ACE: Jordan Diamond Visiting This Weekend
I'm about to let the post-leftovers food coma fully kick in, but here's a little recruiting nugget before tomorrow's Friday Recruitin': According to his Twitter account, Chicago Simeon tackle Jordan Diamond is taking a visit to Michigan this weekend:
@Jordan76simeon Jordan DiamondHeading to Ann Arbor
This is a bit of a surprise, and a pleasant one. More coming tomorrow.

My exact thoughs as well..Would be nice to get him, but Ill take any of the top prospects that are on the radar as well.If we lose out on him, so be it.Good luck elsewhere.

Great! its about time he blipped back on our radar. He would close out the O-line class nicely.

hopefully he enjoys himself. Jordan, welcome to Michigan. We hope you enjoy your stay with us.

Well besides that he is projected to play tackle at the next level, and we still have a tackle spot available. To be honest, i wouldn't be upset about getting any one of our last recruits on the O line position. Ive always had a soft spot for Diamond though.

Its tough to say if we have another Tackle spot available or not, really. Blake Bars and Kyle Kalis are tweeners that could play both Tackle or Guard in college, and (in the eternal search to put the best 11 on the field) may be asked to move around. Braden will be a 4 star Tackle by the final ranking, Bars already is according to Rivals, and TE AJ Williams looks by just about everybody to be a Tackle as soon as he gains 25 pounds. Eric Magnuson is also our best Tackle prospect who looks first in line for either Tackle spot and those shouldn't be available for a few years still. We do have a developing need at Guard, though. Since our last OLine commitment (Kalis) we lost 2011 OG Tony Posada and future Center Christian Pace. Very soon our entire interior 2 deep of LG RG and C will all be gone as well. OG Chris Bryant and C Jack Miller (both RS Freshman) will be our only scholarship returning interior lineman after next year. By 2013 our starting lineup could be Braden-Bryant-Miller-Kalis-Magnuson with Bars projecting as a Tackle (mostly based on his skillset on the edge but also he said in an interview the coaches are recruiting him at Tackle) and Stacey looking like a Center now. I'm guessing one more Oline spot would be given to a top 5 interior prospect like Garnett or for another position all together.

Tweener

Don't know if Braden will get that 4 star. He is close, but once recruiting rankings have been set, it can be tough to change them. I think we all know/postulate that he should get it, but if he doesn't it isn't the end of the world since we know what kind of a prospect he is and the rankings won't matter when he mauls opposing D-line.
Couple things: in 2013, assuming Lewan stays, the line will be Lewan-Bryant-Miller-Kalis-Schofield. Do you have Braden at LT because Shane is a lefty? Otherwise, I thought Braden was more of a RT roadgrader. Also, I thought Bars projected just as much to the G position as T? I know the coaches said they were recruiting him as a LT (Shane as lefty) but I also thought they mentioned a possible move to G, where many recruiting analysts think he will end up due to his size. As is, I think the coaching staff would take either a T or G.
I think with Diamond and Garnett both visiting the same weekend, the coaches will try to get whoever seems more likely to commit. Currently it doesn't seem either has Michigan in front, so this weekend will probably factor into how the Oline recruiting finishes.

BEAT OHIO...I hate OHIO!!!!

I'd be okay not taking a TE, for Diamond or Garnett.
November 25th, 2011 at 2:08 AM ^
Off the top of my head I remember the coaches saying something about wanting another DB (or CB) in this class not too long ago which made me say to myself "Why former-silent-commit Wayne Morgan?!?! WHYYYYY?!?!?!" They've also offered another OL since Kalis and recently offered another WR. Looks like they want another 1DB 2WR 1OL and 1 other (Dunn) for this class. If we get in good with a receiving TE like Taylor McNamara or fences mend with Pharaoh Brown they might forgo 1WR or they might stay happy with the 2TEs we have if Williams stays a TE.
November 25th, 2011 at 8:48 AM ^
I doubt fences get mended with Pharoah Brown and while it's a shame, given the circumstances of the decommitment, probably for the best.
November 25th, 2011 at 10:08 AM ^
Wayne Morgan is the #27 cornerback to Rivals...and the #96 safety to Scout. He's not exactly an elite recruit, so I'm not sure why you would be bemoaning his loss.

