ACE: 2012 ESPN 150 Updated
ESPN just updated their 2012 top 150 rankings, and here's where both commits and uncommitted prospects of interest placed:
- OT Arik Armstead - #15 (uncommitted, longshot)
- OT Andrus Peat - #16 (uncommitted, longshot)
- S Shaq Thompson - #22 (uncommitted, Michigan not in top three but still has very outside shot)
- CB Yuri Wright - #40 (uncommitted, M has solid chance)
- OT Josh Garnett - #42 (uncommitted, will likely take official, but could be a tough pull)
- CB Terry Richardson - #67 (commit)
- WR Darius Powe - #86 (uncommitted, M has shot if WR spots don't fill up too quickly)
- OT Jordan Diamond - #103 (uncommitted, M still in decent shape, though late decision could take him off the table)
- OLB Royce Jenkins-Stone - #115 (commit)
- OT Zach Banner - #123 (uncommitted, M in good shape but with a lot of competition)
- OT Kyle Kalis - #135 (commit)
Kalis and Banner stick out to me as being ranked surprisingly low, though with Kalis this may be due to the fact that he projects higher as a guard than at tackle. As you can see, however, Michigan has a chance to round out this class with some really quality prospects.

- I know we've never mentioned him on here before really, but the #2 prospect, Eddie Goldman. I'm gonna follow his career from afar. He is going to be a freak. Maybe not quite the impact of a Clowney, but still a freak.
- Top Big Ten commit as of right now is Indiana(!!!!!)'s Gunner Kiel at #20.
- The #49 commit is named Randy Johnson, but he's about 17 feet shorter than Yes That Randy Johnson.
- Barry Sanders Jr. is #77
- No Bri'onte Dunn

If so, Pipkins being the #46 rated DT is criminal.

Don't think they're done yet. Pretty sure this was just an ESPN 150 update, and they'll redo the rest of the rankings soon.

to what I've read from TomVH (YTTVH), then you are correct and this is, so far, just the top 150 and nothing else.
October 20th, 2011 at 4:47 PM ^
What other TomVH is there?
October 20th, 2011 at 5:59 PM ^
just wanted to do the YT bit. K?

Wasn't Magnuson in their Top 150 before this update? Or has he been more highly ranked by Scout/Rivals?
October 20th, 2011 at 12:05 PM ^
Having Magnuson, Payton and Pipkins out of the top 150 is borderline criminal. It's no wonder people care less about ESPN than any other site.

How are our chances with Wright? I haven't seen anything on him posted in awhile. Is a decision coming anytime soon?
October 20th, 2011 at 12:09 PM ^
Last I heard he was announcing at the Army game, so we've got a bit.
October 20th, 2011 at 12:11 PM ^
Wright keeps mentioning M among his leaders, and he's planning to visit for the Ohio State game—if he comes through on those visit plans, I think the Wolverines have a very good shot at him. As far as I know, he hasn't set a concrete decision date yet, though he doesn't seem to be in a hurry (he initially planned on annoucing before the season, but obviously that didn't happen).
Check that, Wright did say to Sam Webb that he'd be deciding at the Army AA Game.

Was Yuri the recruit that said he was going to call the coaches on his decision in late November but was going to announce at the AA game?
October 20th, 2011 at 1:02 PM ^
O think that may have Banner

And who am I? A random guy on the internet, that's who!
Seriously, though, the fact that Ohio recruiting people (Bucknuts? I can't remember) have him so high make me think that he's being under-valued by the national services.
October 20th, 2011 at 12:51 PM ^
I don't think he's hit any camps or combines. From a reliable source, he's also a very humble kid. So I don't think you will see him campaigning to get into any all-american games either.
October 20th, 2011 at 12:20 PM ^
I figured I'd see James Ross on there.
The ESPN 150 always worries me, it seems that they're usually dead wrong, or dead on.
October 20th, 2011 at 12:31 PM ^
Richardson and RJS are the only MI players on the list. And only 4 from OH
There are 30 from FLA, 24 from TX, and 14 from CA (surprisingly low)
October 20th, 2011 at 12:54 PM ^
Well, ESPN has big fat deals with the ACC, SEC, and Texas. Add up the commits from that footprint.
From a business standpoint you can't blame them for catering to their best interests.
Why do you think Scout always has ND kids rated higher than anywhere else? And the Army AA game has a ton of ND kids and is on NBC?
October 20th, 2011 at 3:07 PM ^
Although there is good football throughout much of the country, Florida and Texas still have by far the deepest talent pools of any state period. I find it hard to blame recruiting analysts for this. Besides, both states are raided by teams from many conferences anyway, and top talent frequently slips out of the grasp of in-state flagships UF and UT, although the depth always ensures there are more worthy players eager for an offer.

Go with Dead Wrong. I'd put more stock into scout, rivals, 247sports, the ringer or any random dudes blog over espn.
October 20th, 2011 at 12:52 PM ^
That list is B.fcuking S. NO PIPKINS is a total joke. Someone better lay off the crack.
October 20th, 2011 at 12:53 PM ^
We just have to keep the faith that the UM coaches are getting the right kids. I love to see UM verbal recruits in this list just as much as anyone else. However, more often than not, the best players have intangibles that these rnakings don't measure.

Kalis is way, way too low.
October 20th, 2011 at 4:55 PM ^
ESPN sucks. Even Tom VH doesn't make that place all that better.
October 20th, 2011 at 5:59 PM ^
TAKE IT BACK
October 20th, 2011 at 7:19 PM ^
Wow they are really low on Kalis compared to Scout and Rivals.

So i got to see Dunn play live when Glen Oak played my high school Uniontown Lake. They are division 1 Lake is division 2, he didnt do much he had 21 carries for 82 yards and no touchdowns. Dunns team won with no time left after there qb threw a 34 yard td ( except he was 3 yards past the line of scrimmage) refs missed it but whatever they went to 7-0 and we fell to 2-5 ( all games are against d-1 schools we are a powerhouse in stark county ohio) 95 wins in the 90s second only to Mckinley who had 99 wins. But after the game he ran over to the opposing temas sideline grabbing his package are screaming some curse words at the fans. both teams had to be escorted off the field. living in ohio he has cooled with the fans around here wanting him at ohio, was just curious is this isolated offense or his he really think he is bigger than the team cause hoke doesnt need a person who acts like this after beating a division 2 team who just shut him down long of 8 yards rushing.

I don't worry too much about the rankings. It would be nice to have a bunch of guys ranked in the ESPN top 150, but so long as our recruits are rated high 3, solid 4 and up I believe our coaches will be able to turn them into very good college and potentially NFL players. Borges has a track record and Mattison has a track record on each side of the ball. And Brady Hoke will ensure we bring as much talent as possible from Ohio.
