I noticed that ESPN has begun reporting which players will be academically ineligible for many teams but Michigan has no reports yet. I know the coaching staff said they dont anticipate any problems but does anyone know when for sure they are released?
Academic Ineligibility Notice?
Anytime between now and January 1st.
The team leaves tomorrow so its possible for a player to make the trip and find out he cant play once already in florida? Thats sad, i hope noones family makes the trip then finds out their kid cant suit up.
I'd say the kid would be able to fairly predict their own grades.
I'm a current student and would easily be able to tell if I failed a class AKA failed everything prior to the final exam.
Because you have to do better than "not fail" to be eligible. And it's not one class, but the cumulative of all the classes. A little harder to pinpoint predict.
Regardless, releasing to public =/ releasing to student.
I have already received all my grades and my last exam was the 21st. They grade everything before the staff/gsi's go on break, most the same day they exam is taken. Just because we don't know who is ineligible doesn't mean they don't.
On the other hand, I still have 2 grades outstanding and my last exam was the 20th. A class in which I took an exam on the 13th has not posted the grades yet. I've had professors not post grades until January 1 or so. It's definitely feasible for someone to make the trip thinking they're good to go and find out later they're not.
The AD knows their grades already especially in a case like this. The rest of the students get to wait.
I teach college, not at a top 50 contender but an okay NCAA program.
I have to do student progress reports on team members every two weeks in season, and middle and end of semester for out of season.
I have never been pressured or even asked to speed up grading on athletes. Heck, the admin doesn't really pressure me for grades at all, other than requesting that they be in by the first if I can.
Grades are due 72 hours after the completion of th e final. Then it's up to wolverine access and the registrar to log and post them. Any hold up is likely in the registrar's office or b/c the scantron form was improperly filled out (most common issue is that Prof forgot to sign the grade sheet).
Hey we havent used scantrons in years. It's all Wolverine Access now.
Why does it take so long between the correction of the finals and the cumulative grade is posted? I'm assuming it goes through a few people, but still 6 days seems extreme.
OT but if you were also a 125/126 gsi in fall 08 and had a goatee then I definitely know you.
As of at least yesterday, they don't know if everybody is eligible or not. No bearing on if they've released it or not...can't release what they don't yet know.
No need to get sassy. I didn't realize you had some sort of inside information.
Just a friendly conversation.
But really not. Just poor in print/Internet emphasis translation. That, and as other posters have said, grades are a variable thing, and your experience, and mileage, may differ.
And problem, it's not unheard of for a player to get sent home from the trip.
As nothing has been officially disclosed, I'd rather not give specifics but Obi has not yet made it down to Florida. Apparently, he is still hoping for this to change but it doesn't look good. Though his on-field role has dimished, he is a senior and it would have been nice for him and his family to finish his career with a bowl game.
This time yesterday.
I can't tell you definitely, but if other schools are just starting to release ineligibility information, we will be about a week behind. Some finals at Michigan were as late as Dec 23, about a week later than other schools.
classes post there grades on their own time ... i had all my grades reporting on monday but remember there were certain classes that held their exams as late as wednesday so they should have there grades up late monday or tuesday
I still haven't gotten all my grades yet, so some players may be waiting to hear.
I graduated in April and still haven't had all my grades posted. boy, wouldn't that be a story to tell the kids, employer, friends, classmates, alumni association...
Seems like this stuff would be taken care of by now.
Unfortunately while I was at Michigan I was ruled academically ineligible (I know I'm a dumbazz) to participate in a season ending national championship event and the school was aware of it before I even was. The coach called me and let me know which turned out to be a complete surprise to me.
They obviously have ways to expedite receiving your grades rather than waiting for it to be posted to your official transript.
