"They're doing their due diligence, as we would expect. It went well, and we really like the direction Jim has Michigan going. We have a sense of Jim's vision, which is exciting."

but a new "interim" AD could have taken the easy road and just renewed. He also sent out a survey to all the athletes, spoke with other AD's from other universities, and spoke to several coaches. IMO, that is someone looking for the best deal as you suggest or proactively looking for a change.

I'm surprised Adidas isn't just pulling out of the NCAAF market all together. Didn't they lose ND and Tennessee recently? I guess signing Miami(YTM) and UM again would keep them afloat in the market.

Either they do a revamp of the football department or they should just stick to soccer. Their soccer jerseys are on point.

I don't know of any schools who have a mixed bag of apparel sponsors. If Adidas simply steps out of the NCAAF, they're losing their entire college market.

Let's not forget, the Adidas/UA/Nike decision isn't just about football. It affects EVERY sport in the school.

Again, I don't know of any teams who are (for example) Nike in football and basketball and then Adidas in soccer and hockey.

So if Adidas decided to strictly stick to soccer, they would lose their endorsement deals with every college. Which would cost a lot of money.

I see. They were Nike in football and Adidas in basketball (which doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me).

But it seems that the apparel companies hold a lot of leverage in these situations. At Oklahoma for example, I've read that as a part of their deal with Nike, they have to have the swoosh appear on their equipment truck, coaches and administrators have to wear Nike gear on the field and at events, and even the administrations have to use Nike golf equipment if they are golfing with boosters.

I'm sure they can determine whether they outfit the entire athletic department or not. If I'm Adidas, I'm not going to pay Michigan what I'm paying them to outfit the hockey team and the soccer team. But if they back out of football altogether, they're losing a HUGE market.

The survey Hackett sent out probably had most of the student athletes favor Nike. If Hackett revealed the survey results to Adidas and they are still confident, that's a different story.

I'm neutral on Adidas. I'd have a preference for Nike. I will be disappointed if we end up with Under Armour.

Adidas people pretty much, OF COURSE they're going to say they think Michigan will continue with them.  I wouldn't necessarily be that positive about it if I were them.  Personally, I don't care that much.  I'm not very picky at all about logo gear, as far as the manufacturer goes.  I am glad they fixed that awful highlighter yellow color issue though.  That was butt-ugly.

"There is nothing to see. Other than the new legacy uniforms we will be unveiling. Which Michigan will wear anew each week. They're all about those stripes, no swooshes."

I'm not sure which topic is more exciting to me-Adidas v Nike or "I've got toe fungus, can somebody recommend a good topical cream for immediate short-term relief"

I expected them to say-

"sigh........no, we lost them to Nike. The writing is obviously on the wall since most of their athletes want Nike and 97% of their fans want Nike"

Well what did you expect them to say? It went horribly, guess that's another client off the list?

Adidas is going to keep spouting that it's all going well until there's an actual result. I'd expect Nike to do the same.

Both Nike and Adidas should feel confident, Jim isn't just going to walk into Adidas and make them feel like they aren't "in it".
