AANews: Lewan Assault Case Gets Clearer

Submitted by Bando Calrissian on

The Ann Arbor News FOIA'd AAPD documents and security footage of the Taylor Lewan incident outside the Brown Jug after the Ohio State game. Read for yourself, but rather predictably, Taylor doesn't come off looking too great here.

Story here.

everybody walks.

and in my prior life i can tell you there are plenty of witnesses to homicides and other dandy acts of humanity where the witnesses don't ever say a word.  had a double execution in the middle of a crowded housing project - nobody would say a word and it was brutal and for all to see.

but it certainly isn't hard to read something into the comment that she's no longer with him because

She said the break up was due to Lewan’s “lying”

It sounds like a lot of very drunk people with different stories. I can't see this standing up in court.

We still don't know what was said to him before he punched him. according to the article there was a group of four Buckeyes and four Wolverines fans. I'm guessing they weren't singing kumbaya with each other. If you get hit after insulting each other then you get no sympathy from me.

While I won't ever feel very bad for adults that face neagtive consequences after saying idiotic things, that doesn't make what Lewan did ok. If Lewan acted violently, he should be punished. He needs to show more maturity than letting a few idiotic fans affect him in such a way to coerce a physical reaction from him. He should have just laughed the idiot fans off. They won't be the last he'll come in contact with, I'm sure.

"According to multiple witnesses, Munsch had been walking around with a megaphone on the night of Nov. 30 and Dec. 1."

Dude, walking around taunting people with a megaphone?  Taylor Lewan is a goddamn hero for punching that asshole in the face.  I take back all the mean things I said about him.

Seriously this guy with a mega phone is a total douche and was asking for this. Anyone running around totally tanked on an opposing campus with a heated rival with a MEGAPHONE taunting people in pain for a loss? I have no sympathy. Glad he was not permanently hurt but this Darwinism at it's best. What a tool. Taylor may have made a poor choice but in this chaos he could easily have been coming to his brothers aid and likely will be found not guilty for lack of evidence. Red Shirt. Cmon man wtf Taylor.

It's not "Ohio fans."

Come on, that's ridiculous. But someone purposefully taunting the home crowd in their town after they've been drinking to deal with the depression of the loss of such a heated rivalry game deserves to get their ass beat. Say what you will about Ohio fans, but less than 1% would stoop to that level.

Drunk OSU fan cruising Ann Arbor with a megaphone taunting michigan fans... wow. Sounds like he got what he deserved.

Lewan was a captain of our team and should've known to better restrain himself, but if some dipshit OSU fan is running his mouth around Ann Arbor, then I can honestly say that the guy got what he deserved.

I don't see how any of this is A) new and B) reflects badly on Lewan.

It's a he said she said thing whether he punched the guy or not, the police statements and surveillance footage are both inconclusive. It's clear he didn't start the fight and was coming to the aid of his brother (who probably comes off looking the wost out of anyone).

Also, a falling-down-drunk ohio fan with a megaphone taunting UM fans after a game? Let's just say I don't really feel too bad about him making a trip to the hospital.

True story...back in 86 I was in HS and we drove down to see Michigan beat Ohio at the Shoe.

My dumbass " friend " at the time *(who had the car because his dad owned a dealership) brought a bullhorn and pulled it out when we were on top of the parking garage facing the Shoe.  He started shouting all kinds of s--t...and Ohio fans were getting very angry.   I was actually a bit fearful for our lives...but it was funny ...

hey we were 16 years old and unsupervised.... on our first trip from home...

the Ohio fan that pulled this stunt in AA was 28.

Years later, (after I lost touch with the guy)  my former friend raped and murdered a kid and is now incarcerated in Jackson state prison.

Other people they were with also described a large amount of drinking. One of the men in the Munschs’ group fell in the moments before the altercation because he walked into a fence outside the Brown Jug on South University Avenue.

It shows how trashed they were. This is from 247 Sports report on the incident.

Marcus and Curtis were adamant they had not excessively consumed alcohol prior to the incident.

“I had to work (in Columbus) the next day at noon and I drove to the hospital less than two hours after (the alleged attack),” Marcus said.

Said Curtis: “We were going to get food and then go to our hotel because we were leaving at 8:30 in the morning when this whole thing happened."

They were planning on driving to Columbus soon for work. The police report contradicts a lot of what this report says. Link

Lewan shouldn't have done anything but he was trying to protect his brother and the guy was a total DB. He shouldn't have done it but it doesn't sound like Lewan's the bad guy who Phillip Nelson'd a poor innocent guy that the media and others have portrayed.
