Adolphus Washington to TSIO- DwayneStanford to Oregon
November 22nd, 2011 at 10:21 AM ^
Pretty surprising TSIO couldn't pull both, sign of the hard times at tsio. Pretty good break for the good guys though, that would've been a good haul for the tsio to get both.

I don't think OSU was recruiting Stanford very hard (or at all). Frankly, I am surprised that Oregon would take him.
November 22nd, 2011 at 11:15 AM ^
Oregon's receivers typically don't strike fear into anyone's hearts. I think they're happy to take anyone who wants to go play receiver up there. If nothing else, I think we're establishing that Chip has decided to be a burr in Mich/Ohio St.'s saddles for now(Dior Mathis, Jake Fisher, Pharoah Brown, and now Dwayne Stanford) and Oregon isn't going away anytime soon.
November 22nd, 2011 at 12:30 PM ^
I read twice today (from different sources) in articles about Michigan football that Pharoah Brown either decommitted or is not listed as a committed recruit.
Anyone have any info to clarify or reject this statement/rumor?
[edit:] My apologies. I see the comment I'm replying to grouped P. Brown with other prospects Michigan didn't lock down. My question is answered.

for the immediate future. That one still stings :(

Since he currently has no affiliation with the school, can he call Adolphus Washington as many times as he wants and say, "I'm coming next year, I want you on board."
Isn't that exactly what Bob Huggins did when he knew he had the KSU job, and he got Beasley and Bill Walker to go with him?

What are the rules of fans believing things before they see it? Still to just run with the latest buzz after seeing what happened with Harbaugh and Miles here? Mmmm-kaaay.
November 22nd, 2011 at 12:27 PM ^
Miles and Harbaugh were still coaching at other schools, not working in the booth for ESPN.
Not to mention, Urban Meyer's comments might as well scream "I'm coaching at Ohio State next year" with a goddamn megaphone. Plus I don't think elevenwarriors as one of the premier blogs for a huge fan base, would completely put their credibility on the line like this unless they were crystal clear on their sources.

being a package deal and going to the same school.

Sorry for 3x post.

being a package deal and going to the same school.

Not surprising. Best of luck to both of them.
November 22nd, 2011 at 10:24 AM ^
Not shooting the messenger, I know they were once considered prospects...but at this point.
"Meh" is all I can come up with.
Washington was supposed to go to Ohio months ago and Stanford has fallen down every board and recruiting ranking in the country.
On-on to the next one...
November 22nd, 2011 at 10:24 AM ^
Wish it was Stanford to OSU and Washington to Oregon.
November 22nd, 2011 at 10:55 AM ^
Heck personally i'd rather keep the top talent from the midwest in the B1G. Would'nt you rather see good football games than the crap teams that most of the B1G put on the field this year?
November 22nd, 2011 at 11:33 AM ^
I wish it was Colorado to WSU and Arizona to Cal. ...Wait, what?

I have wondered how good Washington is. I mean obviously is is VERY good, he had something like 30 sacks this year. But does anyone know about the league that Taft plays in? A lot of his highlight tape looks like him bull rushing toddlers. I'm not trying to bash the kid because he's going to Ohio, his numbers just seem strange... Any insight from a person in that area would be much appreciated.
November 22nd, 2011 at 10:40 AM ^
Washington is considered the best prospect in Ohio by many scouting services. He will be a real pain in the a** for UM. I was really hoping he would pull a surprise and commit to a non-B1G team.
November 22nd, 2011 at 11:20 AM ^
I think Washington has 33 sacks on the year.
Anyway, Taft doesn't play in a very tough league. All the powerhouse schools in that area are in other conferences.
November 22nd, 2011 at 12:18 PM ^
Taft is a Division III school (Ohio has 6, with D1 the largest). They went 7-3 and just made the playoffs, ranking 8th out of 30 in their region; they lost their first playoff game to Springfield Shawnee 64-8.
Their conference consists of City of Cincinnati public schools and it's pretty weak since most of the city's talent is siphoned off to the catholic schools. The league went 8-20 OOC overall; no one other than Taft made the playoffs. In fact, none of Taft's 10 opponents made the playoffs (about a quarter of Ohio high schools do)--they might very well be the only school in the area not to have played a playoff qualifier in the regular season.
To be honest, I was surprised when I first found out Washington was a football and not a basketball prospect. Taft hoops was 25-1 and state champions last year, and he was a big reason; I had never paid any attention whatsoever to Taft football until I found out he and Stanford were prospects.
November 22nd, 2011 at 12:28 PM ^
And just to be clear, I'm not saying he can't play--just that the all-star games will give a better read on him than we can get from his highlight reel. "Bull rushing toddlers" was pretty much on point.
November 22nd, 2011 at 10:25 AM ^
Good riddance...

Is not OT.
November 22nd, 2011 at 10:31 AM ^
It is when both of these guys haven't been considered realistic targets for months now.
November 22nd, 2011 at 10:30 AM ^
AW was a beast in the televised HS game earlier this year. Battles between he and Magnuson, Braden, et al, should be epic along the lines of Long/Gholston. As they should be
November 22nd, 2011 at 10:35 AM ^
Can anyone name a recent case of two high profile recruits saying they were a "package deal" and then actually following through on it? I feel like we hear this several times a year and it never happens.
November 22nd, 2011 at 10:44 AM ^
when Miami got like 7 players from the same school including Jacory Harris
November 22nd, 2011 at 10:51 AM ^
Umm.... Dee Hart and Ha-Ha.....
November 22nd, 2011 at 11:25 AM ^
True, but their actual plan was to attend different schools. Dee Hart settled on Bama when RR got canned. Still counts, though.
November 22nd, 2011 at 11:10 AM ^
Good luck fellas. Stanford may you win the Pac 12 4 years in a row and get demolished by MICH in the Rose Bowl 4 years in a row. Washington, you're a young guy, we all make bad decisions.
EDIT: Jesus I can't construct a proper sentence this morning. Please forgive me.
November 22nd, 2011 at 11:09 AM ^
Scout dropped Stanford to a 3-star. Shocked to see that. I thought he was a solid 4-star to all sites
Washington is a 5-star on Scout
November 22nd, 2011 at 11:10 AM ^
So, out of the bevy of elite DE's coming out of Ohio in this class, TSIO has landed 1. I think the only one left is Odenigbo and I'm not sure where he stands. They must hate seeing that much in-state talent leaving. The Big Ten schools (not just UM) have really benefited from the OSU chaos.

“It’s the education part,” Washington continued. “I know all these schools athletically can offer me the same thing. The academic support at Ohio State, there is no way you can fail. Even if you’re giving minimal effort there is no way you can fail.”
November 22nd, 2011 at 11:30 AM ^
Even if you're giving minimum effort, you can't fail?
Sooo....as long as I show up to class for role, I pass. It took effort to get out of bed. Honor Roll, here I come!
November 22nd, 2011 at 12:44 PM ^
that sentence, is as telling as it gets, for Ohio State.
November 22nd, 2011 at 2:23 PM ^
I don't want anyone on our team whose academic standards are, "Even if you're giving minimal effort there is no way you can fail." That responses seems prompted by this question, "How little do I need to do in order to stay eligible."

"Washington said he expects to play early and he believes he will be playing for Urban Meyer."
"He plans to study nursing at Ohio State."
November 22nd, 2011 at 12:07 PM ^
There are UM players who ar studying to be nurses, a very noble and worthwhile profession. Much better than being a general studies major in my opinion, the field is growing and there will always be jobs. Plus, with a football player's size, he could be a great nurse for doing some of the more physical labor. Really, it's a great major for a football player.
