Adam Stenavich to Northern Arizona as OL coach
Per the Arizona Daily Sun (link), Adam Stenavich is leaving his current position as Michigan Offensive Graduate Assistant Coach to join Northern Arizona University as the OL coach. You may also remember Stenavich as the starting LT for the Wolverines for 3+ years (2001-2005). MGoBlue bio: http://www.mgoblue.com/sports/m-footbl/mtt/adam_stenavich_804045.html
Hoke coaching tree in action!

Can only be happy for the guy. I wish they were a more visible program but that will come in time. Would love to see what he is able to do leading the O-line and what results he can produce.

i hope he ignores whatever funk taught him.

In defense of the anti-Funk argument, I think most OL coaches would've come in and had 3 consecutive B1G OL of the year. Molk was a senior and already awesome, Lewan was a Jr and Sr and very awesome. It's hard to give Funk much credit for any of those 3

At the same time, it seems like a reasonable observation to point out that Pat Kugler's dad, a former NFL O Line coach, must have approved of the job Funk was doing. That has to count for something.

That's fair, but if we're saying "Molk and Lewan would have been great no matter what he did," we probably should also say, "all those young, inexperienced guys would have struggled no matter what he did," too.
My assessment of Funk falls somewhere between TBD and disappointing, with a lean toward TBD. It'll be interesting to see what happens this year under Nussmeier.

I agree, but I don't think you're responding to my point above.
My point was that I'm not sure why (1) moving guys from raw to pretty good is about coaching if (2) moving guys from good to great isn't about coaching. That's possible, but it's definitely not obvious that it's true.
Your point is that a coach who's good at (1) might not be good at (2) and vice versa. I agree with that.

Apparently, what we needed last year was a coach who could take 3 athletes from 'went to high school prom 6-12 months ago' to 'servicable B1G interior lineman' in one season. Not too many coaches capable of that. The jury's still out on Funk and it will probably still be out after 2014. Competition should be stiffer this year with more 2013 recruits in the mix and we should be better as a result, but not elite. Still too young.

Lewan also said Funk was the best position coach he's ever had.
I believe the downfall of the OL last year was a mixo f inexperience and scheme. Did Borges call plays that ran inside zone type blocking? That's Funk's specialty, and that's what Nuss will be calling a lot of.

Great opportunity for position coach! Although surprised that another school would find their next OL coach from Michigan after last years performance. But it seems going between different position coaches is kind of the norm.

Awesome news and congratualtions to Mr. Stenavich! Hopefully he will be back on the sidelines at Michigan Stadium in the future.

The Lloyd Carr coaching tree extends another branch!
Or is it the Brady Hoke coaching tree?
February 6th, 2014 at 12:31 PM ^
Is it the RR coaching tree.
Sorry, I just had to.

First, we are bringing a new assistant who could have new ideas. Second, he is going to develop his own ideas and perhaps one day come back to UM along with Hart as RB coach, Charles as DB coach, Tom as QB coach and Woodley as LB coach. What not?

Are we referring to here? Tom Brady or Tom Harmon? I would have to vote Brady, hopefully Giselle will still be around and looking all hot. It could close the gap with ohio in recruiting

Of course.

Tom Brady is never going to be a QB coach here. He will go down as one of the best QBs in NFL history. The best QBs in NFL history don't go back to their schools to be a position coach when they retire.
February 6th, 2014 at 1:27 PM ^
Yeah you right.
Brady will either get a gig on the NFL channel or you'll find him lounging on the beaches of Cote d'Azur when he retires. Probably Cote d'Azur with his babe - while the kids are learning French back at the villa.

Pretty neat place, he'll enjoy it there. The Cardinals have their camp there. Good luck to him!

Yup. Too many hippies, but absolutely beautiful scenery and Flagstaff Brewing has some great beers, an amazing mushroom swiss burger, and some of the best poutine fries I've ever had.

Absolutely, though I have given up eating fries in this lifetime. It also is pretty nice that it is 30° cooler in the summer than down in the Valley

What position did David Baas play aagin?
February 6th, 2014 at 11:50 AM ^
except for those times he was playing
February 6th, 2014 at 11:51 AM ^
Guard...then switched to Center during his senior year.

He deserves some good opportunities after what he has been through with losing his little boy!

But I would give them to you sir. If I could.
