Adding variations off the read option???

Submitted by goody on
I like how each week we see little variations off of the read option. With this week it looks as if Tate is reading the CB on the read option and has the choice to hand it off or throw a seam to the WR. They have ran this play a few times and has work great because that CB is crashing as soon as he sees the run. Or I might just be getting excited over a quick play action pass. Either way it's working and I like it.

Not sure if anyone could stand to watch more college football after the Michigan game, but if you saw the USC-Oregon game, you saw the read-option clinic that Masoli put on. It seems like Oregon has so many read option/veer type plays. Reading the end, inside defensive tackles, etc. I also like how Oregon's shotgun handoffs are all sort of up the middle so the running back is running downhill at the point of attack instead of east/west. After the handoff, Masoli then does the quick pivot to the outside and either runs or throws the bubble like we do. Seems like Minor would have a lot of success running these kinds of shotgun running plays. Oregon's shotgun spread is intriguing - maybe it's just because Masoli was a beast running it today. Crazier ballfakes than Juice.
