AAUM Football Saturdays News

From the AAUM email:

The Alumni Association of the University of Michigan is excited to once again provide our members with the opportunity to purchase tickets to U-M's home football games (through our Football Saturdays in Ann Arbor program). We have 1,000 tickets to every 2012 home game and we want you to experience the thrill of seeing our guys in the winged helmet play in The Big House.

For your convenience, the 2012 Football Saturdays application process will now be completely electronic. Simply fill out and submit an on-line application anytime between April 17 and April 30, 2012.

Beginning May 1, we will randomly select applications (from all submitted) and offer those persons an option to purchase tickets to one home game.

For complete information about the 2012 Football Saturdays program, please visit www.umalumni.com/football/footballsaturdays.

This is a major improvement to the process, IME.

I disagree that this is an improvement. It used to be first-come, first-served, meaning that if you were savvy enough to get your packet in early in the day, you'd be rewarded with tickets to the game you preferred.

Now it's completely random where you land in the lottery and, as they say, there's no benefit to expending the effort to get tickets to the game you want.

I wrote an email to the AAUM on this specific subject.  First come, first serve was a completely unfair process.  It heavily favored the alumni that are located in and around Ann Arbor to the detriment of us out-of-staters, even those of us that shelled out $20 to FedEx applications for morning delivery on the first day.  The ND tickets went in the first few minutes last year because people started lining up before the office opened.  Just as I told the AAUM, there is no reason to favor locals when everyone is paying the same amounts for membership.

A lottery is the only fair way to treat all alumni evenly without bias/preference.

The first time I saw it was actually a Family Guy rendition of it, but searching for that I came across this version, which must be the original. I actually don't know where it's from, but thought it was appropriate.

EDIT: Judging by your avatar, I assume you're also in the camp that we need MOAR F-22s?
