AAG&O Tailgate - No afterglow

Submitted by lexus larry on

So I finally broke down and tried a golf course tailgate.  I have to admit, it was an awesome, and awe inspiring pre-game.  My 13 y/o son (now known as "Gameboy") got to play some PS3 NCAA 11, us adults shared Jello shots and other libations with the neighbors, and everyone had a great time.

Howeva, the post game was slightly traumatic.  Does the course always look like one of New Jersey's uglier landfills?  Does anyone stay to cook a little dinner, or does everyone wait in a half hour long line to hit the rowdy streets of AA for a 1 to 1-1/2 hour slog to the freeways?  I'd been under the impression that there were post game events galore, that the camaraderie and goodwill among tailgaters would continue into the two hour sunset after our fine victory.  Nuh-uh.  Did I take a wrong turn, or was that par for the course (pun intended, obvs)?

most of the lots are cleared out 90 minutes-2 hours after the game. I know the motorcycle cops come out to push everyone out.  Most people here leave as they can to pack the resturants.

I am guessing there were two factors at hand.  First the weather was chilly and windy which I am sure everyone had enough of from being outside all day.  Secondly with 3:30p starts I notice a lot more people tend to want to get home after the game instead of staying and tailgating.  It tends to be the opposite for noon games from what I remember.

As with every game, I always cook a post game meal at the tailgate. Fire back up the Satellite TV to catch whatever games are on and let the lines of ccars go away. No one every pushes me out, but then I am in the Blue Lot.

As a teenager and then in school at UM my family would tailgate at the AAG&O and we would do the same thing - but this was in the 80s / 90s. We were never pushed out. I think the colder weather was an issue perhaps, but typically some peeps stay.
