adreian and his relationship with a young girl battling cancer.

http://www.freep.com/article/20140305/SPORTS07/303050143/

The 8-year-old from St. Johns will take a break from battling for her life to accompany Michigan State’s Adreian Payne for his senior day ceremony after the MSU-Iowa basketball game.

The article mostly centers around the amazing attitude with which she fights cancer.

When she goes to a game or dances or does something else outside of the hospital, Lacey often will tweet about it and add the hashtag #kissitcancer.

She kept building a bond with Payne, who has become like an adopted son to the Holsworths – Matt, Heather, Lacey, William (14), Mitchell (12) and Luke (6). She regained her ability to walk, returned to dancing and appeared to be past the disease in the fall.

But it came back in November and Lacey is now in the midst of 10 days of radiation treatments for spots on her jaw and neck. Chemotherapy was not working. She has another spot in her pelvic region, and the family hopes upcoming antibody therapy at U-M Hospital in Ann Arbor will “attack the cancer cells and build the immune system,” (her father) Matt said.

The article also mentions a fundraiser on Monday at the Buffalo Wild Wings in East Lansing.  If you find yourself in that neck of the woods on Monday, I encourage you to stop in and support this cause.

My prayres go out to Lacey and the whole Holsworth family.

Adreian, you may not be such a bad guy after all.

him and applying could get convicted of rape basically. not like jail time stuff but like gibbons. I remember the summer that happened it was spreading all over campus (I live 15 min from EL and was 22 at the time spending a lot of time at the bars).

Maybe it's because both are really good and the basketball fan in me enjoys watching them play (against other teams).

I certainly have never disliked them the way I despised players like Draymond Green and Derrick Nix.  Excessive trash talk, arrogance, and a style of play I hated.  Without B1G rules, Green and Nix were average players.  Payne will be a better pro because he doesn't just rely on being physical.  He can jump out of the gym, he can dribble, he can shoot the lights out.

I love watching the Golden State Warriors play but anytime Green steps on the floor I root for him to perform poorly.

My feelings on State on here aren't too positive, but I've always respected Payne. Great to hear about this from him.

i think they featured this during march madness last year. they do alot of those types of stories, but this one in particular was heart wrenching. she's the cutest girl with an amazingly positive outlook.

as i get older and turn into a softy, i appreciate hearing about athletes that use their celebrity for good. and the contrary is part of why i lose more interest in the nfl every year.

and come march madness, we'll hear about how so many schools have stories similar to this. the ncaa's are far from perfect, but when you hear these stories you know at least some of it is working right.
