Submitted by Ace on

Michigan will be getting a big-time unofficial visit from a junior OL this weekend:

I'll look to get a reaction from Logan after this weekend. He already has taken visits for both the Nebraska and Ohio State games, and named Michigan his outright leader, so things are looking very good on that front right now.

Seems pretty early still for 2013.  When do you normally start seeing these kids decide?

I know Shane and Dymonte were early drops.

2012 class commitment dates, keep in mind Hoke spent all of January reconfirming commits and finishing his class for the 2011 year.

This year, the coaching staff only has to focus on 24 of their commits and mayyybe 10 candidates to round out the final spots before spending time with 2013 kids.

Name - Date

  1. Braden - 3/24
  2. Stacey - 3/26
  3. Ringer - 4/15
  4. RJS - 4/16
  5. Funchess (I keep forgetting about him!) - 4/22
  6. Bolden - 4/29
  7. Ross - 5/02
  8. Ojemudia - 5/07
  9. Godin - 5/12
  10. Richardson - 5/19
  11. Gant - 5/31
  12. Magnuson - 6/10
  13. Strobel - 6/10 (that was a good day)
  14. Clark - 6/24
  15. Bars - 6/26
  16. Wilson - 7/08
  17. Kalis - 7/10
  18. Houma - 7/25
  19. Wormley - 7/31
  20. Pipkins - 8/08
  21. Johnson - 11/08
  22. Darboh - 12/04
  23. Chesson - 12/21

So pretty much all throughout the year except slow during the season, which makes sense. Because of the aforementioned head start the coaches have on 2013, I wouldn't be surprised to see a few in February this year when the coaches can focus on those recruits.

We recruit 4 and 5 stars, o-line included.Wisconsin recruits 2 and 3 stars. They redshirt every o-lineman, fill them full of cheese, get them in a weight program and hope they are ready come junior year(for the majority).Let's compare our recruits to a better program than Wisconsin.

Our recruits having more stars means little.  They have had the best OL in the Big Ten and maybe the country for the last few years.  They had an OT who wasn't even a starter get drafted last year around the same spot our 5-star 4 year starter did.

If our OL looks like Wisconsin's 2010 OL in the next couple years, we're in very good shape.

2012:   Denman, Dodson, Voltz  4 stars

2008:  Konz  4 star

2007: Oglesby 5 star

This is amazing.   Over the past 5 years, only 2 of their OL were rated 4 or more stars by Rivals.   Oglesby as a 5 star was injured and underperformed.   2012's OL class for Wisconsin is a bumper crop compared to previous years, so the future looks bright in Madison given their track record of developing OL talent (although they will have a new OL coach).

Go to two straight Rose Bowls. Say what you want about Wisconsin's recruiting, but at this point I don't think you can argue that they have a good winning formula for their program. I'd sure like to see Michigan in back to back Rose Bowls, regardless of how good or bad our recruiting classes are. Ya, all their formula is is get linemen, that makes a lot of sense.

My point was Wisconsin is always known for outstanding OL year in and year out, including three OL drafted just last year. I never said anything about comparing the overall programs.

But I think his point is that Michigan doesn't have to recruit the way Wisconsin does. Wisconson brings guys in and has to beef them up. Most of them come in with lower-rankings, and are sleeper types. Wisconsin does an excellent job of finding "their" type of kids to fit in their system. The lineman we are getting now are not like the types that go to Wisconson, and in my opinon, a few years down the road, our line will be even scarier than Wisconsins. I see where you are trying to go with your Wisconsin reference, but they really don't compare to Michigan, in my opinon.
