I created this really informative post comparing Michigan/ Alabama 2011 scoring Offense and scoring Defense to show that the advantage leaned towards Mich/B1G. Then my computer forze up and i lost content, so instead ill just throw up the numbers in disgust.
Adjusted for decimals and worst team on schedule output. The opponents for both teams averaged giving up 35 Td's over the season. While the opponents scoring offense was 24 pts. per game for Alabama, and 27 pts. per game for Michigan. The OOC schedule leans even heavier in Wolverine favor. For Alabama the OOC scoring offense averages 20 pts. per game, For Michigan the OOC scoring offense averages 29 pts per game. The SEC superiority myth is just that a myth that is a function of their schedule, and on Saturday everyone is going to see that it is all just smoke and mirrors.

I think you're maybe missing a factoid here. Just a little one. The SEC has won 6 national championships in a row. Please neg me if I have this mistaken, but, I believe, that is where the "myth" comes from.