I remember hearing Diamond struggled at camps against top competition this summer. Does anyone know any details about that?
November 25th, 2011 at 4:44 AM ^
I believe he was dealing with a lingering back injury. In the Army combine video, he noticeably tweaks his back in the drill where he gets bum rushed by Jaleel Johnson.

On the topic of visits: does anyone know if any of the Early Enrollees will travel to our bowl with us?
November 25th, 2011 at 8:06 AM ^
I seem to remember Kevin Grady traveling with team to Rose Bowl when he was an EE and practicing, so possibly
November 25th, 2011 at 8:08 AM ^
It is time that he goes Blue or ends it with us... Hopefully seeing us beat OHIO makes the difference.
November 25th, 2011 at 8:09 AM ^
if Diamond committed at this point. I think he and his family are very concerned about PT and this class is already loaded with OL's. Word is that AJ is a legit tackle and a potentially good one due to his athletiscm. Bringing on Diamond and/or Garnett in this class would be a unreal.
November 25th, 2011 at 2:20 PM ^
Between Magnuson, Kalis, and Diamond/Garnett, someone would have to slide over to guard, so it could still work out.
November 25th, 2011 at 8:12 AM ^
Beat Ohio.
November 25th, 2011 at 8:35 AM ^
have ever been acknowldeged by the fans with a chant from the student section, i.e. Jor-Dan Dia-Mond, clap-clap-clap-clap-clap-clap-clap; Brion-Te Dunn clap-clap-clap-clap-clap-clap-clap.
I remember one recruit being blown away that fans knew who he was when he visited.
Beat Ohio.
November 25th, 2011 at 9:19 AM ^
Well, see how that went.
November 25th, 2011 at 10:09 AM ^
But Mitch-Mc-Gary may remember it differently.
November 25th, 2011 at 9:30 AM ^
Not to put a damper on everyone's spirits, but has anyone considered that he might be coming up to watch Ohio State play just as much as Michigan? Isn't he strongly considering OSU as well? All he says is he's heading up to Ann Arbor.
November 25th, 2011 at 10:04 AM ^
If they switch to thr spread

CAN'T HEAR YOU!!!!!!!

and who is adept at breaking down film, I was wondering who looks like the better prospect, Diamond or Garnett. I know the scouting sites are higher on Garnett, but with both visiting, I am just looking for additional personal opinions about which one appears to have higher upside (Ace heres looking at you).
November 25th, 2011 at 10:24 AM ^
Garnett looks significantly better. He's a better overall athlete and he's more fundamentally sound. I would love to get Garnett; I'm lukewarm on Diamond.
November 25th, 2011 at 2:23 PM ^
Right?
November 26th, 2011 at 7:26 AM ^
He could play guard or center.
November 25th, 2011 at 11:18 AM ^
I've kind of let the Diamond ship sail. He still looks very solid though
November 25th, 2011 at 11:40 AM ^
that if AJ Williams plays OT that he is much closer to "college ready" than Jordan Diamond. He projected a red shirt for Diamond but that Williams would crack the 2 deep at OT as a frosh. Called Williams a road grader.
November 25th, 2011 at 11:41 AM ^
I've given up hope that we'll pull Diamond. Also, hearing that he's concerned about the other Oline studs in our class makes it sound like he's already let them take take a starting spot from him anyway.
November 25th, 2011 at 2:25 PM ^
For me as well...
I hope he's not afraid of a little competition.
November 26th, 2011 at 2:04 AM ^
I am wondering on who might move inside.
November 26th, 2011 at 8:46 AM ^
Kalis seems the most likely of the Tackle prospects. I think he'd have All-American potential at Guard.
