AA.com Co(r)nelius Jones Article
This article was posted on mlive.com and I was surprised to see no one has posted it yet. There is a video; I don't know if the video was posted here previously. Just because David Cutcliffe and his HS coach like him as a passer doesn't convince me but he looks like too good of an athlete to hold a clipboard for 4 or 5 years.

If QB doesn't work out, I'm sure they'll find somewhere for him to play.
I'm not sure, but didn't we figure out it was, in fact, Conelius without the R?

I thought so too but apparently Dave Birkett and whoever made the video didn't get that memo. Ira and Sam said they had it confirmed as Conelius. I guess we'll just have to get used to it until the media guide comes out.

Tom Beaver still refers to him as Cornelius FWIW.

He's wrong. It's Conelius. No "r".
January 18th, 2010 at 10:57 PM ^
is. We need another "Cone" now that the "Coner" is gone.

I'm glad there is no "r" in his name, because he would probably hate being nicknamed "Corny" and have to do some serious ass-kicking.

It was Cornelius until he saw the Notorious One's Toney Clemons video...then he changed it to "Cone"lius.

After watching his video I was very impressed with his release. It was very quick and was of a "traditional" variety, whereas many of the "athletic" quarterbacks struggle mightily for years trying to correct problems with low(side-arm) and slow release problems. I do not believe that the rest of his mechanics are superb but it is nice to know that he won't have to work to hard to fix his release.

That's accurate. He has a quick release and he's generally a pretty accurate passer. A wrote a couple of diaries about his games back during the season when I saw him play. He'll definitely be a contributer at Michigan; it's just a matter of where. I think he could be a pretty good quarterback down the road, but he needs work and time to develop, and his skills could be better used sooner and more effectively somewhere else on the field. That said, after seeing him a lot this year, this kid definitely can throw the ball a lot better than people would have you believe.

Thanks for the link.
I noticed that he had over -300yds in sacks this year. Imagine what he could have done rushing and passing with a better O-line.

This kid will see the field. My only question is if he can play D. If QB doesn't work out for him, I think he could be perfect at SAM, maybe FS.

Has there been any word on what position he is likely to play if QB doesn't work out?
January 18th, 2010 at 10:26 PM ^
DB or WR. I'd put money on safety. He's got the type of frame that you can really put a lot of bulk on.
January 18th, 2010 at 11:07 PM ^
Yeah, I think he is a bit stiff to play CB, but S or WR would probably work out. He is pretty similar in size to Jermaine Gonzalez if they wanted to go WR.

Backup QB is pretty damn important position I don't quite understand why everyone is so quick to move Jones. I fully expect Gardner to burn his redshirt this year even if he doesn't if he is as good as we want him to be I don't see him staying 5 years. It's going to be hard to bring in high end QB's the next couple of years with Tate and Devin in the fold. That leaves 2014 as the carrot for Jones to stay at QB.
If Jones and Gardner can come in and solidify the backup spots then Michigan can start to transition Robinson to a Slash/Percy Harvin role

I think I understand what you're saying but guys with his athleticism don't stay on the sidelines if they can grasp the offense or defense. If he works out at QB, great but I don't think he'll stay on the sidelines for 3 years before seeing the field; the coaches will find a way to get him on the field and get him the ball. I also think we will be in the hunt for the top dual-threat QB's each year regardless of who's here because they'll be told they'll have the opportunity to compete right away.

I always make fun of amateurs who watch youtube videos and offer opinions about a kid's skill set... but... dammit... Jones' throwing mechanics look way better than I expected.

what a problem to have....4 Quarterbacks. Let the games begin.
January 19th, 2010 at 9:42 AM ^
Its nice to have a qb prob and a good 1 not the bad type. Jones stays as back back up first year then moves around to see were he fits hes got a few chocies so thats a +.

"I'm a quarterback, but I wouldnt have any problem with not being (one)".
The kid just wants to play football at Michigan.
